With the HD3s, I get a clear, corner to corner image when using the standard, thick face foam. With the Newbee High Density foam, the edges are blurred. I guess that would be fine with the HDOs. I think I'll wait for HDO v2 before upgrading though!

I'd just return them for a refund and order a new pair. Clearly does not perform as described. Dunno about other countries but in Australia you could easily demand a refund for something like that. Consumer laws here are pretty good. I've worked in retail for 18 years and that's obviously a faulty product.

The last version (HD3) had its problem too. Some HD3s had the blurry lens and had to be recalled. To add insult to injury, Fatshark wouldn't cover the cost to ship it back for repairs. It would've cost an arm and a leg to ship it back from Canada. Anyhow, I was able to fix the problem by using the -2 diopters, which is the cheapest and quickest fix.

Thanks to your video I found that mine were affected by the orange inner glow. I have been flying all summer but have been sitting under canopies and it wasn't that bad. After watching your video I went out in the sun and yep I had the same issue. I remember when I ordered it was Batch 2 so I reached out and FatShark CS sent out a new housing to fix me up. Thanks to your content and attention to detail you helped me out.

If I'd paid that much for goggles and they were that faulty I would have expected the company to replace them with a completely new set. But it was interesting to see you take them apart and rebuild them.

Andy Thank you, I just bought a pair of HDO's and mine have the exact same problem. The light leakage is horrible. I appreciate the honesty of your review. What Fatshark sent us is unacceptable for $500 US. This is supposed to be their flagship model. Changing the shell material mid production is so shady. I'm not even sure what to think about Fatshark anymore. Keep up the good work sir.

I absolutely agree. Everyone is going to have a different experience. It depends on how good your vision is and how the unit fits your face. I love my hd3's even tho I get a little blur around the edges. My peripheral vision is getting worse as I get older😂. My eyes cant focus on a wider field of view like they used to. Great video!

I wonder how long that took you in real time to make the change over. As a former Sr. Tech, I know how finicky those flat flexible cables can be. They aren't meant to be removed/reseated/removed/reseated .. etc. They are made to be installed once, but if you are careful, you can get away with a few changes ... but the contacts wear out pretty quickly. Glad that all that work seems to have worked for you. I completely agree that when you spend the kind of money that Fat Shark demands for their product, you have a legitimate expectation of a high level of quality control. That is incomprehensible what Fatshark did. Changing the old material for one which worked fine for a unusable one... also making it thicker is not a good ideia, because it'll make it heavier. Why don't use the old material which worked fine?! Will you try the Caddx Turtles, the first RunCam Split competitor?

I have had my shell replaced on my hdo at the Australian repair centre, only to get them back to find I still have light leakage mainly from the head tracker bay. Didn't have this from my hd3. Something is still not right here Fatshark. Great honest review Andy👌.

For some time I had been thinking of upgrading my fatshark dominator v3 but I cant see why. On most of my craft I use Foxeer Monster v2 HS1197 ideal for 16:9 Goggles, 4.3 as is getting harder to get hold of yet fatshark release the fatshark HDO that are fantastic but are 4.3. For now until they look at a OLED display for 16.9 I dont think I will be changing.

I've used black velcro (the soft side) tape behind my module on the inside of my other module door and have at least eliminated the red hue. Shouldn't be necessary on a premium product, but it works.

Hi Andy,thx for the honest info. Mine has the light leak too. I also see 'Moon like objects' in both the lenses. I can see it in you're goggles too. At 01:29 it's clear to see in the right lens.. I never saw this in any other goggle. Can you thell me what those are please? Thx!

I worked for GE plastics for 20yrs as materials engineer and white is translucent until it reaches a certain thickness..Hunter Douglas Blinds had my division and our color matching department working on trying to make a film opaque for them.... for a long time.. yrs and never happened

Why did the flat cables need to be disconnected at all? Looks to me like all the components could be removed, transferred and installed together while still connected.

Can also break em trying to disconnect/reconnect as well (been there done that). In IRC's disassembly video they show the goggles opened up with top and bottom laying flat on the table, with all cables still connected (just pulled the two side boards out without disconnecting either cable). They only disconnected the main ffc between DVR and module to get to the bottom screw, which they could have simply removed first, and then everything would have come out of the shell as a unit. The only fussy bit is pulling the ffc from the sticky goo, but that's fussy whether it's connected or not.

I have a feeling fatshark will show the removal of the FFC if something drops or hangs for a second relying on those cables they are toast.

