Trump speaks after historic summit with Kim Jong Un

After meeting with Kim Jong Un in Singapore, President Trump spoke about what was discussed. Mr. Trump lauded Kim Jong Un and said he believes the North Korean dictator is committed to denuclearization. Watch his full remarks here.

What are the terms of denuclearization. Any timeframe as to when uranium enrichment will be completely stopped, when nuclear facility will be dismantled and when inspectors are allowed to make assessment. Kim agrees to denuclearized but no timeframe. It could be 2150 about 138 years from now.

Gosh, Trump sounds pretty darned intelligent in this press conference. He also sounds respectful, and he sounds sincere, like he's not lying to us as so many Democrats frequently claim. And he sounds like he was very well prepared, not unprepared as many Democrats loudly and incorrectly claimed, when they should have been waiting to see what happened, and not disturbing the very person who is solving our complex problems. The president is right; this should have happened 25 years ago, but previous presidents and their administrations were totally lacking the skills and motivation to do so. I’ll preface this comment by saying I’m a progressive Independent. I’m comfortable with the President’s handling of this event, and with what appears to be a good start. He’s managing the questions from the press with calmness and dignity. He’s not as articulate at telling the story as some of us may like, but he’s getting the message across. I completely agree with the decision to stop the war games and maintain sanctions while they move forward to work out the fine points. It is no small thing that they met, shook hands and made a start in this way.

I haven’t forgotten any of the reasons he’s been criticized to date, and he always reveals his spin to personal advantage (the beach comment, for example). For today, however, I’m going to give him points on rising to this challenge. He’s clearly tired, and although he hates press conferences he prepared for this one and handled their questions respectfully. I only noticed him bristle once and cut someone off when the reporter was aggressively going after NK’s human rights abuses to date. Otherwise, he acknowledged his nervousness and kept the atmosphere as light as I’ve ever seen him do. If these first steps make positive change for the people of all countries in that region, I am hopeful for them. If the President learns how to be less thin skinned and continues to modify his public behavior, that is a win for the US. I’m going to be patient, and watch how it plays out, and hope for improved relationships among all of us, as well.
