Mexico has been exploiting United States - US gives Mexico a hand, Mexico grabs the entire arm. Maybe it is better for United States to have better products at stable/normal prices, then it is to buy cheaply produced cheap items for little money. Trump is fighting for quality versus quantity .

If you have a trade deficit with another country, that means they don't want your goods as much as you want theirs. Easiest solution to that: make your goods more competitive. If Trump really wanted manufacturing to return to America, he wouldn't bother with tariffs, he'd just make American manufacturing competitive

Canada sells raw materials to the US and buys manufactured goods in return. The " trade deficit" so vociferously complained about and unfairly likened to "subsidies" is because the 400 million Americans have far greater appetite for raw materials than the 40 million Canadians have for American products. The only way to equal the imbalance which it really isn't would be for Americans to buy less raw materials. This will mean a claw back to a standard of living for Americans similar to what their grandparents experienced. Fewer and less of everything. Good luck with that.

I liked some of Trump policies, but his reasoning for Tariffs are stupid. Of course there is a 'deficit' in import vs export with Canada. Canada only has 41 millions people vs 335 million in the US. The US imports for 335m people and Canada imports for 41m people... it's quite simple really. I'm no expert but even I can tell Tariffs won't do what Trump thinks it will. I'm dissapointed, they have alot of smart people on his team and none of them could convince him not to Tariff stupidly.
@evangelpaul1027Күн бұрын
It’s a double play. It’s about the deficits but he also really wants them to take accountability in their own nations for border security in respect to the US. Particularly Mexico & Canada. I suspect that’s why they were given higher tariffs than China at this moment. These tariffs are aimed to bring them to the table and force a new agreement and one that will include border/national security. It’s quite simple to see what he’s doing. The difference is Trump is not status quo versus the others who are reactionary. Do you not think Trump has thought about this? He campaigned on this in 2015. He even said in his new tweet there will be some pain but whether you agree with him or not, he’s right in that Canada & Mexico needs the US more than the other way round. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
@StradhVКүн бұрын
@@evangelpaul1027 The border security is one of the policies I do agree with, Canada should do better there. Canada also suffers from allowing too many illegals and often times, criminals in.
