I look at goggles as an investment and Fatsharks usually have a good resale value if they are taken care of. I'm was on the fence with these... until Cal chimed in. I like a larger FOV for ghost branches and they are a huge problem where I'm from so when he said that these are not much smaller than the HD2 and clearer then that made up my mind. For me it comes down to the clearer the image the better so HDOs and RapidFire should suit what I need for years to come. The extra money really comes down to maybe waiting to get another quad.. as if I really need one /rolleyes. I do agree thought that Fatshark does need to up their game with features.

Your forgetting other important features, the oled refreshes way faster than all other goggles out there which is really noticeable, the DVR is upgraded, and all the other complaints about power buttons and so forth can be done but they choose not 2 just 2 keep cost somewhat down, oled is very expensive, also the reason for the 37° field of view. Any larger and they would be way 2 expensive, and the would even excel more with proper cameras, they keep the same form factor and fan so not to change it for consumer cost also, the small details missed for a reason.....love my hdo.
@uteboy866 жыл бұрын
Flybad FPV really to keep cost down haha if you are going to sell premium products why not do it right. People spending money on these would pay the extra costs if they put everything in anyway. It's just lazy, I've seen the video with barwell and the fatshark guy his excuses for not doing were terrible. That's like LG going ok we have made the best TV in the world for viewing but we decided not to give you a remote to save money you need to buy that from someone else. Also we heard all your complaints about our last 4 products but you bought those so we knew you would buy these so why bother. They need to be careful because the hobby is only getting bigger and all it takes is 1 company to come along and change the game and fatshark are sitting there going why didn't we listen to their concerns when we had a chance.

Bought the hdo from HK EU -10% a few days ago after flying with quanum v2 for years. Price is not really reasonable for the features you get, but with customs and taxes from china it would have been ridiculous. Still around 100€ more expensive than most alternatives with even less features. But the screens are nice. I just wish they had better optics and would use the whole screen instead of just part of it. Aspect switching and 3D missing and the fan plate is still a huge fail. Edges a bit blurry for me, but that would be even worse with higher fov goggles for me so i probably will keep them due to a lack of other options with comparable resolutions.

ERD Epoch I don't care for a switch either, what bothers me is having to plug in a balance lead for the fan. It's like the fan is still just an add on and I don't like having the battery on the side of my head, prefer having it in my pocket with a long lead or on the rear of the strap for balance comfort like the Aomways, can't do that because the balance lead won't reach.

I bought a set, pretty disappointed. The battery was faulty and smoked on the 1st charge (I did nothing wrong), the vendor wont warranty the battery and so far silence from Fatshark, no "legendary support" from them sadly. The light leakage thru the edges of head tracker bay is terrible, so bad, so far only AndyRC has mentioned this as a problem.. The screens are really good though.

Been flying HDOs for about a month, maybe a bit more. I really noticed the difference when I started with them, picture is soooooo much clearer. I noticed the FOV was narrower too, but I don't feel like the perceived screen size is MUCH smaller. After f few weeks I wondered are they really as good as I first thought - maybe the settings on my HD2s were bad... so I went back to HD2s for a test. Yeah the HDOs really are that good. Way sharper and the colours way deeper, and the image is also less pixelated. The firmware still sucks - actually got worse. You can now bring up the DVR playback menu while flying. Let me tell you, that is really scary. I can't believe the vaunted testing and design let the product out the door with that bug - mot even a warning on the box. That has to be fixed IMO. I could start recording after I started flying with my HD2s, I should be able to wuth y HDOs too, without risking losing my flight image. And yeah they are expensive. Get 'em if yo have the cash to spare, but if you're on HD3s, maybe think twice.

@@smokencabin not really... it extends the life of the goggle somewhat by allowing you to easily upgrade to newer tech (RapidFire etc) and also allows you the option of switching to 2.4ghz or even 1.3ghz video without having to purchase yet another set of goggles for those frequencies. Change module and away you go on the lower frequencies.

