I note several people have take the time and effort to correct the reviewer on his use of the term 'chimneys' instead of funnels. I mean these corrections are coming from people who have just sat through a nearly 20 minute film of someone taking a model kit out of a box. Or is it a container? Or perhaps a package? I mean this guy has given up 20 minutes of his life to devote to this unveiling, time he could have spent reading the instructions or determining which type of glue or paint he would use, but no, he's taken time out so you can share his joy and enthusiasm for this remarkable kit. And you people, you people with your need for pernickety discharge, what behoves you to cast disparagement upon such selfless endeavour. Celebrate instead, rejoice at this unqualified undertaking and perhaps even buy the kit and make your own film.

Thanks for the vid. Looking forward to seeing you build it. I just finished the Academy 1/400 scale model a few months ago, and would LOVE to build this one, but literally have no where to put it. Received mine this week. I have been going through it and have a few thoughts. You are going to have to be an experienced builder to get good results with this kit. The model is big but seems to be pretty well detailed. A great many of the deck houses are molded complete so you just have to paint and install. The large scale will mean I can handle detail work without having to use magnification. A model this size could really use some figures to help make it came alive so I will add some. The paint instructions are not very good and the colors are off, the stacks are gold, on the color plan. I plan to use the color scheme from RMS Titanic: a model makers guide. There is no provisions for rigging. I pulled out the instructions from my Academy 1:400 and will use those for rigging. As with all Titanic's there are lots of benches (40), in this case they are all in PE. The connection between the sides of the bench and the slats is a single very fragile trace of PE. I am thinking of using a 3D printer to make the side pieces. No covers for the lifeboats, again looking to have to use a 3-D printer or maybe tissue paper with glue? The masts will not be able to handle rigging (this was a problem also with the early Academy Titanic) so they will have to be redone using wood or brass. The LED kit requires soldering both light strips and resistors seems very sketchy with lots of potential for failure so I am going to skip. The instructions are very very basic and the building order is not well thought out. There is also a good deal of Chinese English, for example, soldering is called welding. The additional parts, wood deck additional PE and brass pieces look good however, you have to order these directly from China through Facebook and email them your CC which is really sketchy. Also, with air shipping from China shut down it is going to take months for the parts to arrive. So, I will skip it this time. The decks have wood engraved in them so I will paint and detail the deck planks with pencil, should work great. This model has a lot of potential but is going to take a lot of technique and skill to get there. Frankly, if you are looking for a good Titanic that can be built out of the box the Platinum Academy 1:400 is the better choice.
@vindicari4 жыл бұрын
I will wait for artwox to bring out a deck, pontos is simply ridiculously expensive,Works out at £140 when the model is good enough, all it requires is the wooden deck. I have built the mantua Titanic same scale twice the fekkin price, but heyho. And the academy titanic, (nothing to write home about) It is a very good representation considering it is all wood. (amazing what lasers can do) much more satisfaction in saying I built that plank by plank frame on frame than just a tube of plastic glue. anyway I will persevere with this, An aside I worked in Harland &Wollf for 30 years and am a Cultra museum friend where the original drawings for ship 401 are held along with artifacts from the ship

I remember building that model at age 13. My Grandfather passed away that summer and I was staying at my Aunt and Uncles. They let me paint and glue which suprised me. I Had the small model that everyone else built back then. My painting skills had a lot to be desired back then. My biggest model ever built was the 747 with the Space Shuttle Enterprise when I was 17. Last summer I acquired that same model that was found in a closet never being assembled since 1977. I still havent put it together. As you can get the revised version, I plan on contacting the model company for new decals as I doubt the 1977 ones are any good.
@johnnyhollis99774 жыл бұрын
You could try copying the decals if they are still bright and then get some decal printing membrane. I do lots of custom decals and they work just fine. When I get a new kit I always copy the decal sheet straight away. Then if you foul up any or they get damaged you can simply print out a fresh set! : )
@scottfirman4 жыл бұрын
@@johnnyhollis9977 That is an excellent idea! I will get some decal printing material and do up a new sheet. Yes , the old decales are still bright, but brittle as glass. Over time, the material that they are printed on just dries out to the point that once you get it wet, it shatters. Even using something like a wetting agent will not help. I read where some one uses the decals liquid that makes them soft so they snuggle down and look painted on can still shatter. I am not even going to risk it without first making a copy.
@johnnyhollis99774 жыл бұрын
@@scottfirman Glad to help! Just one thing that I just thought of though, due to the nature of current printers they will only be able to print colours and not white. To get around this, certainly on larger scales, you could use a faint grey outline and fill inside the line. Still it's better than nothing and opens up all sorts of other wonderful possibilities! You will need to over spray the membrane with a sealing varnish BEFORE you water slide them into position! Regards JH : )

FYI, the funnels... the fourth funnel is erroneously labelled as being a "dummy" funnel. It was not "dummy". While funnels 1 to 3 were connected to the boiler uptakes from boiler rooms 1 to 6 the fourth funnel was a fully working funnel that acted as a foul air exhaust, galley flue, engross room vent and First Class Smoking Room fireplace flue.

