"...lip slurs..." more than just a 'misnomer'. I was passionate about the trumpet from 4th grade-high school. 1st chair throughout. However, I had a secret problem that prevented me from progressing like others. I heard about lip slurs and began years of trying to make my lips cause a no-valve slur. Naive, yes, but who in their youth is assertive enough to ask for help?. I took the term literally. And it eventually caused to quit during college due to frustration and disappointment. In my opinion, the term lip slur should NEVER have been coined. It wasn't until I happened upon Claude Gordon principles that I heard the emphasis on use of the tongue. Unfortunately I had abandoned the horn for 25 yrs . Thank you for your beginning comment about it being a misnomer. Truly. jg

I've found that Claude Gordon's "kick" of the top notes gets the air and speed velocity going much better, PLUS works the corner muscles better. "Let the air do the work",etc.

Yes! I didn’t say this in the video, but I should have. I agree, the air does the work!

@@dashtrumpet Do you mean a combination of tongue position and air flow (kick)?

I do these. Howcome he sounds better? It must he his horn. I'd sound that good, too, if I were playing whatever high end horn he's playing.

He's also getting a lot of help from the room. But most importantly, you gotta relax. The rest in between each cycle is important, and you have to work up to being able to have the consistency and endurance demonstrated here. It'd be nice if there were a "before" video showing how this sounds if you're a good student who is doing this, under instruction, for the first time.
