Following several years playing with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, he recorded and toured with Prince & the NPG from 1996-2001, and his performances with the group continued periodically until 2012.
His prince studio work includes the Emancipation, New Power Soul, Crystal Ball and Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic projects. In addition, he has worked with stars like Janet Jackson, Lionel Richie, Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight, Karyn White, Alexander O’Neal, Luther Vandross, Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, TLC, Patti Labelle, Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, Maroon 5, Alicia Keys and Rhianna. Since Prince’s passing in 2016, he has also performed with the reunited NPG.

I know Mike from way back he told me he was moving to Minneapolis I moved to London in 1988 I went to see The Sounds Of Blackness at Hammersmith Odeon and ran into Mike early 90's

Being a DC area native and guitarist myself I enjoyed this interview w/ Mike Scott ! Prince was my initial inspiration on the instrument and Go-Go music was definitely apart of my early musical experiences.

I think Dez and even Wendy are as melodic and pocket funky. I loved what Mike brought into the band and it's music, but no more so than the music Prince created with Dez,Wendy, Levi..etc. it's all badass AF! But Prince himself, he's my favorite Prince guitarist. 😂

@@stratcat9432I see Wendy as a musician more than a guitarist. If Prince hires you that means you are excellent at what he needs at that time in particular. Prince seemed to also consider your image on stage. Another one I really liked is Miko.
