What an amazing insight into a British institution. I remember my dad religiously watching the boat race every year and telling me about the rowers being some of the fittest men on earth. So I grew up never missing a race. What I hope makes you realise why the boat race is an institution. We’re from a northern town with no links to rowing, possibly beliefs that Oxford and Cambridge universities are only for elitists and the privileged. Yet my Dad a hard working miner said we had to watch the boat race as it’s part of our culture. Thanks for creating this channel, it reminds me of my dad.

i watched one of these videos yesterday and then went and did a 5k test. my first one! i dont think I did a good job pacing it and spent almost 9 mins in Z5 HR - which was lovely. time was 17:26 which I'm pretty happy with as a 43 year old . I can go faster though! thanks for the inspo! i think I would have liked rowing at uni. looks fun

props for doing it! 5ks are brutal. 17:26 is pretty good for any age. Was it close to an even split?
@XabiA112 ай бұрын
@@TomLynch248 im not sure what you mean, I'm not a rower (yet!) my fastest split was the first 500. 1.42. did that for the first 1500, did a slower middle bit 1:47 then 1:44s till the finish. all at 30-31 SPM . I quite like rowing at that SPM, if I go slower I'm faster but cant hang on as long.. really loving your videos man!! 🙂

@@TomLynch248 i dind twarm up either, so my first split 161 bpm haha came down to 140 for the next 1000m as I settled in a bit. then a steady climb up to 175 ave. peak was 180bpm which I guess might be close to what it will do these days. might have to try and do a max HR test or something
@TomLynch2482 ай бұрын
r30-31 is about right, my best ever was at r30. You could try doing it more even, so hold 1:45 for the middle, but that sounds like a great first go

@@TomLynch248 Thanks. I just went out from zero to hero and need the HR to come back down. maybe a more conservative start and try to build would work well.. or maybe I do a bit of a warm up haha. looking forward to trying again!!

This was great but at times the vocal audio is too quiet and gets drowned out by other audio
