You might enjoy this: I sold my rental property (I purchased for $150,000 15 years ago) for $300,000 profit today. Not only did I have to pay $60,000 in federal capital gains tax, but had my social Security reduced $600 per month because of the sale. Considering total inflation over 15 years was 35%, this was the result: Loss through devalued money = $105,000 + $60,000 tax + $7,200 SS loss. After depreciation I actually earned $22,800 over 15 years on a $150,000 investment or less than a 1% per year return. I did of course get rent all those years, but the sale actually just barely returned any profit.

I run a small business, earning about $270K in personal income with 5 employees, and I have not benefited from Trump's current tax plan. On the other hand, my brother-in-law, who earns over a million dollars, has seen significant benefits. Since we don’t invest in equipment or similar assets, the Qualified Business Income (QBI) deduction hasn’t helped us at all. Trump's proposal to exempt overtime pay from taxes will create a significant cash flow problem for small businesses like mine. Currently, I withhold taxes and pay them once a month, which gives me some flexibility with cash flow. However, under the new plan, all overtime pay would be due to employees immediately each pay period, dramatically increasing payroll costs and potentially causing cash flow issues. I predict many small businesses will struggle with bounced checks as a result. While my CPA agrees with his analysis of how businesses are benefiting, the reality for many small business owners is quite different. Trump has not clearly explained how he plans to fund these changes without massively increasing the deficit. His overtime pay proposal would seriously harm small businesses like mine. For example, last week, my employees worked 20 hours of overtime. Normally, I can manage this with my current funding setup, but if I had been forced to pay that overtime immediately, I wouldn’t have had the cash on hand without cutting into my own income. This is why I believe his plan would be detrimental to small businesses.

We could argue that they hold these jobs while getting their education, perhaps the tips at least but not so much the overtime which is counterproductive to also putting in the extra hours to get an education. I'd be more in favor of just stopping the game and putting caps on the cost of public education. It's truly insane what college costs these days and how universities decide to waste the money as if they despise their students. IMO what we really need is to stop trying to dangle carrots in front of particular groups and focus more on keeping cost of living low for everyone, and bringing back manufacturing because if we keep sending so much money overseas, it is impossible for the math to add up. To be wealthy nation we have to PRODUCE wealth, not just play shell games with where money is going in order to manipulate voters.

This video is biased though, in favor of Trump's plan, by leaving out very important details. He totally misrepresents the unrealized capital gains tax plan for example. That only applies to people with a net worth over $100 million. Kind of an important detail when determining if the tax will impact the average person watching this.
@TGWraith29 күн бұрын
@@OneMoreTank 15:56 he makes that clarification for net worth of $100m, and then he explains how they leverage the assets to take loans and avoid paying a lot of taxes, which was outside the scope of the video but helps the rest of us under $100m understand why it may be proposed. This was an incredibly produced, non-biased video that clearly explained the two plans. He even called out when one or the other has no plans or very few details for their respective proposals.
@OneMoreTank29 күн бұрын
@@TGWraith Yeah my bad he does mention it. He does kinda gloss over it though and then he circles back around with a leading question asking the audience how they would feel about an unrealized capital gains tax even though nobody watching this video will ever need to worry about that. Another commenter already pointed out other issues better than I could: "This analysis is far from fair. It mirrors the same framing tactics often used by the media. The author has already injected bias by creating negative hypotheticals for one plan but not the other. For example, they suggest that a small business owner who hasn’t made much would face higher taxes if they sold their business, but they don’t do the same for Trump’s plan. Important details are also omitted, like the fact that the individual tax rate for the top 1% doesn’t expire in 2025-only the cuts for everyone else do. The 37% rate is already permanent, and a CPA should be aware of that. Moreover, where is the criticism of the universal tariffs? These tariffs alone could offset any potential savings for average people. If you don’t believe me, look around your home-where are most of your goods made? Probably not in the U.S. While I fully support buying American-made products, it’s important to recognize that most goods will cost more because the U.S. hasn’t invested in domestic manufacturing for decades, a trend that began under President Reagan. Even if we were to ramp up production, materials and labor would still be more expensive, so costs would rise no matter how it’s spun. A CPA would understand and acknowledge this. The author also seems to show a bias in favor of Trump, which is common among those with investment or high income. That’s fine, but to claim this is an unbiased analysis shows a lack of awareness about spotting bias or conducting independent research. Additionally, Trump has said he wants to extend some of his tax cuts, but hasn’t specified which ones, making it unlikely that all cuts mentioned here will be kept. Harris hasn’t stated she would eliminate all of the Trump tax cuts either, meaning it’s possible she could keep the simplified tax brackets for everyday people. In conclusion, this analysis is far from objective, and I hope this explanation makes that clear." He also could have gone into the problems and potential loopholes in the no tax on tips/overtime proposals. And this is probably outside the scope of the video but it is well-known that Trump actually hates overtime pay so I really wouldn't bank on him actually implementing that.

My theory is that no tax on OT would encourage people to work more, and be more satisfied with work, and with no additional cost to companies outside of time and a half, They would be able to get more highly motivated workers to stay around longer and increase the production rate. This means more money for workers, workers take that money and spend more which helps stimulate the economy, and puts more money back into the company's pockets to then hire more highly motivated workers. It would be a very nice circle of life. Hopefully that's not just wishful thinking though because we work too hard for our money just for it to get taxed even more!

I agree, but I do wish he gave more information on Tariffs. The tax is on the goods themselves, which means that the American Businesses who are importing the goods are the ones who pay the taxes. China does not pay anything. This will offset the cost onto the American people, as businesses will not be paying more without increasing the prices of goods to make up for what they lose in taxes. Why would the businesses pay the tax instead of buying from American manufacturing instead? It's still cheaper overall for them to import.
@markkempton457929 күн бұрын
@@alpaca6462 Tariffs and corporate taxes are just consumer taxes. In addition, tariffs raise the price of all products in that sector, not just the ones being taxed. It increases demand of the non-taxed (in this case, domestic) products, which raises prices. We saw that with Trump's washing machine tariff. All washing machines became more expensive. And we're not even talking about the massive increase in costs to things that we cannot make cost effectively in this country. No one is going to pay $30 for a plastic pitcher that costs $2-4 at Walmart, but that's what they'll cost b/c the factories would need to pay American wages. We can't have it both ways. unrealized gains taxation would remove one of the few true wealth building tools your average person has left at all. It's an insane idea, without a sale, there are no gains because the until the security is sold it has no price. Meaning (for anyone that thinks I'm talking crazy here) that a stock does not have a price until someone agrees to buy it for some price. Generally the markets are huge so we talk about 'prices' that are aggregates of multiple transactions as if the thing has a price or value. It has no value until it's sold, and that's when its value is established. It's less like a grocery store and more like a flea market, it's worth what you can sell it for and the buyer decides on that price. If there is no buyer at your price you can't liquidate that asset. So without a sale, you have a security with no value, so there's nothing to tax. This is because if you follow daily closing price, you also have to allow for unrealized loss refunds. I do not think the plan will include them paying investors for their losses at all, they'll only take from one side of it. It's a bad idea, and stocks are not something that only Warren Buffett has, we all have access to them. Anyone with an IRA or 401k likely has equity investments.

Trumps plans truly benefit the average American, small businesses, AND the wealthy-- it works for all!
