One thing the Bible gets right is that no man or woman is without sin. We are all corrupt, it's human nature. He said to peacefully make your voices heard - where is the inciting part?
@JanPBtest3 жыл бұрын
@@bjappleby1 So now "charging up" (whatever that means) is a criminal offence? Imagine for a moment it was Martin Luther King asking people to peacefully assemble - oh wait, this DID happen, and not only he asked to assemble, he asked them to _march_ to Washington. Hmm, what if it was Obama or Biden who asked to _peacefully_ make your voices heard? And let's say there were some criminal elements involved in the resulting gathering (as there frequently are?) I can just picture CNN getting all over themselves accusing Obama or Biden for "sedition" if this took place - no? And why not? I'm leaving aside the recently found details about the Capitol attack, like that it was in planning for a while, before Trump said anything. And it was organized using Facebook and Twitter, both of which, curiously, are still allowed to operate (imagine that!) while their competitor called Parler got banned for some mysterious reason. See, this is the sort of thing, the sort of bad faith, that turns people off to Democrats today. Instead, what they should have done in January 2017, was to say: "we disagree with Trump on this or that but we're going to work together on things that _can help Americans"._ This is in fact exactly what Bernie Sanders said: I'll work with him if the cause is right (words to that effect) but he immediately was told by the DNC to shut up, so he never said that again. And if Democrats helped Trump, instead of attempting a coup d'etat, we'd already have universal health care now (Trump privately thinks the single-payer system is best for America, this is according to Larry King who has known Trump for decades). No politician is perfect, the bottom line is that what Democrats started in 2016 in order to avoid whatever dangers they perceived in Trump was and is _infinitely worse_ than any danger represented by Trump himself. That's the problem. The rest is just squabbling.
@halestorm_013 жыл бұрын
@@JanPBtest albeit, you are correct this sort of thing happened in the past. However consider if you will, Martin Luther King was fighting for the rights of the colored, something that at the time did not exist. What was Trump fighting for, false claims of a rigged election with no discernable evidence that he was in fact cheated. It was proven many times there was no foul play in the election, yet Trump continued to push against the votes because he wanted to win. It isn't fair to compare the two. King wanted unity among men, Trump wanted men and women of different race, color, and status turned against one another. That is seen with the wall he was building. Lastly and this is purely for me, I love the inauguration ceremony. The idea of one handing the torch onto another and saying to the "make me proud, my successor". Trump couldn't even honorably do that, the way Obama did for him in 2016. I truly believe there was nothing "unjust" about the election results and Trump took things way too far in his fight to overthrow the election
@JanPBtest3 жыл бұрын
@@halestorm_01 We cannot accuse people simply based on the _intent_ we presume they had. Supreme Court ruled unanimously in a very similar case in 1982 (NAACP v. Clairborne Hardware Co.). NAACP activists were making public speeches asking to boycott white businesses. This resulted in (as it frequently does, sadly and unintentionally) in some of those businesses being attacked (looted). One of those businesses tried to sue NAACP for inciting violence and the Supreme Court said no, this is not how "inciting" works. There was another case (the details escape me, too lazy to search right now) in which Supreme Court defined more precisely what "incitement" is, legally: it would have to be an immediate, direct, danger. Meaning, Trump literally standing in front of the crowd near the Capitol building yelling "Chaaaarge!" or something of that sort. My conclusion is that all that stuff will come to nothing, because of the established legal precedents. It's all just bare-knuckled power struggle. Weird to see this sort of thing right there in the open.

you're only hearing what you want to hear. Trump incited violence implicitly: "we will never give up, we will never concede. "we have come to demand that congress do the right thing!" "everyone here will soon be marching over to the capitol building (to peacefully) and patriotically make your voices heard" "our country has been under siege for a long time" mentioning the word "peacefully" once to a crowd that you just riled up with violent terminology does not mean you didn't encourage the violence. He then later says they're patriots after the riot, and only days later finally condemns the actions.
@JanPBtest3 жыл бұрын
@@theresalwaysanotherway3996 My point is that none of this will hold up in court (unless the Supreme Court reverses its _two_ rulings on the matter). Also, the "shoe on the other foot" remains: if it was Obama or Hillary Clinton or Biden saying the same thing, we would not have this conversation. Just like Hunter Biden's hard drive: the issue simply won't exist in the media (because this is a _media-manufactured_ issue done at the request of certain power centers who feel very threatened by any sort of outsider figure, be it Sanders or Trump; look at the media reaction to the recent Wall Street GME debacle - same thing).

