As a European citizen I am always horrified learning about the US health system. Almost everybody (and in principle everybody) in Europe is entitiled to health care. It is not for free but individual contribution requiremets are adjusted to your individual income. If you are without income, the state helps you in almost every case. All European constitutions state in various ways that human life is one of the highest values to be protected by the state. So, it is not a "communist idea"....

@@shirleyfreeders I'm sure you did, but as I understand it the problem with it today is that what older generations put into was not banked it was squandered, so in effect there is no money there, except what the current working population pays into it. So now we have a shrinking youth population that is paying for it, combine that with a growing retiring population going on SS and there is a fundamental problem, it won't be able to sustain itself. I believe the estimate is that we will no longer be able to pay SS in a few years because what is being put into will not be enough to cover all of the people on it. So essentially what we need is a huge baby boom. No doubt someone will correct me if I'm wrong about that forecast.

I know a woman with two babies, she's working and still can barely afford food. her benefits food stamps went from $500/ month to $330 but she won't actually get that money this month because DCF has sent her a letter saying she needs to contact them for her re-certification interview YET THEY HAVEN'T PICKED UP THE PHONE ANY OF THE TIMES SHES CALLED THEM FOR THE PAST TWO WEEKS! I also know a 21 year old mom of a toddler who makes about 2,000 a month and she also got her child's medicaid taken away because SHE MADE TOO MUCH MONEY! they now reduced her food Stamps from $200/ month to $30/ month!!! Florida DCF picks up no phones, provides no other ways to contact them they just don't give a F about parents struggling to feed their kids anymore.

Before I got social security I was literally homeless. Now I have a roof over my head and enough to eat. Hot water and a toilet are a blessing! Do I get enough? Yes. Am I rich? Not by a long shot. Am I scamming the system? No. I worked since I was 12 years old, I paid my dues. I am entitled to a comfortable old age. This country has a social safety net. Is it perfect? No. But it beats the heck out of the situation in Russia. They do get pension benefits, about $100 per month. Not enough to survive on. They have to grow food and chop firewood and one in five don't even have a toilet, much less a washing machine. Count your blessings Americans, we have it good. Not likely. The Capitalist system that creates wealth disparity is also responsible for the technological and medical advances that have led to the average person alive today living a life better than a king a mere hundred years ago. We are SO GOOD and decreasing the cost and increasing the availability of luxury goods that we have created a culture of mass consumerism. If there is a path to a Star Trek style post-scarcity society, this is it.

This has been the same argument for 50 yrs. Something's got to change. We're 36 Trillion in debt because wealthy Corporations receive government funding for doing next to nothing for poor people. And it's the government restrictions that keeps poor people poor. They can't work a decent job or they risk losing government assistance, so poor people feel helpless and in need for more government aid. More government aid that benefits the greedy and wealthy and not the poor. It's the old feed a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime story. Poor people need living wage jobs not government handouts. When people work they feel like a human being, not like a government number.

@@scifirealism5943 The welfare system is designed to keep us poor. If we make too much money on a job or business we risk losing our government benefits and in most cases that includes housing and food. So what do we do? Do we continue working on a job that won't cover housing, utilities, and food expenses or do we quit our job and live off of government? And Congress doesn't help with welfare. They will pass mult-billion bills to be used as aid to the poor and most of that money will never be used to aid the poor. Most of that money will be used to go towards a wealthy landlord, or food corporations while they tighten restrictions on government aid to the poor. This has been an endless cycle of poverty which has been ongoing since the 1970s, and all we witness is our low income communities continue to deteriorate decade after decade while Congress continues to pass bills for billions that benefits the wealthy in the name of government aid to the poor.

*"Do you know what happens to rich people once you go too far on the working class, middle class and the poor"* In USA? Nothing. This is not France. We are nowhere close to "too far". None of the homeless are taking it to the street (in a manner of speaking), they will always bend and take it quietly. The middle class is won't take it to the streets either; contrary to the alarmist, they are actually doing fine, and the carrot (american dream) and the stick (threat of homelessness) keeps them in line.

There is a reason why Social Security and Medicare are Mandatory Spending. The problem is not Spending. The problem is Revenue. The rich need to pay their fair share and the fair share they have not been paying all this time. Trump said he wouldn't hurt Social Security during his campaigning. Let's see if he lies. This country does want Socialism, but only for the rich. They insanely want the poor and middle class to make the rich richer. Musk says there will be hardships. Will the rich suffer hardships? I'm sure you did, but as I understand it the problem with it today is that what older generations put into was not banked it was squandered, so in effect there is no money there, except what the current working population pays into it.

Trump got good results for the poor and working class. California has had a Democrat super-majority since 2018 and has gotten horrible results for the poor and working class. Millions have fled the state, thousands of companies have fled the state. It costs a lot of time, money, and inconvenience to move, but it became easier for people to flee California than stay there. They've fled to red states like Oklahoma, Texas, Florida in many cases. If we just look at it like a science experiment, what evidence do you have that Democrats have good ideas that work? When they get total, veto-proof control, Democrats get horrific results. Why is that?
