When I joined the Met Police in 1973, I was issued a lignium vitae stick that had its first date of issue of 1917. I carried that stick with me throughout my service and it never let me down. Slipped up the sleeve with the butt held just in the palm of the hand , I found was the best softly softly approach when you know trouble was imminent but the bad guy had not crossed over that line in the sand. The moment that he did, you just let the stick fall down a little so the butt end was just exposed and then launch a punch to a vulnerable point on the body. It never failed me and I policed some of the toughest areas of London

This makes me miss my slap jack. It was an extremely good and concealable weapon. I carried it and a little 32 caliber pocket rocket when I was doing repos. Never had to use the handgun but the slapjack saved my ass on one occasion. I was on the fence about it's stopping power but all of that was put to rest when I slapped a guy across the side of the head w it. It didn't knock him completely out but it fucked his balance all up. It made his whole world spin and turned his legs into noodles. He tried to keep coming at me but his body would not cooperate. I gave him one more at about 70 percent power and it attached his ass to the ground. His friend who previously was acting like he wanted to Wolfpack me reconsidered and put his hands up in the universal sign of I DONT WANT NO SHIT after I reloaded my arm up above my shoulder and zeroed in on him. Whatever weapon you use is only as good as how proficient you are w it. I have several more stories like this one from my repo days but this is the only one where I actually used a weapon. Had a guy pull a baseball bat on me once. Idk if he didn't intend on using it or was drunk but either way he got way too close and I beat him very badly because I was scared and overflowing w adrenaline. I'm no Billy badass at all. Just thought these stories might be somewhat relevant. Plus I've had a few 🍻 😅. They are 100 percent true though

I just came in to say we are the same genre of person. I have that jacket, we have the same build, hair colour, beard and head shape, and I've even been looking for that hat. And I just got into Bartitsu. Its like looking at an alternate timeline, but like, not that alternate 😂

The second instructors method is similar to what we do training for close quarter shots while drawing w the tomahawk. You can thrust it into the chest ,stomach or face and create a little distance.... Or run it straight up like your trying to unzip their guts then bring it down w a good power chop

Weird idea, strike block from strong arm punch then patella strike, step behind. Strike the temporal or parietal bone (kill). Reason, defensive ability is severely reduced from a rear attack.

There is more mass at the end, but it’s not given weight artificially (like lead poured in) but that did certainly happen

Basically the same as all stick arts escrimia etc…only so many ways you can use a stick and so many angles to attack from

My experience with judges in America has been you should have micromanaged the the physical confrontation with no concern for your own safety...let the perp. Do whatever they want.... hopefully you don't end up with any serious injuries and let the police do their jobs when they arrive after the fact...self defense requires no apology.