Re OSD and goggle screen size. Regardless of the screen size, having OSD numbers around the sides of the screens is problematic. Who has time to read numbers when flying tricky spots? Much rather have a flickering coloured dot set to trigger when the voltage is low.
@mece666 жыл бұрын
Well, if you watch this video you'll find out that apparently the fastest pilot in the world has time to read numbers while flying :)
@TobermoryCat6 жыл бұрын
As I am not the fastest pilot in the world, perhaps I need a little help! Try flying the trees I fly while looking at the voltage - near impossible with doms hdv2 sized screens unless you put the osd close to the middle of the screen. Here's a challenge for Thomas; rip up a track while reading out the voltage. That would be interesting.
@TheMadmacs6 жыл бұрын
nah i like the numbers, helps me keep an eye on my tragically old batteries, i have a turnigy 1300mah graphene that only goes to 16.4v and instantly drops to 14.7v on take off lololol.. i still get 4 minutes of wandering about with it.
@TobermoryCat6 жыл бұрын
TheMadmac, I appreciate some love the numbers but when racing what do you need to know? 1/ check the lipo starts fully charged ( do that with a battery checker prior to flying) 2/ when the quads about to fall out of the air. Its not like your going to pit the quad and load another lipo in a race but nice to know when you really need to land. Maybe I'm missing something?
@TheMadmacs6 жыл бұрын
yeah i tend to wait on radio telem beeping first stage then i check battery to see how fast it recovers??.. then i judge it from there .. i have warnings set very low, so low battery really means '' glide home now''and land now means i'm hurting the battery, ie coming down below 3.5v even afteer recovery.

If the voltage is too far out of view when racing why not just move it to a better spot on the screen in Betaflight?

In Australia for $15 more than Aomway cammanders V2 the HDO is a no brainer for me. Was tossing up between the two of them but ordered the HDO, should arrive Monday. Aomway commander V2 at Phaser FPV $585 aud. Hobbyking, Fatshark HDO $600 aud with a 10% coupon includes free shipping or $450usd. The FOV of the Aomway V1 kinda ruled it out for me unfortunately but everyone I know is happy with them.

Based on my experience with my HD3s, I wouldn’t buy water from Fatshark if I was stuck in the sahara. Big blurry stripe just off center right in both eyes, and the ipd is cranked 100% right on BOTH EYES. Serious optical problems, but FS CS says it’s no problem.

I bought an HD3 not too long ago and I will skip the HDOs and wait for the next Fatshark model. I haven't tried the HDOs myself but I don't think the small upgrade is worth my money. I want that power switch, no second fan connector and a H.264 DVR that does not skip frames. I think Fatshark is well aware of the competition that has been catching up in the last months.

Snorki FPV I'm with you on the DVR thing, but I also want one that I can play backwards/forwards with no delay like the current DVR (MJPEG no problem, don't know how easy it is with H.264), and to also be able to step frame-by-frame because a quad going 50mph means almost 7 meters distance travelled in 5 frames of recording. You might need to look at those last 5 frames individually to find your quad, I had to once. I also wish a company would come up with DVR that does true D1 capture, search KZbin for this: *"Fat Shark DVR vs true D1 video capture"*

Great video stew and I agree they are expensive but for me the aomways don't fit my face well and didn't like the small screens or the functionality of finding a channel and now they put out the v2 which is almost 500 dollars and doesn't have the oled screens or a power button so I would rather pay 20 more and get the better screens also the hdo being white won't get as hot in the sun I don't know why Aomway v2 comes only in black anyway just my opinion

I really enjoyed this longer video! I have Fatshark Attitude V4 (Limited Edition). I bought it for $350, now they dropped the price to $300. I would like to get this HDO but the price is insane if I order it from Europe (EU) because they put 24% custom fee on it + shipping.

