Framing threats to capitalism as greater than threats to democracy in any context is hella insane. It fits the billionaire character perfectly, but it's still insane.
@squiddler77316 сағат бұрын
For corporations and billionaires it's par for the course. Short sighted gains at all costs no matter how blatently obvious it is those costs will bite you in the ass, because as a rich CEO you can only ever fail upwards.
@Blaze61082 сағат бұрын
It’s a nigh-mainstream view among neoliberals and right-libertarians that capitalism always comes before democracy and can be imposed by dictatorship if necessary, so this isn’t surprising, unfortunately. Peter Thiel infamously said that he sees ‘liberty’ as incompatible with democracy.

@@achaean7615 Why wouldn't she? She's a capitalist, and a significantly more competent one than Trump is. You assume the choice is between fascism and socialism, when the choice is between fascism and liberal capitalism. Otherwise I don't see why you'd point out that Harris is backed by rich people. That's to be expected unless you think she's a secret communist. What's worth pointing out is that the business class still chooses to support Trump disproportionately even when there's a perfectly viable choice on the liberal side, which will advance their interests as well; that there are so many capitalists willing to immediately throw democracy and liberalism out the window even in the absence of any leftist threat or movement.

This perplexes me a bit. They have to know about the deportation thing. They have to know about the whole surplus labor army concept and neoliberal outsourcing to disempower labor. So the only way they could be on board with Trump's deportation of millions is if they think it's bull shit or if they think Trump's border will be porous and highly exploitable people will pour in by the million in spite of it. I was right. Trump wouldn't go as hard on the border as he claimed.

You're not thinking with your evil hat on. Here, I'll help. These people are well aware that migrants, that is, cheap labor, are a major backbone of their industries. But what is better than cheap? Free. So, you round up a bunch of migrants, immigrants, whatever. The pretext of course being "CRIME!" But, oh no! There are just so many! We can't feasibly deport them all! ... Weeeeell... since they're just hanging around in "detainment camps" anyway. We may as well put them to work. And boom, slavery is no longer de facto but de jure in the US again.

Had a few thoughts on this one. First, I used to work at a non-union grocery chain, and every time unions were mentioned, I was told horror stories about how bad unions were, mostly because the family that owned the chain were brought to court by the UFCW, which nearly bankrupted them. Second, notice how often they bring up "property value," in reference to buying a second property... as if the bulk of the working class owns their first piece of property. Third, my state has a ballot measure framed to help food workers and restaurants. What that measure will do is allow restaurants to cut employee pay by 25% if they're making minimum hourly wage +$2 on tips... this came to mind from how the one a-hole was talking about the "strain on restaurants."
