Dr. Loomis, along with his post as the Medical Director at the Center for Plant-based Living, he is also a practicing Lifestyle Medicine clinician and the Medical Director at the Physician’s Committee in Washington D.C. Caryn is a plant-based chef and the founder of the Center for Plant-based Living in St. Louis, MO. Together, Jim and Caryn are taking the top nutrition topics and answering all the questions surrounding them in short 10-20 minute videos.
· Can you get enough protein on a plant-based diet?
· Is gluten bad for me?
· Does soy cause breast cancer? Or, man boobs??
· What are nightshades and should I avoid them?

Excellent video! I went plant based 12 years ago, my constipation AND all the pain from my Hemorrhoids both disappeared. Oh so very pleased!

The soup looks good! I always wondered, if you blend the beans or lentils in recipes, does it affect the fiber content? Thanks for the video!

Here’s this the conclusions found in this small study. “This study demonstrates that fruit smoothies, without added sugars, can be a healthy way to consume the recommended daily dose of fruits if the fruit serving size is equivalent to what one would consume if the fruit(s) were whole. Fruit smoothies containing berries, such as blackberries or raspberries, may yield a lower glycemic response than consuming those fruits whole. We cannot conclude that there are sex-specific differences in glycemic response to whole fruits vs. blended fruits, but more studies like this, with a larger sample size, are needed for a more definitive conclusion. Future studies of this nature should include measurements of (1) dietary soluble fiber, before and after blending, as blending may increase the soluble fiber fraction, and (2) peak serum insulin concentration, with the goal of understanding which foods promote hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia, to prevent the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes in healthy individuals.” www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9657402/

Ground Flax Seed - I eat 200% to 250% DV of fiber and drink 1 gallon of water daily. I also exercise regularly. Still, due to monthly changes in female hormones, my digestion sometimes slows down. Recently, during those times, I have tried increasing my daily intake of ground flax seed. That seems to do the trick. Apparently flax has a high percentage of the right kind of fiber. I hope this post helps someone. (Disclosure: Flax can cause gas, but gas is better than not having a BM or getting an anal fissure. Probiotics can help with the gas until your own flax digesting gut flora populates. Oh, also for less resulting gas, instead of consuming a large amount at one time, split it up throughout the day.)

Eating natto every morning before breakfast works marvelously. The bacteria aids in forming vitamin K2, dissolves miniclots, prevents atherosclerosis; is both a probiotic and a prebiotic.
