I'm glad you mentioned that the president of South Korea was convicted of corruption charges. I was just watching a video about the MV Sewol disaster, and how her mismanagement contributed to the loss of over 300 people, most of whom were schoolkids, from a disaster they should have otherwise survived. If we're comparing 1-1 scandals, if we held Trump to the same standard he would be in prison now too, for his gross mismanagement of COVID and the way it massively inflated the death toll here (and arguably in other countries, because his bullshit set a precedent for those other countries to follow). In both cases, doing the right thing was arguably the easier course of action, but in both cases the leaders involved were constitutionally incapable of doing anything but lie and cover up and attack political opponents and critics who voiced their issues with said leaders. Trump should be in prison several times over by now, and hopefully these charges from the NYC DA are only the beginning, the opening of the floodgates. We need to reestablish rule of law in this country, to discourage all of the assholes who are trying to follow Trump's example to grift the nation and seize power through corruption, cheating and graft.

How exactly was Trump constitutionally bound to botching the COVID response? I have never heard any evidence of that. Furthermore, what do you mean by "Trump should be in prison several times over now"? Are you saying that he deserves to be in prison? Well no he deserves to go to Hell, in fact the psychopath ought to have been put to death before he could have ever become president. But what laws did he break? Most of what he did that was unethical wasn't illegal, at least I don't think it was. Ultimately, if the courts do rule that it was all illegal, won't that exactly cause the kind of powerless-ness you described where presidents will be legally bound to "making decisions" even if they are obviously wrong? Where no one has the authority to overrule what is obviously wrong? You can't baby-proof the role of the presidency, or at least by the time you do, you have either A. automated it with an advanced A.I. unlike anything this world has ever seen, or more likely B. wound up with a huge mess of contradictory rules where the president is able to do both everything and nothing at the same time. At the end of the day, Trump tried to subvert the transfer of power, and gave orders that would effectively overthrow Biden to remain in office. He then gave comfort and support to the insurrectionists who violently attempted to realize his wish. That's sedition and should take precedence over any powers the president may have. However, if the courts instead must put him away for the rest of his life over a campaign finance violation, (which again has nothing to do with the fact it was a Porn star, infidelity, or dishonesty; only that this unusual payment was technically done for his campaign and wasn't logged) then what about the when a candidate forgets to record air-fair for a trip to a debate, or gas money?

The thing that nobody is mentioning is that this is an indictment handed down by a grand jury. It's not like DJT was arrested on the street and thrown in jail. A jury of his peers looked at all the evidence and decided that there was enough there to go forward with the indictment. Even if the investigation was politically motivated, it wasn't the act of a lone prosecutor with a political vendetta or whatever DJT supporters would have us believe, it was the act of 16 people, residents of Manhattan.

I'm sick of hearing how unprecedented indicting a former president is. What's unprecedented is the amount of crimes that POS has committed and has NEVER been held accountable. It's about damn time.👍⚖️
@jimtokheim1422 Жыл бұрын
Agreed! Why did it take decades of the Tramp family businesses defrauding the IRS and the City/State of New York before they were charged? If they got away with it for that long, you know there are much smarter people pulling the same crap and getting away with it.

Imagine that. Something that up until this point has never been true. This is not a dark day for America. This is not something to hang our heads about.
