I’ve seen many liberals say that we need to amend it to exclude hate-speech. But “hate speech” is such a slippery slope. Hate against the government could become included, hate against establishments, hate against oppressive ideologies etc. Once we start making it okay to take rights away from us they won’t stop until they have total control over our lives. Our constitution is made to prevent the human condition. Our ancestors knew that humanity is power obsessed. That is why we have term limits. That is why we have separate branches of government. Free speach should never be sensored. What we need to do is teach kids, students and adults HOW to deal and respond or not respond to speach/opinion of others. How to communicate effectively without resorting to violence/hate, and how to walk away with the understanding that speach and opinion are the right of every person even if you do not agree. Not every opinion expressed needs to be forced or agreed to under fear of retribution of some kind. Social "popularity" is something you go through and learn from in high-school... Maturity means understanding that not everyone is going to agree with you, and opinion or lack of it does not dictate your worth or value in society. We need to teach our children, students and adults that not every opinion and speach by others required an immediate reaction to agree or disagree at all costs, and how not to take everything everyone says so personally.

What’s interesting to me c is that “free will” is left out of the conversation. If I see something that I find ridiculous or offensive, I can CHOOSE to scroll past it and move on! I’m trying to teach my 17 yr old daughter that negative speech against her or other opinions is not necessarily texted at her. It’s within the person posting it. And they a right to that.
