Featured in TIR Episode 316 (Part 1 of 2; see Part 2 here: • "TRUTH IN RHYTHM" - St... ): R&B singer Stacy Lattisaw Jackson. Just 12 years old when her debut album came out in 1979, during the next 10 years she would go on to record nine more LPs, with four reaching the R&B Top 20. During that highly successful period - often working with producer Narada Michael Walden - she notched a dozen Top 15 R&B hits that included “Love on a Two Way Street,” “Let Me Be Your Angel,” “Nail It to the Wall” and the Johnny Gill duets “Perfect Combination” and “Where Do We Go From Here.”
Retiring from popular music while still in her early 20s, she turned her life’s focus toward family, church and spirituality - authoring her autobiography in 2011, called “I Am Not the Same Girl: Renewed.”

Stacy it is great to see and hear from you again. You're one of the great musical talents ever. Right up there with other well known D.C. musical natives like Marvin Gaye, Mya, Gil Scott Heron, Chuck Brown, and Duke Ellington. That single "Let Me Be Your Angel" is so legendary.

I once read that Stacy Lattisaw was his first Production credit. He told the record company he wanted to produce. They responded by offering him a side on Stacy’s second album.

Her albums Personal Attention & What You Need are absolute gems. They were successful but deserved a bigger push and more airplay.

It's so wonderful to see Stacy happy and in a great place in her life. I played in her live band in '81 and her voice was amazing beyond her years. No autotune, pure God given talent. I pray for continued blessings for her and her family.

Stacy Lattisaw has a beautiful voice. I grew up in Washington, DC and it was a really big deal when Stacy's debut album came out. DC was so proud of her. I loved Stacy's album Let Me Be Your Angel. Childhood memories! I'm happy to see that Stacy is doing well. ❤

Scott, she had them songs, Block Party was a tight joint Narada hooked up for her. That Personal Attention album was half produced by Brownmark. I would imagine you mentioned this maybe in part 2 about her being in that King Dream Chorus that sang King Holiday which was instrumental in getting Dr. King's Holiday a national Holiday in 1986. Big respect to her for not compromising her morals to make quick buck.

I was telling a friend the other day. we both are old school musicians/generation ex-ers. too much technology, bad music, and very little talent. killed the music business. music was NEVER meant to be played with machines, but real musicians, arranged by TOP arrangers, and produced by Top/good music producers. in a REAL recording studio. the youngsters today get a beat machine or a computer. and the really believe they are real musicians. making beats in their bedroom.

"Come On And Feel My Love" And Dynamite! Awesome Club Jams Back In The Day. Very Nice To Mention The Master, "Van McCoy". Underrated Producer On Many Levels. But, Narada Michael Walden Gave Her The Stacy Sound. Those Two. Perfect!

I may be wrong, but Stacy is probably the 1st female child R&B/Soul singer superstar who paved the way for others like her. Mirah Carey was inspired by Stacy and Tina Knowles (Beyonce's mother) shared a story of how Stacy's amazing talent challenged and inspired Beyonce. Hopefully BET or NAACP shine light on her contribution to the culture! Let's give this sister who just due already!

The only good thing for some artists that come out of the music business is the music , but so many artists are never paid for all their hard work, the producers, record labels and managers own the music and rights to artists name , so they sit back for years and collect money. And most of the time theirs no one in the music industry that has artist’s back the way sports stars and actors have . That’s why I always have said that I love music but I hate the music industry…

Van McCoy had written and produced The Jacksons & The Sylvers. He was a logical choice. Narada’s success with Stacy propelled him into elite producer status.

I'm sorry I disagree with her. I respect her but this Kumbayah my lord mnet she was hoping for or still hoping for is not there like that. I love great music. But, you alos can't be naive to the facts. From the time she entered the business. Prince was already on the market. Ashift had taken place back then when she came on the scene. Hip Hop was still finding its legs. So by the time lets sa Purple Rain hit. The women in Prince's videos were mostly salacious looking. I guess the industry took on that look and approach at the time. So if you coming in with religious views and things like that. I guess the industry wasn't for her. She has a great voice but, maybe that is all it was. I respect her choice to leave the industry. But, its not the industry is an individual thing. You know what to stay away from. Lik she said, it neer was for her. Some reat songs but, no one really remembers her, except the few people in radio that plays her earlier hits.

I respectfully disagree, I mean , she had great role models like Natalie and Aretha in an era where people were respected for their singing voice not their sexy image , I don’t think she was necessarily naive by the time she hit in her late teens and twenties, but from what it sounds like by the time she was in her 20’s she wanted to have more power and do things her way, remember she was only 14 when she started, who would’ve been naive to the business by then. And she spent most of those years not having to try to be sexy until the late 80’s and early 90’s , sounds like if she could’ve did things her way she would’ve continued to make music .
