Omg heart in my throat. A girl at my studio was in class and the shank of her shoe snapped and she snapped her entire arch in her foot. So many broken bones and ligaments. Ended her career. She had just been accepted into a ballet company. 😢

Omg That must have been heartbreaking. The pain she must have felt, both in her feet and her soul
I’m going to have to watch Josephine review one of the Barbie movies after this, because I can’t let this be my last image of Josephine for my day. She deserves better.

Josephine, you teach more than proper pointe shoe fitting. You actually teach how to be *nice* to other people.. how to say something kind and come from a place of showing concern, rather than saying something mocking or mean. I saw the blurb about your brothers being bullied and that it led you to have a no bullying policy. I think we all need to learn that lesson from you.

There was a girl whose shoe came partly off during her performance at YAGP this year. She was trying to keep going but thankfully they stopped her and asked to her to leave the stage before she got hurt. Then she came back later and was able to dance again. I think all competitions should allow this rather that making a dancer try to continue with a damaged shoe.

Josephine, I'm in NZ and in my late 30's an I've always really liked ballet but never thought it was for me... But thanks to watching your content 24/7 while recovering from COVID-19, a month ago, I finally decided to give it a real go... And let me tell you, I've been (ballet) training, stretching and exercising every day (for hours) during the last month, and my instructor told me that it's time to get demi-pointe shoes, as she thinks my feet are strong enough and she wants me to achieve my goal of going on pointe (without EVER doing ballet in my life)! Thanks so much for giving me the inspiration and the courage to try ballet... My dream is to, next summer, fly over to the Bay Area and get fitted by YOU!!! Here's hoping, right?!
@thesparkypilot Жыл бұрын
I love this so much! I wish you the very best in your dancing and I really hope you get to meet Josephine! I'm left off with Ballet right as I was about to begin Pre-Pointe and just found a studio who is encouraging to adult dancers who want to advance past open classes.
@frankiefavero1666 Жыл бұрын
@@thesparkypilot thank you so much! I'm really glad that you found a place for you! I'm in Christchurch (South Island of New Zealand), and for some reason, there were plenty of studios that cater to adult dancers. I do two one-hour private lessons and attend two (and one hour each) adult open classes a week. It is super expensive and I cannot afford any more, so I do stretching and strengthening exercises at home, every single day...

I wish you both all the best. I teach recreational ballet classes at the University where I live. I have taught creative dance and ballet to students from age 2 to those in their 70s. I love teaching adult ballet because the dancers are there because they want to be. (No momma drama!). Btw- my ballet teachers danced with ABT, San Francisco Ballet, and studied with Balanchine. So bunheads, don’t disregard recreational ballet.

Second video sent me hard flashbacks as a former rhythmic gymnast…a russian rhythmic gymnast. You don’t want to be called “iron like feet” so we always walked like that to improve the arch. (Btw I quit cuz some girls dropped a heavy 6ft bench on my foot and it was broken to pieces

3:47 absolutely made me jump out of my skin, I am personally triggered. It wasn't pointe, but I did have a dancing-related incident where I broke the middle three metatarsals in one of my feet which you can only do by going completely over on your foot like in exactly that way but with weight on it. That was like 20 years ago. My entire being has left the stratosphere with this reminder regardless. Mine was just a cruel accident involving sliding on the stage floor, that person's shoes are like a horror movie in one image. Edit: Oh no, there was much more. Actually dying inside Edit: I honestly think it's worse to watch than to do. Like, was I also a nervous wreck watching that ballerina continue to dance like a pro with the one heel loose? Yes. Did I continue my dance to the end in the above story? Also yes. No one knew anything had happened until I finally got backstage and only at that point did I break down.

Oh Josephine, why did you do this? You poor girl! Those clips were horrifying! I'm not a dancer and I only started watching ballet a few years ago so I don't have very close emotional ties to ballet shoes. I was doing OK with the first few clips were they were merely abusing the shoes, although I know how I would feel if I saw people casually trashing and mutilating sports or music equipment I love dearly. 🥴 Then, the sudden cracking of the feet in hideous position started. 😳🫣😵💫Honestly, I couldn't finish the video. 🤢 Please don't do this psychological torture to yourself again! It's not necessary for entertainment purposes. It doesn't matter how much you cringe or don't cringe! You're such a consistently sweet and kind presence on KZbin and you should not be treated like this! The professional dancer with the needle in her shoe, does she have a KZbin channel? What is her full name please? Thank you for making the video, but honestly, please no more - for your sake!! 🙏🌸🫶❤

@3:10 : " _ make sure you don't have any kind of needles stuck in there. _ Huhh.. yeah girl ! " ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️ More seriously, I never had any blister when I was on pointe. I can't stand pain, so I had a big ritual, which included nail trimming, massages with a cream, streches, bandages on the first and second toes... And I would always wear thight or socks to let the foot slide in the shoe with no frictions, which wouldn't caused heat, then blisters. I never danced professionnally, but I would expect more care for the feet and body in all as your art grows with you. Am I missing something ?

I have a question: so until recently I never realised your toes were supposed to go straight down to the floor. I tried to adjust it, but my toes just... won't point like that? The bottom half does point, but I can't get my muscles/anatomy working with me on the upper half of my toes. So, it looks like a curve How bad is that? And can I fix it somehow?
@PoisonedApathy Жыл бұрын
Only People with hypermobility can do that. If your feet look pointed, you're fine. You can always do theraband exercises to improve toe strengh and fexibility.
@AD_AP_T Жыл бұрын
You should talk to your instructor about exercises to improve the flexibility and strength of your feet if you're unhappy with them, but you do *not* want to be able to do that - it's a hallmark of hypermobility, and it means you have to work extremely hard to train your muscles to do the work your ligaments are supposed to, it dramatically increases your risk of all injuries, especially dislocations and cartilage tears, and it often means you develop symptoms of osteoarthritis a decade or two before your peers. "Pretty" isn't worth that.
