I think they don't like him because he doesn't seem to understand aspects of US empire. His understanding of it is superficial and stupid, as in, "we didn't get any oil out of Iraq, why the hell did we go to war with them for?", and he removed troops from Germany, which is an important point from which to project US imperial power and from which to occupy Germany, but he saw it as an unnecessary cost. He doesnt get the overall picture of how US empire maintains and expands. He thinks the world has taken advantage of the US lol that everyone has been getting a "free ride" in terms of defense,.though maybe he's smart enough to realize that getting people to actually spend 2% of GDP on NATO commitments will force all kinds of US weapons sales as per NATO articles requiring "interoperability", etc. I think that's why the other elites hate him, or at least why a dominant faction within the ruling class hates him. Though I think that will change and more will side with him as time goes on.
