Visual Sound is now TRUETONE, and the new V3 Series Jekyll & Hyde has been re-designed from scratch by Weil and RG Keen to meet the demands of today’s players. With more flexibility, more great tones, and better construction than any of its predecessors, you’re going to love this new incarnation of a historically great pedal.
Available for Demos and Session Work.

Thanks for another great video Shawn. I think that Truetone are about the best sounding and well built pedals out there and for such a great price too, what's really nice is that they allow you to tweak the hell out of them to get the sounds that you desire. One thing that I find odd though is that they put the OD after Distortion, to me that is backwards. I always put a mild OD at the beginning of my pedal chain, ahead of more high gain ODs or Distortion pedals. At least they allow you do that with a patch cable but the order of those two effects in this box is backwards IMHO. But not a big deal. Even though I already have a bunch of high caliber OD/Distortion boxes I still plan on snagging one of these one day. I used to have the very first version of the J&H almost twenty years ago, the silver one and from what I can tell this newer version V3 is even better.

Just wanted to say thank you for making this video. It inspired me to search one of these pedals out back when it first released and I'm glad I did. I've gone through a tone of overdrives and distortions over the years but this one has been a staple on my board since I first applied the pedalboard tape. The clean mix on the overdrive is a really versatile feature. You can cover ground all the way from subtly broken cleans to vintage Klon-like tones to a pushed TS808 tone. The distortion circuit is probably the most usable I've tried. The four voicings on the distortion are all very usable and the amount of headroom on certain settings is really impressive. My favorite way to run this channel is with Bright A and Voice B. The real magic is how well the two channels blend together. It's very easy to dial in whatever sound you want on the individual channels and combine them together to get lush harmonic response. It's going to be compressed (with two gain stages running concurrently that is what you're signing up for), but apart from diming every single knob, it is very difficult to make this pedal sound bad. I've tried this pedal in front of Mesas, Marshalls, Fenders, Carvins, Oranges, and more. No matter where your home is, there's just a setting for everything. The only real tone I haven't been able to get out of this thing is modded JCM800/EVH territory, but that's why the 5150 pedal exists. Great video about a great product. The only thing I don't understand about the Jekyll and Hyde V3 is why it sounds better than amp channels and drive pedals twice its price.

Personal question Shawn - say you were using a super clean blackface Fender and you had to cover a classic rock set list that would require a wide range of Marshall tones from slightly driven to roaring....what one pedal would you use? I was thinking about something like this Jekyll & Hyde if it responds well to volume knob cleanup...but what would be your preference?
@TheJofrica
@TheJofrica 9 жыл бұрын
I have an original silver J&H pedal. No way in heck will I ever let that one go, the Jekyll and Hyde pedals are among the most aggressive drive/distortions I've come across. This new one looks really good. The clean mix looks pretty cool as that was not on the previous versions. Also the in/out options are more advanced. No noise gate on the original though, which I like. Great job by Truetone on this new version.

At 4:42: "It's a pretty nice feature that's pretty exclusive to the TrueTone guys..." I can hear Brian Wampler's head exploding! The Dual Fusion pedal came out I think in early 2013 and had two OD circuits that could be stacked in either direction or run as completely separate pedals! (Although I plead ignorance of when Visual Sound began making such two-in-one pedals with these stacking options.) Anyway, great playing as always Mr. Tubbs! I am one of those who would happily pay for a CD collection of your demo intros!

@hansflikkema433
@hansflikkema433 7 жыл бұрын
I use the overdrive side of tis J&H as a Pre Amp with only little gain and clean mix on 1 o'clock and therefor the Distortion definitely before the overdrive as the default position is. I tried the other way around, but had to much volume issues combining it with other pedals. So just like a distortion before a real (pre)amp. Since I also use other High gain lead distortions like a Tubescreamer, which I position after this Distortion and before the Overdrive (as pre-amp), it is very nice that this pedal makes that possible; so placing the 2 parts wherever in a effectloop. So great pedal, great sound, always use it, but.... Unfortunately the switching circuit has some latency and volume fall-back while pressing, didn't you notice that while testing? So now I use an extra true bypass loopswitch for activating the distortion. The Overdrive site has the same issue but I don't ever switch that while playing.

NEED HELP HERE, I've watched a couple of reviews for this box, im really really into it, as I hear that sweet overdrive output, excellent for bluesy rock stuff, and the distortion side is also great, but im wondering if it's suitable for more grunge-sludge like sound. I got the impression that it might be a bit noisier than it has to be, like not as fat as it needs to be. Can anybody enlighten me here, and thanks for the review.
