Contrary to the opinions below, I think most people play this piece too bloody fast, and I find this tempo amazingly perfect! At this tempo the trumpet ornaments stand out instead of being a blur. Exceptional rendition in my opinion. Thanks to Mr. Covey and Dr. Jackson; well done gentlemen!

Absolutely beautiful rendition of one of my all-time favourite pieces of music. John Stanley has, like Heinrich Ignaz Biber, been largely forgotten in the welter of more obvious Baroque masters. Both seem to be making something of a come-back - certainly on here! Great relief! Thanks for a lovely clip of this superb Trumpet Voluntary.

Exquisite intonation and well-balanced acoustics between the two instruments. With the crisp dotted notes and the composer's beautifully-written interaction between the organ and trumpet, as well as glorious harmonies, the overall effect is superb.

Hey, I encountered this sort of music for the first time in Downton Abbey and I found it very enchanting. Could anyone suggest similar music, with the same instruments(trumpet and organ) or similar tunes ? Thanks.
@kevinl62319 жыл бұрын
1) Trumpet Volunteer by Jeremiah Clarke - there is a great version performed by Musica Antiqua New York & Mary Jane Newman 2) Entrance of the Queen of Sheba (organ transcription) performed by Denis Kaputany Both are popular in English weddings and sure beats the usual Mendelssohn. You can get both on iTunes.

Giuseppe Torelli, Alessandro Scarlatti. There is a wonderful 1971 recording by Deutsche Grammophon of soprano Barbara Schlick and trumpeter Adolf Scherbaum performing works for trumpet/voice by these composers, in one of which Barbara and the trumpet (played by Scherbaum of course) "sing" a duet which is, apparently, unique in musical composition. Unfortunately, I no longer have access to the recording, so can't recall in which work it occurs, or whether this was composed by Scarlatti or Torelli. If you can find the recording, it's worth a listen :-) www.discogs.com/Adolf-Scherbaum-Trompetenkonzerte-Kantaten/master/840216

what church is this? Where is it located? Is this a Skinner pipe organ? Dr. Jackson tells us more please?
@Seanjacksonmusic8 жыл бұрын
This is at St. John's Episcopal Church in Stamford, Connecticut, USA. E.M. Skinner installed an organ there in 1917 but it has since then been refurbished a few times. Ultimately what I am playing in this video is a 1991 renovation by Bruce Shultz of Philadelphia. His aim and that of St. John's was to create an American classic upholding the tradition brought to perfection by the late G. Donald Harrison, of the Aeolian/Skinner Organ Company. I can tell you that it looks like, feels like and sounds like one in the room. 4 manuals, 100 stops, 116 ranks!
