Cool thing about the way you've implemented the economy is that it makes sense why they didn't play with it in the OG Card Wars episode - it was Finn's first ever time playing so Jake probably didn't want to use an "optional" mechanic to keep things simple for him.
@Drip_Wooper7 ай бұрын
I personally headcannon that Jake just doesn't use it because he doesn't like it, since we see that his style is full-agressive no-brainer (which gets him a lot of loses), while Jake cares a LOT about Finn (best brother fr) he gets kinda heated when its card wars, and he'd would 100% use it to beat Finn with it, no mercy whatsoever, I think he thought it was going to be easy af and just went monkey-mode for fun, no using extra mechanics, so he didn't set it up in the start and mid-way through the game it'd probably be kinda hard, since he was losing BAD

A thought: Instead of behavior cards, each character has a personality which represents what they do in certain circumstances. For example, the "wanderer" personality is like: "Whenever anyone rolls a dice, this card moves in a direction corresponding to the number rolled." This also fits well with the hexagonal cells, there are 6 dice numbers and 6 adjacent cells.

Really love things like the economy system you've been building, I play a lot of MTG and I love unorthodox win conditions. My deck is packed full of weird card combinations that lead to instantaneous wins lol In regards to card wars the way to increase the economy's relevance would probably be to build cards that hinge on that gameplay mechanic more than others. Thinking in terms of MTG and some of its unorthodox win combos here are a few examples: -there are special land cards called gates, there is a unique card that makes you win the game when having all the gates. Couple this with lots of cards that let you look thru the deck and you're bound to win -there are special cards that have extreme penalties for yourself, ones like "you take 20 dmg that cannot be avoided" or "you lose the game at the start of your turn". These are meant to be high risk/high reward cards but I like to use the Harmless Offering card to just give them to my opponent to deal with. -there is an indestructible voodoo doll creature that deals dmg to the opponent when it takes dmg, I like to couple it with big spells that deal massive dmg to everything on the board for max effect -there is a combo where you set up two cards, one that gives you hp when the opponent is damaged, and the other that damages an opponent when you heal, all that's left is to gain 1hp or deal 1 dmg to win All this to say that when making new cards you should also think outside the very systems you've been building. Not just for the sake of instant win conditions, but simply to open up that possibility. Having seemingly overpowered cards that either require you to build a whole deck around it or to find other obscure cards to combo them with is part of what makes games like this fun and I think it could work really well with card wars, especially with mechanics like the economy. Imagine cards that turn money into damage, or damage into money, or health in money, and so on and so forth. Or monster cards that let you spend money to buff them. Or buildings you can upgrade with money. Or perhaps it's tied to how the economy is doing? Maybe I build a deck designed to ruin the economy because all of my monters are thieves who get +1/+1 when the economy is low. And you build a businessman deck who gets special defenses when the economy is good!

Really awesome what you are doing here, love to see it. I would like to mention the possible element types that could be added based on what is mentioned by Cardwars media. Jake says there are a total of 16 in the show, but is cut off while mentioning them. The transcript manages to tell a total of 9 elements (Corn, Wheat, Blue, Crystals, Acumen, Torpor, Frozen Lakes, Lizard Holes, and Learning). The videogame has 6 (Corn fields, Blue plains, Nicelands, Sandylands, Useless Swamp, and Rainbow). The card game seems to have 1 extra compared to the videogame, but sounds pretty similar to frozen lakes (Icylands). So the best accumulated list of elements I got so far is... - Acumen ("Judgement.") - Blue - Corn - Crystals - Ice (I seperated Frozen lakes and Icylands into two distinct categories.) - Lake - Learning - Lizard - Nice - Rainbow (Neutral cards I believe) - Sand - Swamp - Torpor (Inactivity/Sluggishness.) - Wheat 14/16, and 2 left for the imagination. It really is up to you though. That was just the best list I could come up with.

I think you should def automate the card choosing (any suffle and discarding should happen automatically after you choose the cards) ig it would mean one of the cards you choose might only be in your deck later, but it would make deck choosing way faster (which is a good thing if you expect players to choose a deck every game without letting you save decks and choose them for quick games)

I'm not here because i love adventure time or card games. I'm here because i love game design, and i LOVE seeing people approach "difficult" or unusual ideas. What you made is by no means some odds-defying feat, but most other people would look at card wars and say it would be too complicated or cumbersome without even trying to work out some concepts. Even the official version doesn’t try very hard to emulate the game shown in the show. And i think your innovations here are great and that wherever you take this, you've definitely got a mind to make something great out of it. I'm immensely excited to try this. Thank you so much for your present and future contributions to the realm of recreation

Since there is a disparity in strength between some cards in the future you may consider give then a value when you are making a deck, for example you may spend 50 points to make an deck stronger cards like the tank(i don't remember the full name of the card) may use 5 points to put on a deck and weak ones like the bettle may use only one point in that way the decks will have cards with different strength like the maize walker and the bald man without being unbalanced. I'm sorry if my english is bad not mine first language.
@yurisei67327 ай бұрын
Nah point system in deckbuilding always sucks the fun out of it. Since decks are randomly generated anyway, you just need a rarity system that keeps the incidence of powerful cards down.

I think my least favourite thing about most board games is when my opponent takes ages to play their turn, and this would be even more of an annoyance in a fast paced game like card wars. I think to keep the game quick and more enjoyable you should either reward the players or punish the players based on the time spent before taking action or just adding a timer (like chess). Just a suggestion though let me know what you think!

I think having cards or types that play off of the discard pile/graveyard would be a great idea for how prevalent it is in the game, which could also help the flipping for money part of the game so those creatures being killed after making that money is less detrimental. I think the economy is my favorite aspect because it lets you get more cards while still having downsides which benefits this type of game well, I think having types that benefit off of money or auctioning and use it more than others would be quite interesting and I'm curious if you're still using the worker ability and what it does. Having certain types keep more prevalent abilities or a theme to them in general would be pretty awesome, and I think the randomness of it is amazing. One of my biggest gripes with a lot of card games is that it can be too easy to take advantage of insane combos and leave your opponent in the dust but having adjustable levels of random makes it so much more than just racing to the win. I love your stuff and the progress you've made is nothing short of amazing I really hope you can keep this going and I'm excited to try it out.

The Unpredictable Behavior feature, which is interesting, wouldn't be used in a game that is designed to be competitive, and especially not one where net gaining cards is rare. I recommend turning unpredictable behaviors into keywords, and putting them on creatures as an effect with a chance to happen for a die roll. These keywords would then be detailed in the rules. For example, a keyword "Lazy" with a chance of 6 would be, whenever you try to use the card, you roll a d6. If you roll a 6, it skips its turn due to laziness. But stronger cards with a harsher drawback might have a laziness of 4, meaning rolling 4, 5, or 6 would cause that card to become flooped or flipped. That's just one example of a keyword. This would add drawbacks to specific cards without disrupting your draws due to the rarity of net positive draws while keeping the random behavior mechanic. An alternative is giving these behavior cards "draw 1 card" on them, meaning they never disrupt your rare draws, but again, if you want the mechanic to be actually part of the game a not a mechanic no one uses outside decks that utilize it for some reason, tying them to cards might work better.