@MarkItAZero why burned ?!! with 18650 is much better, and cheaper, otherwise same goggle man, I checked with lots of great sources , include fatshark , the only difference is changing 2s battery with 18650 battery case , get couple of 18650 very cheap and you'll be set, unless you paid too much for it, ?! because the new HDO is £60 cheaper , and came with 18650 battery case worth about £20 - £30 , so, whats the issue ??! you wanted the 2s battery for £60 ?! sorry you feel that way, but unless you paid more than what you should have, I think you'd be way more happy with your great Goggles ,,

@MarkItAZero I do feel you , if you expected to get a version with battery and now you got only a battery case, but the new HDO batch all come with 18650 battery case , the one with 2s battery is the old ones , I've checked it with all approved fatshark sellers all around the world, I do agree with you about things like power button when they charge premium price, but the good thing is fatshark stand behind their product and even after your guarantee expired they still help you out if something happens , and last but not least, don't forget the premium price we paid is for the best fpv experience exist in this world, we can always earn more money, have fun man,

Really!!!! This is unforgivable given the cost of the product. I'd like to think that those other reviewers with large KZbin following reviewed the earlier batch of the product, otherwise questions about impartiality, integrity and honesty come to mind. For your part, Andy, thanks for this most honest and impartial review, mate! Anyway, with the HD3 now at end-of-life, let's hope Fatshark do better with the release of their new product.

Hi Andy, bit of a silly question but how do you tell which casing you have received. Asking this because this is my first pair of goggles but mainly because I have a bit of an orange halo when I am wearing but not as bad as you have described. My eyesight might be the problem -6 in both eyes with an astigmatism in one.

I think everyone in the US should watch this video by XJET(RCModelReviews), " The end of recreational drone and RC model flying in the USA? ", it is important. It is about our hobby and is happening now. We may be voted out of our airspace. and the surprising enemy is Commercial Drone Association, they will not get an airspace above 400ft due to aircraft traffic, so they need our airspace for " pizza and book" delivery. The only side that was not represented there is the us. Watch, share and start calling your congress and senate officials, before is to late.

The huge problem with the HDO's is that the light gets so blown out that its harder to see with. And to me the small viewing size is very noticeable. Very disappointed in them. The might mean is going to very depending on the shape of your face.

I was a box goggle user, the hdo, flysight, and commander V2 came out relatively around the same time. I opted for the Commander V1...i love'em! Built in diversity and so light, i forget that they be on my face lol. 650$ USD (including the module) and they dont work...properly!!! Might as well be bangood retailer!!! SMH 😝

Been flying 16/9 aspect ratio for a while now on my commander v1s and always thought this was the way to go. but recently picked up the commander V2s. Now I finally get why 4/3 aspect ratio is so much better... really liking my aomway commander V2. and looking forward to your review of them. This is basically why Fatshark doesn't want to change anything about their googles, too much risk in even fairly small changes. It's really too bad that their historically good QC has failed them here on a new product bc it may tarnish them somewhat.

If you see all the power button and fan mods on youtube, wihch are super easy and they tell us they dont wanna change anything because its too dangerous. That's good to hear ,top tip re enforce the switches with some hot glue ,use an external battery mounted on back as it balances them out and you can move the lens 10 to 15 mm closer to the screen if needed to focus.If you ever have an issue of not being able to power them on ,try dabbing a small amount ipa (alcohol) in to the power switch and it will clean the contacts as they are tiny SMD type. I have heard a few people say the same as you ,I have been looking at getting Fatshark type goggles ,but I just don't think they are good value ,the closest so far I would consider are the EV200D . For pure value for money and they work ,you can't beat the Ev800D's (and they have a on/off switch!)

hi. I always follow your videos very well explained. I have a problem with my drone listening. I finished with the drone so powerfuleeeeee I finished my work with my new drone with betaflight 3.3 My configuration is "Mito frame - sp racing f3 - 4celle - esc dshot600 with engines rs2205 2500kv. it is more than 1 minute of flight, even without gasping, the engines become hot, so hot, I can touch them by hand without burning ... en worries me. to other road bike mt2204 2300 engines that I have in drone always with betaflight 3.3 and f3, these do not overheat I activated the dynamic filters. I used the card for the race with the metal screws and the anti-vibration rubber But nothing, always overwrite I flew with the propellers from Dal5045 but now I have replaced them with " t5040c tripala ciclope "and the power pushing has decreased to a bit of response even amper .... but the temperature remains. I checked the timing with the blazon and is set "medium" .... !!!!!? !!!!! Now not so much to do Either we fly on to the engine. Yet these engines are well calibrated weight and excellent workmanship, Mica is normal is temperature?
