Today I say "piston" a bunch of times, delicately hold a Q-tip, and beg to be sponsored.
How to rebuild a 4-piston Wilwood Dynalite brake caliper with new square seals and crossover o-rings. We didn't need to replace the pistons, pad wear plates, or bleeder screws as they were in serviceable condition.

Man this video was awesome, exactly what I needed to see to have the confidence to rebuild my caliper myself instead of just shilling out the extra $100 for a new one. The video quality doesn't go unnoticed either, sometimes its hard to find such well put together videos for such specific applications, so I wanted to say thank you for making these videos, you just earned a subscriber.

i'm thinking about the Wilwood BBK for my '17 Fiesta ST before next track season so this is super helpful. Need to rebuild my stock calipers again now after 1 track weekend (on EBC Bluestuffs and slotted rotors) because the dust covers are both torn (wore pads to the backing in 6 sessions...), so i'm getting 'good' at it, It's very helpful to see that the Wilwoods are almost as 'easy', just with more pistons... (the Fiesta BBW is the Dynapro 6). Hopefully, with track pads, won't need such frequent rebuilds. Thanks for the video!

Wilwoods are even easier, they don't have dust covers 🤣 But ya, I haven't attempted rebuilding regular single piston sliding calipers because local rebuilds are quite inexpensive. Not sure if Fiesta STs are sliding or opposed.

I had to replace the seals on my AP Racing calipers, they were hard and crusty due to the heat of track driving, the replacement seals were painfully pricey compared to what you paid for your seals.

Real world 1st-hand maintenance feedback right here, thx! I'm sure your AP Racing brakes have many advantages over a basic Dynalite in your track weapon.

@@mostlyuselessgarage To be fair, when I purchased the AP's they were much more substantial (more capable to handle heat) than the Wilwood offerings available for the MX-5, and even now I believe there's few if any other "big brake kits" that could match the AP solution I have. So, it was a "necessary" expense for performance.

These days, in North America at least, big-boi brake kits like you mentioned are available from vendors like SuperMiata, Good-Win Racing, and V8 Roadsters but they don't come cheap. By comparison Wilwood Dynapro's are a decent deal.

@@mostlyuselessgarage my dynpros are ok. But maybe be time for a rebuild. How many street and how many track miles did you get before having to rebuild? I use porterfield r4-1. And my wilwood want squeak and squeal and grind. Yes still have pad material and not on the backing plate.

With the bore and seal oiled the piston will slip in without much effort. I'd expect it to bind up and get cocked if it rolls, I've not had that happen to me.

Yup. They have similar performance to 4-piston offerings from other manufacturers, like Brembo and AP Racing, for a fraction of the price. And they use many of the same pad compounds, like Hawk, G-Loc, Ferodo, etc.
