I've been saying this since he announced he was running. I was born in 1980 and I clearly remember seeing this asshole all over TV since I was in single digits. And since the age of 4 or 5, there's only one word that's ever come to mind when I think "Donald Trump" and that word is "SLEAZY." Even if I didn't actually know that word at 5 years old is irrelevant; I could FEEL the sleaze. The word may have come later, but the feeling has been a constant. So I try to wrap my head around how anyone my age or older doesn't see his sleaze. How could anyone over the age of, like, 33 have possibly voted for this monstrosity?!

Always a pleasure when people outside USA expect the entitled boss-man who gauges one's value on their melanin levels but nearly do a double-take when someone asks them about their heritage....... when the bellhop, maid, waitress, or busboy in another country was treated as an equal by the American traveler, it does mean something good. Do what you'd never see nor imagine the subject herewith to do..... way down at that "native" level..... those pesky vendors that you hear about from cruise ship vacationers that hound and badger the tourist...... take a few minutes to diminish that regal "get my luggage, boy" image and you may very likely find you'd trade your entire neighborhood for some you'll meet a long way from home. Thank the Highest Power that those with not so much to lose can have a value exponentially greater than those with so much to lose. And if something yanked the obscene wealth from beneath this one, ideally we shrug and say "welcome to planet Earth......." Damn sure hope a lesson's learned before something irrevocable happens....... again........next election, it's 100% offline..... firewalls are as subject to corruption as their operators........ballots and boxes, stamps on the hand, plenty of security cams. As a Canadian it is a bit nonsensical that Trump keeps citing Canada as having stricter immigration laws because it is bunk. Canada's immigration policy works quite well as it is a fundamental aspect of our population/economic growth objectives; but those objectives are literally the exact opposite of the Trump regime's immigration policy. Canada is in the process of making it easier for naturalized citizens to sponsor their family members and we have consistently increased the number of refugees we accept each year. Canada does employ a merit based immigration policy, but guess what, so does the USA and every other country in the world. Even as a Canadian I can't just immigrate to the USA on a whim. If I want to stay longer than 6 months or work I need to get a visa. The visa process is entirely based on merit and likelihood of success and contribution to the economy.

I have no illusions that I change their minds because facts don't matter to a lot of people but it does give them food for though even if they don't want to admit it. I have had some fairly in-depth online discussions about the facts around universal health care and the difference in the effective tax rate differences between Canadians and Americans (shocker, middle class Americans pay higher taxes than middle class Canadians) with some effect. It is a minute effect, but an effect nonetheless. Beyond that, it keeps me honest and informed because it forces me to do the actual research to back up my arguments. Cheers, have a lovely day.

The Noble and Mighty Beaver as a fellow Canadian, i'm totally on board with our immigration policy feeding the population count. Without this foresight we could lapse into Japan's situation. The US does have a more strict set of rules / more hoops to jump through overall. That might be justified because as you pointed out, our social and economic framework arguably depends on healthy immigration numbers to bolster a much smaller population that would otherwise shrink and potentially cause a cycle of economic slowdown. There's so much bad information circulating the states and folks making emotional decisions.. not sure if their administration can turn it around in time or if they will lose a formidable workforce of dacas - maybe our country could entice tradespeople and professionals that are needed with some kind of immigration programme that benefits both countries.. though part of me believes a majority of potus supporters seek to punish daca proponents more than they want to find the best long term solution, so however much cooperation can be expected from the office in charge is likely dependent more on appearances and egos than anything else :/

Speaking as a Soldier, Soldiers HATE parades. They are a pain to plan and take up far more time than just marching along, even the small town ones. Also, they are going to have to ship the heavy vehicles up from GA (the closest base with large numbers of those types of vehicles), and loading those things up on a train are a whole other set of troubles.

We have been watching "1869" on PBS. My father claimed relationship to a monarchy. So why are we not royal? This program, through an old man's grandmother's journal explains to a modern teen girl, why the senseless politics, wars, and greed of ruthless men, destroyed his familys legacy. Not just Trump. My daughter-in-law (35), bought a copy of 1984 to reread and loaned it to me. Her husband, my son, one of his brothers and another D-I-N, didn't read it in school because of dyslexia. 2 other sons read it, 2 youngest were not assigned it. But some of them did see the movie! ! Of the 12 grandchildren over age 15, NON have even heard of the book ! ! ! The 20' s started to read, quit because "it's too hard". I was appalled, and started to look for a copy of the movie. Looking to get Fahrenheit 451, also. With most of the WW2 vets and good number of Vietnam vets, gone or never talking about their experiences, the lack of hard history being taught, - -Our country, as it was, may be ending at this 4th generation. On the death of my last uncle, aged 93, one of my boys commented that I was now "the old ones". This " Old One" looking at "the young ones" , who think a war is just "Mortal Combat" - "Call of Duty" or some other game with a reset button, A 20 yr old grandson, flying drones over Arab countries for the Air Force, who BELIEVES it is JUST surveillance, and they will never send Him into combat. I want to go back to my "Old Ones" and beg them not to shield their children from knowing about the cold, hunger, poverty, depredation, danger, and discrimination they endured, coming to America, in order to give their future children security. (We were Scandinavian!) "1869" The PBS program is going to be helpful to my family & timely, even though some kids are struggling with truths of events they have never heard of. Find your own lost truths. We MUST see history repeating, or perish.

