hey Charles ! This is Michael from Barkett Berlin (..and so many other venues :) ). Nice channel! thanks for sharing :) I know that also in reaper you can put a plugin chain on your input signal, and so use compression and eq plugins and what not, while recording. cool stuff!! but latency is your enemy (sometimes) and that is not so with hardware .. its a good strategy to record like this because it needs a vision (or descision) of what you are going to record and how it should sound. - a choice made- , very mch like in live sound where you only have that one moment ... keep it up! chrzzz M

that's going to help your quality! But yes I know what you mean... it can be exhausting.

Hi Charles, The RME UFX+ interface has the option to record with compression and/or EQ. Their compressor is very high quality and I use it when I record vocals. Usually about a ratio of about 3.2:1 unless the vocalist has poor mic technique, then I may go as high as 5:1. Typically I only use the EQ to roll off frequencies below 20z, other wise I record the vocal as the artist actually sounds and do any EQ in post. Thank you for your thoughtful tutorials. Slim

thanks for sharing another interface that does this as well, appreciate that Ralph!

Good stuff Charles. In Logic this can be done all in the box as well, which I use all the time. You add the compressor to the mic in channel which is then assigned to a bus out. It is possible to record audio using the bus as your input. Your methods are sound. I just wanted to mention this.

how do you do that? I need to know that.. pleaseeeeeeeeeee.
@@JTFuller Pay attention to your audio buffer size when doing this. It should be low (132....even 64) and I would recommend using a compressor with a small CPU footprint. I use Logic Native for this and am happy with the results.

Thanks a lot. Very interesting and als helpful. My Apogee Boom could do that, I think, but I didn’t do that so far. Also the Antelope interfaces could do that. 👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻

I do send my vocals through a neve 1073 then into a purple MC77 then audio interface. Sometimes a LA610 for instruments. I do this in a subtle manner then add additional EQ compression in the end if needed

That sounds like an epic chain!

Hey Charles, I have the Apollo Twin. Recently I had a problem and had to reset everything. Could you perhaps make a video of your setup with the Apollo and your vocal? There are some videos on KZbin, but you explain everything so much differently.

Hi Nina, that's a great idea. I'll definitely do this.

So you're saying Logic's compressors won't work. Or any software compressor, for that matter?
@CharlesCleyn2 жыл бұрын
You can monitor with the logic software compressor
