25 years ago DEI was called "Affirmative Action" and was mandated by the government through the EEOC. I was manager of an engineering department at a small manufacturer. We needed to hire another engineer. I interviewed about 20 people and picked the best one. However my boss made me hire a different person because it would fulfill our EEOC requirements. So the guy who was more qualified got totally discriminated against. And the person we hired purely for their skin color was a terrible engineer so the rest of my department had to carry his weight. Overall the whole thing was a detriment to the company because the guy was collecting a salary for basically making mistakes and causing other people to have to fix those mistakes and check his work constantly. Now multiply that one little scenario millions of times over the past 25 years across the country.

In a recent discussion a friend was looking for a good definition, and turned to me with the questions "What counts as woke and why is it bad?". After pondering, I constructed the following answers. I don't think it's perfect yet, but it's close to the perfect answer. Woke: Belief system composed of multiple parts: a) advocating diversity over quality/capability b) relentless protection of an individual's feelings, even if it requires suppressing facts c) strong dislike for any conservative or traditional ideas justified strictly by emotion with no regard to facts. d) a push to achieve equal outcomes for all parties, regardless of work effort. And it's bad because a) skilled employees will be eliminated, and their jobs handed to unqualified "diversity hires". b) suppressing the truth actively damages society, and not all feelings are valid or justified. c) Just because an idea is traditional or conservative doesn't mean it's bad and must be destroyed. d) Life isn't fair, no two humans are equal, and everyone has different aptitudes. Pretending that life should be fair creates unrealistic expectations and spoils people.

23:08 let me give another example: murder rates are measured by /100,000 inhabitants; Anything above than 10 per year is considered high. This means people had a 0.01% chance of being murdered that year is high. The US has 6.38 murders per 100,000. Which is not bad on the big scheme of things(by that I mean considering developing countries), but bad for a developed country. So a 0.0064% chance of murder on a year is bad for a developed country. 0.0064% a year and people are worried about it. Also, sometimes it's better to worry before it becomes a problem and avert it than to worry *after* it becomes a problem. Sharks don't kill a lot of people, we won't wait till they do to keep a... *respectful* distance from them.
@Kr4v3rdСағат бұрын

Asmon is onto something with regard to the Fentanyl or cancelling topic. Because the reality is you don't need to actually experience the real deal thing. Had a friend go in to a jury trial for a murder that had everyone in the house was on fentanyl. Guy had waited inside his kitchen and called a girl who owed him 20 dollars and beat her with a bat. Then when the boyfriend heard the screams outside and as he was walking in, the guy pulled out a gun and shot him. This guy used to be a well educated lawyer and this shit melted his mind, the people in the house all described fentanyl effects as being there, but not actually being there. This stuff was being delivered to him, by I kid you not, some chinese site he knew about that delivers it to your house.
@MadDog_Rules12 сағат бұрын
There were roughly 100K fentanyl overdoes in the US in 2023. But that isn't even close to the number of people affected by fentanyl. There was 27,000 lbs of fentanyl confiscated at the border, which means at least 10 times more got through. You have the murders and crime caused by fentanyl, then you have the close call overdoses of fentanyl. Then you have the thousands of families affected by those on fentanyl. Asmon doesn't understand the devastation of it, because he isn't that world or he hasn't seen the affects first hand. From all drug overdoses, 70% of these overdoses are caused by fentanyl. That's huge and these numbers will keep rising until something is done about it. Asmon needs to go visit Baltimore to get a full understanding of what this drug has done.

I had a 3.8 GPA, excellent testing scores. *this was before map testing* I had Perfect Attendance and was voted but lost out on Valedictorian due to one other's GPA being incredible. Instead of receiving a full ride scholarship that I had worked hard for over the course of my entire school career, it was given to my friend. A black female, who had 8/9 LD classes. The only class we shared was Cosmetology. She also failed the State Board cosmetology testing, out of a class of 21. I wasn't even granted a partial scholarship as given the area and state we live in it would have seemed "racially charged" for me to receive any assistance with my education or housing. Granted, this was many years ago, however I do currently have a child in our education system, and have to hear daily how children who resemble him are overlooked, not only by their educators but by their peers. Being Caucasian even Italian Caucasian (as we are), has been seen as a sin for some time. Therefore I, a BORN female who BORE a human male, voted for Trump. I'm proud of this fact.

Overdoses almost ALWAYS involve comingling substances. Fent by itself has probably never killed anyone, or very few. Most people are high, drunk, or both when ODing on fent (check the stats; as a medical advocate, I have). It, as you said, is an irrational fear, perpetuated by the people, and especially by agencies making money on enforcing failed drug policy. Ask any chronic pain patient, they are intimately familiar with how fear has dictated their reality, forcing them to live in nightmare pain while addicts are asked to come into facilities to get their "safe" fix. People are morons, point blank.

The problem with f-drug is it's not about the fear of being injected, nor deaths rate (which still is important), it's about it's potential low dose lethality and how easy it is to be exposed to it by merely being in proximity without knowing it. Next thing you know you are on the ground and you can't breathe and you are barely conscious and have no idea why, and it was because some drug dealer accidently spilled some of it somewhere on the ground and you accidently and unknowingly breathed some of it in. F-drug can easily be used as a terroristic chemical weapon. We don't want it in our country at all.

19:50 This is a bad frame of reference. 3.3 million people die in the US every year. 220k of these deaths are accidental deaths. Overdose deaths are considered accidental deaths. This includes car accidents, falls, and poisonings. If 74k people die from fentanyl overdose every year, then fentanyl causes roughly a third of all accidental deaths in the US every year. This is even worse when you bring the frame down to specific states--where the drug problem is a lot worse than in others.

Many schools advertise equality, example: 85% minimum score to apply for X program. However, behind the scenes they have quotas, and sure 85% is the cut off for everyone... unless they fail to meet their quota for a race or gender, then lower standards can get in. Thanks to the push for women in STEM, for the past 15 years or so, if you are a man applying to engineering, 85% minimum was a joke.. because if 5,000 other guys applied to a program with only 500 seats, and 200 of those seats were for men.. you actually probably needed 95-100% grades to get chosen. Then for women there were 200 seats, and if only 900 women applied, you probably needed 85-90% to get in. Then for the remaining 100 seats if they were for visible minorities, and only 90 people applied... everyone got in, you didn't even need to meet the minimum standard. You can walk and chew bubble gum? you're in. In a meritocracy all 500 seats should have been given out to whoever scored highest. And if 5990 people applied, the top 500 should be chosen. And if that meant 480 guys with the top academic scores got in, so be it. That is how meritocracy works.

I would bet huge money on that woman, that apply to STEM are on average smarter and have better grades then male students. Yeah, if you're looking purely at accidental overdoses at a concert, yeah not that many happening nationwide. When you look at all narcan uses, however, it goes much higher. Particularly based off of geography. For instance, where I live in Eugene, Oregon, leftism has everybody so depressed that they're using fentanyl and other drugs as quickly as they can be shipped here. Narcan is used every single day here. Maybe this isn't a problem where Asmon lives, but it is here.