Was just speaking to someone the other day about my age (late 20s) from India. He wants tp bring his parents, who are in their late 50s, to the US. He's their only son, and he's married to an American. His parents had good jobs and saved for retirement, plus, he considers it his job to care for them in their old age (and legally, to sponsor a family visa he'd have to be able to support them). Unfortunately, even though they meet financial requirements and are able to afford an immigration lawyer, they were told that the process would cost thousands of dollars and take a MINIMUM of 18 years. As his parents would then be in their mid 70s, at the youngest, they decided that would not be a good point in their lives to relocate. It's sad that even when people are trying to do everything the "right" way, the system takes so long that it is utterly pointless.

*Disclaimer*: (sorry 'bout the rant lol, got carried away....) I hope you're right, there are some positive signs, it's true, but it gets drowned out in all the awful at times. To be fair, we're all kinda complicit in trashing the mother ship, but since, for the foreseeable future, this system is the only game in town, we've no choice but to participate. What it's going to take to fix it, is something politicians, whatever gender, are simply not equipped to handle I think. The whole system needs to be thrown out, not fixed or "reformed", scrapped entirely, the government, the monetary system, everything. Not to be replaced by any other "ism", but something more rational, the Zeitgeist Movement have the right idea (of course, _that's_ comprised of humans, so, yanno....but the idea is the thing). It's a change that needs to happen globally, it's _going_ to happen, at some point anyway, it would be far better if it were voluntary, than _necessary_ after TSHTF. I look at it this way, the rate of consumption in the US _alone_ is almost unfathomable, let alone the rest of the "first world". Between the waste from all that consumption, anthropomorphic climate change, depletion of rain forests, and destruction of the ocean's ecology, a disaster of biblical proportions, which requires that everyone work together to save what's left of the species, is almost inevitable. I could rant on this topic forever, there's just SO much to say. I honestly don't understand how more people are not completely terrified when they look at it, I can only conclude they _don't_ generally "look at it". That is, I think we tend to see things through the lens of our own personal microcosm, never really seeing the _whole thing_ . Freaks me out on a daily basis, looking at the whole, ugly machine, just consuming resources, destroying our home, to pump out useless trinkets for "the masses", setting those same masses to work manufacturing the trinkets, from which it takes 90% of the actual profit, leaving the worker 10%, all so a relative few can live 1000s of x better than 99% of the humans on the planet. It's absolutely diabolical, it really is... Goddamn I'm a cheery fucker aren't I? Lol, anyway, the above is my opinion only, the light at the end of the tunnel is, we already possess all the technology and resources to make this world a MUCH more equitable place for every soul on the planet. The caveat is, it's going to require that we all get along, (the _whole_ planet) and share, you really do learn your most important life lessons in pre-school...... google TZM or the venus project, it explains the concept of a "resource based economy" better than I can, and I've babbled more than enough, but..... if you've read to here, thanks! :-)

Rant away my friend, I am completely consumed with impending doom every second of my waking hours, which are particularly long at the moment. The same exact rant is screaming through my heart and soul and like you, I am just dumbfounded that this is actually happening. But lately, I have had a glimmer of hope, seeing women rise up to restore the balance. The Tao says, there can not be an endless expansion of yang without the yin slowly making it's way through. I'll take it.... lol My 17 year old son is totally crazy passionate about renewable energy. He built an electric car! He organized an entire week of environmental awareness and sustainable development at his school. These children are driven by something other than money. And my last sunny contribution: I don't know if this film got any kind of recognition in America but I recommend you check it out if you haven't seen it. It's a documentary called Demain. It is a film about people implementing alternative solutions all over the world, from the ground up. Not only is it reassuring but it also provides an interesting source of exciting ways to implement change on a local level. If you are like me, I think you could use a break from the apocalypse. Voila! A couple hopeful thoughts to make it through the day without emptying the whiskey bottle..... x edit: thanks for the head's-up on the venus project, I had already read something about it but it got swept away in the madness

You're welcome, I try to share the concept around a bit, I believe a lot more people would be amenable to the idea if they were actually exposed to it. Hopefully it's one of those ideas that will eventually reach a "critical mass" and enter the public consciousness, if it were shared in high schools, I'll bet it would gain a ton of traction, that's where the least "polluted" minds are. Hopeful thoughts indeed, thanks! I do tend to need reminding of the upside at times, it isn't _all_ doom and gloom. The fact that record numbers of women are running for office in 2018 is a _really_ good sign, the Parkland students organizing, making some positive noise, and motivating others is, apart from the tragedy that sparked it, also a really good sign. If there is a silver lining to Twitler and the GOP running the country into the ground, it's that it has _kind of_ woken this sleeping giant of _enough is enough_ in all kinds of ways. It almost feels like nearly a century of _relatively_ sane, competent humans in the office of POTUS, made the country, and the world, kind of complacent. You know, the adults were in charge, it got rocky at times, but it always seemed we'd pull through, now, it's like we're passengers on a jet liner, and the pilot may as well be a woodchuck. The rest of the world, after 70 years of US "leadership", is effectively, on its own, and _it_ appears to be slowly realizing that. Grim to say the least, but it is beginning to look as though a good bit of the world is waking up to "the lie", it's _been_ a lie from the beginning, but it was a fairly well concealed lie, or I guess a better word is "illusion". The current crop of morons has ripped the blinders off, and exposed the system for the sham it is, a lot of folks, especially young people are truly "seeing it" for the first time. It's _about_ time, that's for sure, I just hope it's enough, there's some seriously sleazy stuff going on in DC (undermining "democracy" itself, special interests and whatnot) these days, I don't trust any of them as far as I could throw an elephant (or an election), November can't come soon enough. I'll check that film out if I can find one with English subtitles (I found it on YT with French subs so far lol), looks right up my alley.
