Samsung’s cheapest 4K TV Review | Samsung UE43RU7020

Samsung’s 4K HDR LCD TV model range starts with the small (43in), affordable (£339) UE43RU7020. At this price, with those dimensions, it’s designed to snare customers who may not be inclined to devote a lot of their bank balance, or their home, to watching television.
On paper, it’s the Samsung’s unremarkable size and price that’s the most remarkable thing about it. 4K HDR TVs such as this are few and far between - so does the 7020 do enough to make you wonder if it’s worth spending more?

This is a budget TV but make no mistake it's very impressive and the picture quality is good enough for most people. Watching sports and movies is great. The motion smoothing does a great job of removing the judder you see in 24fps content, this is probably the best implementation of motion smoothing I've seen, it's almost as good as real HFR. Netflix looks great as does 1080p and SD content. It's not QLED but it's been configured in such a way that it's good enough for most people. Blacks are black and the viewing angle is good for a living room (very slight off black for people off center but nothing any where near annoying). The reason why I like this TV so much is the price. Samsung have trimmed the fat, listened to feedback and implemented all the features most people need. I literally cannot find anything about this TV that annoys me.

The music is annoying specially when your move on to another content / feature which becomes loud. That’s the only downside otherwise it s a great review.

There’s a setting in the tv that levels out volume between different programs etc!. I don’t remember exactly what it’s called - auto volume or something

They need compensate for boring content, so they have to occasionally jolt you with loud music.

Just got this for my bedroom and whit an samsung soundbar and wireless sub i get a relly good movie experience in my bed and I'm really happy with it. I'm glad i watched your review and ordered whit extra soundbar the sound on the TV alone isent that good. 😊

Just installed this tv today (wall mounted) looks really good, feels well made and picture quality is nice. This TVs black levels are the most impressive thing about this telly, they are excellent - some of the best I’ve seen from an LED TV, especially in this price range - Absolutely no light bleed that I can detect. I had the LG shown in this video originally , not only did it have noticeable bleed but the blacks looked charcoal grey and the OS was no where as near as neat As Sumsungs! I’d highly recommend this Samsung TV, it’s great up on the bedroom where I have it!

I was disappointed the holes are at the top back instead of bottom back. Holes are usually bottom back. I have to move the bracket so quite a hassle adding more screw holes in the wall. I have not had a tv with hanging holes at top back before.

@@Anon-cz5oe It's 60hz maximum on this tv. To be fair- consoles aren't going to be hitting 120hz unless they sacrifice elsewhere for a while. I'd be over the moon with 60 hz / 60 frames per second at 4k

Mine has no black frame. Change the picture size setting to auto as it sounds like the wrong picture zoom is set.

Not sure of measurements. I was surprised the holes aren’t at the bottom of the back like they are on any other tv I bought. They are near the top back instead. I have to move my wall bracket so more holes in the wall I didn’t want. I’ve got a unit underneath tv so not possible to fit the tv in space without moving bracket.

Jael It’s down to source material. It’s self explanatory. The reason the black borders are different is down to source material or the way it’s been broadcast. A television isn’t able to keep changing its black levels unless we are talking about oleds , which turn individual pixels on and off. Borders look good on mine watching movies, they look not as black on some KZbin content. 4K hdr demos looked excellent. It varies, ambient lighting, seating positions and viewing angles will all impact an lcd/led tv. Also remember that, you are going to get some variations, even between the same models - No matter what anyone suggests, there isn’t any lcd/led tv on the market with perfect black levels, all suffer with some form of screen uniformity issues, it’s just for most, it’s either not noticeable or very minor. It’s absolutely naive of you to be expecting anything exceptional with these Samsungs. If your looking for perfection in picture - oleds are where you should be looking. At the price of this Samsung, you simply cannot expect perfection, for most, it’s absolutely acceptable. Like me, it’s a second tv up in the bedroom on the wall - I’m more than happy with its performance and picture!

The picture quality with the terrestrial channels was bad, because the terrestrial feed is limited to only a few HD channels. I found the HD feed on channels 101,102,103,104,105, etc... There are around 10 that i found. Those channels show very good quality. If you wanna watch other channels in HD, then you will have to have sky or virgin, which have more channels in HD.
