Get fired ? Take the buyout and be without a job after the supposed severance expires ? We are in our 50’s and are too young to retire and too old to rehire . I have heart issues and need to have medical insurance to help with the cost of my medical treatment and my employer does not offer health benefits.
@TakenTook16 сағат бұрын
@ -- I have a job that's very much hands-on and in the office -- outpatient, with surgical components. But we had to start doing things remotely during part of the pandemic, because only truly urgent things were being seen in the office. I saw just as many patients per day with the telemedicine visits as I did hands-on in the building. The people who are answering phones for the federal departments can also process just as many phone calls from home. You're falling for a distraction. And if you think the wait times on hold right now for you or your elderly relatives trying to reach Social Security are exorbitant of the long now, wait until the remote workers decide they need to quit because they have to be in a certain physical location. You can't put some new kid who just got hired yesterday on the phones. It takes many months of training to learn how to handle those phone calls in those departments. Regardless. This is a calculated move to pressure experienced people into quitting or retiring because they want to replace them with other people who will destroy these departments from within. You might not currently depend on being able to get a hold of somebody at Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid . But a lot of my patients depend on that. Someday you might depend on Medicare also. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
@davidcerino114516 сағат бұрын
@@springbloom5940 what does that have to do with these buyouts? Just to be clear, the remote work and the buyouts are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS. The return to work part isn’t nearly as big of an issue as the buyouts. @davidcerino114515 сағат бұрын
Well, the “buyout” and the return to work policies are completely different. The bigger issue with this pseudo buyout is that if you don’t resign and you choose to remain, there is no guarantee they won’t fire you next month, and since you choose to remain instead of resigning, you only get a few weeks of pay. So it’s a double edge sword either way, since there is no confidence that the administration will pay until September if they do in fact resign. It’s a huge gamble for people that have remained loyal and worked in government for most of their lives.

This is not a buyout. Lazy reporting. This is a delayed departure for those choosing not to return to the office OR those who believe, for whatever reason, that they're going to be axed. They cannot just take the money and run. They will have to stay in the job and earn it until September 30th. It just provides another 8 months of earnings for those who believe they're going to get axed for some reason (telework/remote work/deletion of position). I'm a remote worker who is very close to retirement anyway (1 year). If I don't take it I risk being shown the door and pay stopped. Might as well get another 8 months of pay. Also, Federal workers who are terminated are usually eligible for severance (which doesn't equal another 8 months of pay). HOWEVER, if you would immediately be eligible for federal retirement upon termination OR are presently receiving military retirement you are NOT eligible for severance (god I hate the BS politicians put into law). I've been a full time remote worker for 13 years as all of my responsibilities are in the field and not in Washington. I've worked my butt off and tracked an insane amount months every year. In support of the mission. Yet suddenly I'm a slacker who is taking advantage of the taxpayer (of which I am one!!!). Fuck'm. Time to retire. But hold on to your hats folks. Why does it seem like there’s always a bad apple in the bunch? This latest return-to-work policy will undermine the success of all the other efficient policies that benefit the American people. Consistency is demanded of this administration, and when a policy directly conflicts with the rest of the agenda, humility requires a modified stance. The overall goal of government efficiency stands in stark contrast to the return-to-work mandate. Remote work saves hours spent in traffic, thousands of dollars in maintenance, repairs, and gas costs, reduces the number of traffic accidents, cuts down building and overhead expenses, and, perhaps most importantly, improves employees’ mental health. The argument that remote workers are unproductive is weak, at best. Regardless of what studies claim-and they go both ways-if an employee isn’t performing, they get fired. They aren’t handed a lucrative resignation package. No, this policy isn’t really about productivity. It’s about the economy. Auto shops, restaurants, office supply stores, hospitals, and commercial real estate investors are all losing money. And let’s not forget that our President is himself a commercial real estate investor. It’s hard to ignore the possibility that this policy is about manipulating the market to prop up a sector that hasn’t adapted to changing times. When technology and society evolve, the market must evolve to meet them. Clinging to outdated practices-like insisting everyone use a corded landline when we all have cellphones-is another example of a bad apple spoiling the bunch.

The amount of resources to put people back in offices is enormous.Stop, think about it. Musk wants it to increase automobile usage. The oil companies want it to boost their already record profits, and so on down the line.Just the traffic congestion alone, more deadly car accidents, road degradation... Many jobs do not require physical presence, this is 2025, not 1955. But I wholeheartedly agree about the rest of your comment. This is roughly the stage where Rome was at in 54 BC.

Work output can be easily measured and monitored. Microsoft makes a whole suite of remote worker monitoring software that can tell exactly what you are doing all day. Goverment telework jobs are 100% computer based. Congress is lying. They do nothing all day and need a scape goat…
@internetonsetadd22 сағат бұрын
Telework (some days in the office, some at home) for the civil service started about a decade before the pandemic, because many agencies are out of space, both office and parking. Over the years Congress has expanded the mandate and authority of agencies without allocating funds for new headquarters, because there's a massive cost to doing so. Full RTO means everyone shows up and has nowhere to work or park. Imagine you share an office or cubicle with several people on a staggered schedule. Now you're all in one spot without enough workstations. It straight up doesn't work. But the people behind the push for RTO don't really care. They've been clear that they have nothing but contempt for feds and the work these agencies do, so they're trying to create a catastrophe.

man pay attention, dude is draining the swamp. the fed money was being spent on congress themselves. they gave themselves a 40 percent raise with that last spending bill. trump tried to stop it just now from taking affect. they are spending money on lies but shipping it to overseas accounts as funds for other countries. those countries dont need extra, but our gov had to spend the access or get caught. he has now stopped them from spending the wasted money and show where its going. i thought he was lying until i saw ron desantis try and ask for 350 million dollars for local sheriff to help with immigrant deportation. he was only getting 9 million previously. trump had made an announcement that it was costing somewhere around 86 billion for a portion of this deportation thing. florida legislatures caught him and decided to name someone else in charge of the money and he got embarrassed so he had to pretend hes backing trump. he got caught putting his hand in the corrupt cookie jar. its some real dirty people crying out like hit dogs. trumps actually the good guy for once.

Do you know how many people in the government don't show up for work. This is why you hardly see anybody in their seats at the capital. There should be a percentage of the time they have to be there.

Apparently we don’t know. She said according to WH Administration only 6% of workers show up to the office? That could not be true by any reasonable measure. You know this number is wrong. Someone is lying

Shouldn't matter. They should be there.

@@KarenHughes-i7u you missed the point. You sound like you think Trump firing people is right because they're not showing up for work, but the empty seats in the Capitol are not the people Trump is firing. Those empty seats are for the representatives voted into office.

When the teenager owns the playground and all the buildings his teamates live in and doesnt taje his entrance exams and can easily grab his lady friends hy the P word and fiies bankrupcy 100 times and gets the loan while over pricing his estate then becomes President. @@TheEdwardNigmaShow I was wondering if they were counting US military as federal employees. Also, I'm almost certain the number of US active duty military is closer to 1.1 million...445k Army, 337k Navy, 172k Marines, and 320k USAF. The national guard members are controlled by the individual states, not the federal government. And reservist, who aren't paid like active duty, are basically bank tellers, cashier's, and lawyers with weapons...which can describe just about any Republican citizen in the US, so if you're including them, it'd be closer to 80 million.