9:59 they did that because purchasing records suggest that they were to test a middle tri-bladed screw for titanic. Titanic honor and glory suggest that it indeed was three blades on the middle propeller. Regardless, they give you the option which is nice.
@Milner624 жыл бұрын
Thg didnt suggest as it was documented by a historian before thg.
@TheAussieSports4 жыл бұрын
As far as i know titanic had a centre tri blade prop and after it sank they fitted a quad blade prop to the britannic with a more powerfull center engine, so the kit lets you build the britannic if you want
@Milner624 жыл бұрын
@@TheAussieSports, Olympic had a 4 bladed center screw. Titanic was the oddball as she was a test bed and received a 3 bladed center screw. Fewer blades = more efficiency but also = more vibrations. Titanic sank before the conclusion could be made so Olympic was fitted with a 3 bladed screw after Titanic sank and she retained it for a period of time before it was removed as well and a 4 bladed screw was reinstalled. Britannic never had anything but a 4 bladed screw.

@@randomizer01j23, so the historian that wrote many titanic books that found this and reported it to the world is not as well known as thg? Sorry but thg talked about it but they didnt find this information out. It's sort of like the arched windows in the bulkhead between the saloon and reception room. A historian had a book at print that made the discovery he asked thg to with hold the discovery till his book releases. They announced the find as theirs. Forgive me but I like credit to be given where due. Yes thg has done quite a bit but there is no reason to give them credit for what they didnt accomplish.

@gregellis82634 жыл бұрын
Based on notes in a yard foreman's journal, it is unclear whether it was changed out or not based on Olympic's performance. Nobody has seen the center prop to verify one way or the other.
@deanantony4 жыл бұрын
That’s true. What I have not seen mentioned on here yet and also not mentioned by the video maker is the fact that this kit comes with the option to make the Olympic as well. Propeller blade and also the outside promenade decks were in the box for both Titanic, Olympic & Britannic, they later two being open plan and the Titanic closed F’wd
@TitanicTruths4 жыл бұрын
@@deanantony I never saw Olympics superstructure. There were 4 pieces, 2 for each side for Titanic. I have reviewed several unboxing videos, and its the same 4 in all videos. While it does have the propeller option, and with a little work, the superstructure could be opened to show Olympic. Those are not the only changes needed. More lifeboats would be needed, and the wheelhouse would need to be completely replaced. Olympic had a rounded front wheelhouse, where Titanic was square. Britannic would of course take the most work, should someone want to convert it to her. Asode from the lifeboats and davits. The boatdeck was expanded off the port side of funnel 2 behind the gym. Aft well deck was covered, she had 4 expansion joints. The aft wing deck was expanded to a second passenger deck off the stern. At the very tip of the poop deck, there was a morgue. Fans would love to options for all 3 sisters, no current model company offers those expansion sets. If one did, they would make tons.

This kit is going to require a lot of fine black EZ line,superglue and superglue accelerator,to fully rig this 4.5' long kit.This kit with the seperate $40.00-$80.00 photoetched;and vinyl wood deck detailup sets,the grand total;will round out to about roughly ~$695.00-$700.00 MSRP.For the hobbyist's that want to modify this kit for R/C,the r/c hard ware alone is worth another $300.00-$400.00 MSRP.The styrene stock,soldering station,solder,solder flux,shrink tubing,Evergreen styrene stock,and other tools needed to to make it r/c,will cost you a grand total of about roughly ~$1,200.00-$1,600.00 MSRP. No way could I ever make an investment like that since it will take a total of 1 to 2 years to complete this kit.If you want this kit to be r/c,it can take a total of 3-5 years to complete the kit.

Its pretty pathetic that the makers of this model couldn't replicate the rounded shaft protrusion area of the hull at the stern just behind the center propeller where the shaft goes in, instead its just flat. As big as the model is it could have been done, and to make things even worse they supposedly had Titanic experts involved to make sure everything was correct.

@@graham2sexy955 how can he, he would have died on the boat itself then as he would have been the captain or one of the quartermasters. Please explain how it would have drove it?

@@NicolaMs007 Nicolas he used to drive it when it became very old . Think he got it from the second hand depot . 1970s I think

@@graham2sexy955 doesn't make sense.....are you referring to the actual ship, or a radio control model.....if an R/C model how big was it? If referring to the actual ship the ship sank in 1912.

....welll....nice model until you realise there is only 18 lifeboats instead of 20.

I can't believe that you know which propellers are the correct ones, you know that only three of the four "chimneys" were functional, but don't know that "chimneys" are correctly called "funnels."
