Which is true. But what isn't true is that women could spend the house wealth without consupting the master/man of the house. They couldn't hold many position of power or offices without oversight. They also could do very little to fight these issues besides black or blue ball their spouse for a say in matters. Which many men did and didn't consider since the times were different. But my point still being, they stated men as an encompassing statement of MAN meaning all people are created equal. Women were part of this but still held the similar societal position just under a new governing body that would allow people to act instead of follow the kings edict. They also benefitted from the tax cuts and independence just as all men within the colonies.
