Great beginners video even for someone who has been watercolor painting for 3 years. It's good to go back to the basics and you teach it so well! Thank you for sharing your talents.

Thanks so much Bill. I've watched many 'beginner's videos, only to find that the tutorial assumes a level of competence which is slightly daunting. Yours was truly inspirational!

I practised my first watercolor landscape using this video. I've been watching so many different channels and they seem to think "beginner" means basic level. I have zero level, haha... I have never owned watercolor paints or paper until a few days ago. I really enjoyed this tutorial. Looking forward to more videos. Thank you for sharing. 😊

Hi Bill, Lovely simple painting but still very efective. If ever you get a chance, could you do a video of a pretty in depth explanation of how to create the texture in expanses of lawn or short grass (like in your painting Portmarnock Golf Course County Dublin Ireland) and where to place the texture so it looks natural please? I know that I keep asking you these questions but you are one of the few people on here who actually listen to and try to help people who are struggling with certain elements of watercolour

Hi Colin, I Start with a light green wash and dry it. Then a darker wash adding in any variations in color before it dries too much. Then once dry use the dry brush technique(using the side of the brush) for tufts of grass and grass in shadows. Practice doing this on a spare piece of art paper first. The 300 lb Arches is best. You can try on 140 lb but bear in mind that weight dries much faster. I hope this helps. Experiment and practice and you’ll get it I’m sure. I'll try and incorporate this in a future video too.

Thank you for a practical, valuable starter. I'm much older, and trying to overcome a challenge - red/green difficulty. Attempting watercolor for the first time, I'm noticing/perceiving more colors than ever. My color vision may not be perfect but, I'm not going to let that hinder me. Maybe giving others some amusement along the way. It's all Art.

Hello! What are the perfect type of paper for watercolor paintings? 😅 I have noticed that whenever I try wet on wet my paper quickly absorbs the water and builds up the tiny paper idk. I am a beginner 😢😢
@letspaintwatercolors3 ай бұрын
Hi there, Arches is the one I use but Fabriano is also good. You need it to thick so you don’t run into the issues you are facing. 300lb rough is a good place to start. There’s a link in the description 👍

You will get there Alisha, practice is the key 🙌 Let us know if there is anything in particular you are stuck on and remember to practice elements on small bits of paper before tackling a scene 👍

I must have a different understanding of beginner. I'm not a painter getting into watercolor, I've never painted at all. "Neaten up the edges" with water or color really doesnt help me know what I'm doing. I end up with over-watered color and somehow also too much pigment
@letspaintwatercolors2 ай бұрын
My advice would be to use a spare piece of paper to test how much pigment is on your brush until you learn how to judge it by eye. You can also use a tissue to lift pigment off the paper or off your brush. I hope that helps and please reach out if you need any further help 👍 @jenjaynes8863
@letspaintwatercolors2 ай бұрын
I suggest using a spare piece of paper to test out how much pigment you have on your brush or use a tissue to lift excess pigment off the paper before it drys. You can also use the tissue to dab your brush on if you think you might have too much pigment. The use of added water on the cloud edges helps lighten the edges and give a more “fused” look. I hope this helps but please reach out if you have any other questions. Practice makes perfect! 👍