Apparently, even if you say "peacefully and patriotically" you're still responsible for the behavior of a few crazy extremists. I find this all very disturbing. Had Capital police done their jobs and secured the location, it would have just been another rally. Instead, the "cause" of the criminal behavior is now apparently Trump's fault. So long to the America we once knew. Trump incited protest and patriotic rebellion, not violence.

@TheThebigice3 жыл бұрын
It's really simple. If I for example rally a group that hates you, and then say lets all march over to your house, but everyone be peaceful and no one hurt her I'm still incited a riot at your house if people act crazy. The law cares about the effect just like the intent. Neither crime requires you to directly tell people to commit violent acts, or criminal acts. Just saying something that if were not said riot would not occur. incitement= to riot is when a person encourages others to commit a breach of the peace without necessarily acting themselves. This may involve statements, signs, or conduct intended to lead others to riot. Conspiracy= to riot involves planning acts that, if undertaken, would result in a breach of the peace. However, conspiracy convictions usually require the defendant to have undertaken an overt act in furtherance of their plan. Trump was not smart enough to know this would happen if he did this, despite being told about it since who knows how long. (which is what I think happened) Or he did it on purpose.

One thing's for sure, we need to revamp our electoral process. The American people are entitled to elections that are 1. Secure, 2. Transparent, and 3. Accountable. I think we have a lot of room for improvement. I don't necessarily agree with the Republicans, but definitely think they have a right to their opinion and to voice it publicly. I think a lot of people, organizations, corporations and billionaires have had their fingers on the scales at every step of our political process, for decades, and it's one of the big reasons our country is in the place it is now. We need to clean house, clean up our processes, but we need free thought and free speech to get to the bottom of things. It shouldn't be forbidden for people to contest an election, through the courts, or through protesting -- but I think you need evidence. We need an electoral system that produces evidence. We need to get rid of these proprietary software programs that nobody can look into -- they're not transparent, and they're not accountable. I understand the Trump campaign exhausted all recourse through the courts, so that should be it -- the election is over. However, I totally understand and respect their right to disagree with the rulings of the courts, as long as they do so civilly.

@@timsgta I'm not a fan of the Electoral College. In my opinion, what they say they do, and what they actually do are two very different things, Based on what they've done the past 20+ years, I'm not convinced they're very "sophisticated", or even "well educated", much less good faith actors with a fiduciary responsibility to the MAJORITY of People of this country. @@therandomrobert1842 Yes, behind the scenes. Did Trump call Republican election officials in public? We only know that Trump called Brent Raffensberger and pressured him to “find” him more votes because the call was recorded and Raffensberger released it. And then Trump tried to organize a slate of fake electoral college voters to give his vice president a fake vote. Did Trump publicize that? But you’re right, Trump was very public about trying to pressure his vice president to throw out the real vote and just declare him the winner. That is a good point. If Trump wants to expose widespread fraud, that’s fine. Let’s see the evidence. Where is it?

He literally said peacefully. Can someone tell me how this speech incited a riot
@theresalwaysanotherway39963 жыл бұрын
you're only hearing what you want to hear. Trump incited violence implicitly: "we will never give up, we will never concede. It doesn't happen, you don't do it when there's theft involved" "our countries had enough, we will not take it any more!" "we will stop the steal!" "we have come to demand that congress do the right thing!" "everyone here will soon be marching over to the capitol building (to peacefully) and patriotically make your voices heard" "our country has been under siege for a long time" mentioning the word "peacefully" once to a crowd that you just riled up with violent terminology does not mean you didn't encourage the violence. He then later says they're patriots after the riot, and only days later finally condemns the actions.
