I haven't seen this video until now. Feb 7, 2021. Most of the KZbin video are uploaded by Artist's Network, and I don't like to watch my own video. Today I watched for the first time. So many people asked me about several questions, but I haven't answered them. Generally, first, I pour three colors. Most important thing is let it dry completely. And one more important thing is you want to select the subject matter darker tone than pour. I did not use any gauche nor acrylic. The whiskers, white hairs in ears and eyes were masked with a frisket, and soft outline was scrubbed with scrub brushes. After that layers of colors were applied to get the shape of the cat, and create the short hair with a each brush stoke. It can be done when you have a patient. After the pour, I also applied a very light blue on the around the cat, too. Hope this explain to satisfy you.

Aronath Cordova you can paint a picture (like the cat) over the background after you let the spray paint dry 🙂 (sorry my grammar is not that good ^^)
@susanwhite8489
@susanwhite8489 7 жыл бұрын
Aronath Cordova she did not. This is a totally different painting. You cannot paint over something already existing, unless you block out the foreground, can't be done.

You can see with the Cat painting the background it is rather light in color. It is easy to paint a slightly darker subject over a light colored background. With a darker background like the example piece she created you would want to go in with a damp rag and lighten (rewet and remove color) the areas you want to put your main subject.
@MiaVox
@MiaVox 7 жыл бұрын
+SUSAN WHITE I'm not trying to be argumentative here but you are so incredibly wrong. I paint over "already existing" backgrounds constantly without blocking them out. I see other artists do the same quite often. Painting over a background like her example piece can be tricky because its a bit darker but it creates depth and interest to a painting. Watercolor isn't strictly translucent nor fully opaque but it can give the illusion of being opaque with layering and less dilution to cover darker areas. Not to mention you could just use watercolor for a background then use a different medium to paint your main imagery on top.

Guys watercolors are transparent medium, because the pigments are so finely grinded with compare to other mediums...we are not allowed to paint any light coloured subject on a dark background if you want to paint use guache( I guess this is how it's spells) or anything other medium, but not watercolor.

One more thing I want to mention is that you need secure the paper on a hard board that will not buckle. I attach in a ply wood. I used the Winsor & Newton cold pressed 140lb paper for the pour and the cat painting.

I like this technique. But it would have been nice to see how she incorporates it, or even if she decides beforehand what her subject matter wil be, like in the cat portrait she did. It was beautiful. I would assume she had to spray the center a lot to lighten the value for the portrait, as well as make it fairly solid.

I’m curious of this too. The value is beautiful but would be removing the lightest value from the paper. How do you do this and have something to work with afterwards?

It's possible that the "background" was just done around the cat when it was still drying, likely as Soon was getting her first or second layer done, which then either dried after the background was done or was not painted over again until it was mostly dry.

ayy i love doing stuff like this, it's really fun for abstract pieces bc you get to just work off of how the background and water had worked for you and your canvas. i did this for mini tag pieces for a-level with brusho inks and ahhhh its fun fun fun 😄😄😂

Undoubtedly intriguing & certain a technique to considerably shorten the time for producing a watercolour painting. My huge question regarding this technique, however, how is it possible to then paint your intended subject atop that & without picking up the foundational colours & inadvertently changing colours, shapes, etc?

Glad I watched this! I love how the paint turned into dendrite fractals as soon as it hit the water. If created using smaller drops and droplets they will look like little bushes and flowers as long as they are not touched, moved, sprayed, etc.

You should decide what to paint (subject) first so you can decide what color combination you'll use. Let the background dry a little (like 3/4) first then using a wet brush, wet the background according to the shape of your subject then put a paper towel on top so the paper towel will absorb the wet part. It might not be completely washed of but the color will be lighter. I think she used this method and for the eyes, she just used a thick consistensy of light blue and white. Just my opinion. Hope this can help.

hi , i really love how this is going to look different every time you use for the background ! i have a question tho , whenever i paint a backgroud first i let it dry completely but still , when i start painting the actual piece if i use light colors ,the background seem to seek through it ! and if i use the wet on wet technique the colors start getting mixed up together !how do i fix that ? or i'm supposed to start with light colors first and then do the background ? please answer my questions and thank you so much for the videos ! keep it up guys ❤👍💪
