I don't care HOW patriotic you think you are or HOW much you try to convince people of it, every US citizen has the right to show their dissatisfaction of their country peacefully whenever and wherever they want. Freedom of speech extends beyond just literal speech, and that was proven during a court case during the Vietnam War. Any who try to attack or disparage you for doing so are infringing on your legal right to protest, and are in opposition of your legal right to protest. Ergo, they are in opposition of the law. Trump and his ilk are a serious disgrace to everything our nation stands for.

I will respectfully disagree. Americans should have respect for our nation. The flag is only a visual representation of the values that Americans should uphold. I can concede that our current president has weaponized patriotism but that doesn’t mean that a modicum of pride in your homeland should be considered wrong. My nation has a lot of good ideas and innovations that we should be proud of.i do believe that we as a people should respect a persons’ right to protest. It’s important that people with power be it through athletics or politics voice a stance of various injustices. That is where our pride comes from from the vast majority of Americans. As an American of African descent I know I’m in a precarious position and have people stand up for me is important. But I do not believe I have to give up my national pride because I’ve earned it as much as anyone else. I say all this to say we aren’t perfect here in the states but if we give up on our national pride and actively encouraging the things we have in common with our countryman we will tear ourselves apart and you can see it happening if we allow ass hats to monopolize our earned rights.
