I was born here in 1946 at 100 N. Pershing St. Moved to California when I was 5 years old. On a road trip through NM last year, I drove through T or C. Stopped for dinner and stayed for the night. Went by the house I was born in, built by my grandfather in 1910 out of adobe. House sat empty for over 30 years, then was bought and restored some time in the recent past. Knocked on the door, wanting to see the old house, but the occupant, an older Hispanic woman wouldn't allow it. Drove away disappointed. The town hasn't really changed much since 1946. Lots of empty building downtown. I was pleased to see that almost all the old motels in and around the downtown area had been remodeled and were very upbeat. Couldn't get a room. Sold out at all of them. Had to stay in a modern hotel on the north end of town. Visited the Catholic cemetery to visit my maternal grandfather that passed away in 1951. Obviously it had not been maintained, and couldn't find his grave. The registry there showed the spot, but was very confusing on the exact location. My uncle Rito Garcia, was a grade school teacher there all his life. I'll return some time in the future, as the pull to the town is very strong. Have a lot of good memories there with my siblings and my cousins. I will always love T or C.

Whoa! Almost every vehicle is a pickup truck, SUV, or a van. Hicks in the sticks (and this is from someone who was bored stiff living in Las Cruces). Every now and then I think of leaving the crime here in Albuquerque, but after watching this, it wouldn't be to here. Thanks for posting this.

Damn see a lot of people think TorC is whack. It is not big city life just really a kick back kind of town. It's a lot better than many other small town places in New Mexico. Not much going on now because covid of course. There is a couple of fast food places and other restaurants. 2 golf courses 1 in town and by the lake about 10 minutes away. Yes a Walmart here. A few drinking holes if that is your thing with 2 breweries. A bowling alley. Mainly a quiet retirement town. Very reasonable housing and rent prices compared to other towns of the same size. There is a big Fiesta every year 1st weekend in May. Elephant Butte Lake a few miles away with their festival once a year and over 100,000 visitors at times on holiday weekends hit the lake also. Plus Caballo lake a few miles south. Veterans day car show at the only Veterans home in New Mexico. Of course the hot springs. The Gila forest near by. El Paso or Albuquerque 2 hours away. Las Cruces an hour away. Population around 7500. Very reasonable weather almost year round. Rio Grande river runs by town. Tons of outdoor activities. Some great fishing and hunting areas. Hardly any major crimes. Bullocks another food store. A bunch of art places. Yes it does get a bit boring for younger people as not as much activities you would get in a big city, but they all do pretty much same thing anywhere they go anyway. An elementary, middle and high school. School sports are big here. Other tiny village towns and ghost towns nearby. You can pretty much go anywhere in the state within a day or less from here. It has it's advantages and disadvantages. It is not a modern tech town kind of behind times. The people are friendly. Yes every town or city has their bad people and idiots. It is what you make of it. Like the saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover.

People comment here that this place seems depressing! Ha! You want to know DEPRESSING? Try living in a northern State such as Wisconsin or Michigan, where for 7 months of the year you get gray, gray, and more gray, cold, windy, drizzly weather! Oh, there's plenty to do in the off season here: just go shopping at WalMart or hang out at the library. Or, if that doesn't keep you from going "gray nuts", just check yourself into any of the dozens of bars that are in most every town....and sit there and drink until you FINALLY come to the 3 or so months of sunny, blue sky weather. Sorry, but a warm, sleepy, quiet, blue sky, sunny town such as T or C resonates well with me....👍

I lived in T or C for about 6 months in 1995. As the car starts driving down Austin St, it passes right by the house I used to rent. The town looks good.

Yea I lived there for about 5 years. '09 to '14. for the most part on "Jones st"which was a one-block st between Main and Broadway downtown, then a couple years on "Marr", also downtown a block from "Bullocks" grocery store. It was hard to live anywhere from anything in that shithole. There was one stop light on Date street until they built the Walmart then a second one was added. I actually worked at that Walmart, then later at the hospital on 9th street It was quite and very easy living but I don't like the desert. The water tasted like it came right out of the Rio Grande

I dont think this is an ideal place for a big box or chain stores to thrive on, low population plus this is the definition of being in middle of nowhere