I am glad that Fatshark sent these over to you, Stew. It is nice to hear your practical opinion. I was pretty disappointed in Greg's comments/attitude when I watched JB's interview. They have established themselves as the top brand through quality and being first to market. Because there's not enough competition they appear to be unwilling to change much (on'/off switch for example). Not until we see other competitors (like Aomway) consistently deliver and take market share will we see FatShark change their strategy. When you're the king and on top, you can command top dollar ... but in a niche market, all it takes is someone with a vision and some seed money to come in and provide superior products at a lower price. For me, there are other options that are "good enough" and so much more affordable. Anyway, I enjoyed your "take" on this - thanks for being a voice of reason.

Until a brand makes a good modular goggle with good screens and great warranty and customer service fatshark will always be my choice
@licensetodrive99306 жыл бұрын
I think Fatshark are (rightfully) treading carefully with adding new features or even thinking about redesigning from the ground up - they've been producing solid, reliable goggles for years and in this day and age where a company's image can be wrongly tarnished with one forgivable mistake but few do because complaining online seems to be an active hobby for too many people, they may be scared of making big changes because the likelihood of it being universally disliked isn't something they want to risk. A power switch would be nice on my Fat Sharks (I could easily add one, but don't particularly want to take them apart), but I'm happy with the "battery plugged in = on / battery unplugged = off" scenario because in sunlight you don't have to try and look at a LED to see whether the goggles are on or not, and I wouldn't want any system that does automatic off with no activity for x-minutes or when it's not on your face, though I would like a goggle battery voltage in the display somewhere.
@MariusGiurgi5 жыл бұрын
I'm curious to know what would be the long term effect of wearing these googles given that they transmit 5GHz right next to your skull. With the advent of the 5G networks and the various concerns around it I wonder what kind of damage this kind of radiation exposure would have on people's brains. It would be good to know whether it's benign or not.

So Fatshark doing what they always do. Make a minor improvement in one area, and then charge a premium for it. The only way any company listens to what customers want....is if you stop compromising and buy their stuff. Even if it is a switch for the fan. If they are going to drop in brand new screen technology, why not build in a 20 cent on/off switch. Its just money grabbing. But people will fall for it because "Fatshark" is printed across the facia of the goggles.

David Faustino And that’s probably why the dominators are three times more expensive. You don’t need a pair of goggles with diversity antennasand DVR to make them “good” we probably just have a different definition of decent. For me a decent pair of goggles is one that gives me a good clear video image. And the Eachine VR 007 do pretty good. I’m not flying racing drones I’m not doing crazy acrobatic tricks. So a pair goggles that lets me fly around in a 200 foot radius is really not all that bad. Especially if the cameras on my drone are only 25 mW

I'm with Joshua Bardwell on the price of Fat Shark goggles - they're priced right, because if another company could come along and make an identical quality goggle for significantly less then they would, but they haven't, because they can't.

licensetodrive There are already goggles that compete with the fat sharks. The only special stuff about this one is that it has a clearer screen. That’s not worth 200 extra dollars. If it had way less latency and double the range of the amoway v 2’s then sure, by them. But I don’t see how anyone would spend half a grand on a pair of FPV goggles unless they are professional FPV racers or freestylers. And that’s probably who these goggles are marketed to, but for the average consumer this is obviously way too expensive and I think fat shark grossly over prices their products

Marcel Schuller I don’t need Kodi on iPad lol. I use VLC on my iMac Pro. ;) Kodi does run on iOS but never needed it. I have win10 connected to my 4K tv. Btw, it is iPad... not I-Pad lol

Marcel Schuller how many global repair centres do the other goggle manufacturers have? The price is high because there's more to it than what the individual components cost, too many forget that. People like me will gladly pay extra for proven technology from a long-standing company with a support structure if things go wrong.

I've only ever used Fatshark. Teleporters v4 They are old and out of date. But with goggles being so expensive... These things may have great screen but only a foolish person or a pro would want these... 500usd gets you a ton of other gear....
