This change requires a constitutional amendment. One party or the other will oppose such a move because it would put them at a disadvantage as compared to the status quo. The last time a Republican won the popular vote was in 2004 so we know which party would be against such a move.

IE- If a state is worth 20 ev....and within that state there are20 counties- 11 counties went red and 9 went blue, then the electoral votes should be accounted for accordingly, as in 9 ev blue and 10 evred....but currently those 9 counties are just disinfranchised and the whole state is counted as 20 EV for (in this case) red...and same holds true for half the country. I also think we should have rank voting so people can vote third party withoutr giving away their vote.

It would be nice but let me tell you this fact. The EC is NEVER going away. In order to get rid of it you have to have a Constitutional Amendment in which 3/4 of all state legislatures must vote for. That means 38 states. There are at least 18 states that benefit from the EC and would be voting against their own interest to do away with it. You are never going to get 38 states to vote for it. The end of the Electoral College process must be addressed. Despite 2 Democratic dominated popular votes, 2016 Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by 3.5 Millions of Americans votes, but lost the election because less populated states and I mean low populations had Trump winning the Electoral vote. So the person that voting Americans wanted as President and proved it lost the election. Now in 2020 election the American people's vote was in excess of 8 million votes over Trump in favor of President Biden. However the Electoral college vote, President Biden also one. However the margins were extremely close. So what has evolved it is not about the Popular Vote, it's about the archaic Electoral college vote! The Popular Vote will show up for V.P. Harris by a large margin again, but the battle is for the majority Electoral college vote. While the Electoral college has always been the spoiler, it is time to drop the 1700's system once and for all. You loose that popular vote it's "Katy bar the Door." The Electoral process was put inplace because the population amongst several states were Minute in comparison to the more populated NE states or the 13 colonies. The Republicans are always running on an near empty tank as they push to be competitive using the Electoral college vote to facilitate backing into office. Now, our 248 year old "Democracy," hangs in the balance because of an antiquated system.
