Just for 411 sometimes this does not work with only one anti fouler and you need to drill out and thread a second one on. Worked eventually for my 05 TL, although sporadically the CEL comes on and goes away. Passed CA smog with it.

I installed foulers on our maxima and surprisingly it worked for 1-2 months. then the check engine light came back on. Passed smogged but glad we got rid of that car

I did this on my 03 mpv, it worked. I don't feel I am cheating because mazda made the the catalytic converters an integral part of the engine exhaust manifold pipes, the cost of replace the two exhaust manifolds would be over $2000. It is clearly a bad design, I don't feel I should bear the extra cost.

Just CLEAN UP the oxigen sensor that is it no need to put extensions, get sensor out, brush it (metal brush and soft frush), then submer it on muriatic acid for say 5, 10 minutes, brush it again and reinstall it.... problem solved.

@@bmffafo5004 notice I said "OXIGEN SENSOR" not catalytic and it works I have done it MANY times all the time works. Many sensors just get clogged with so much stuff and distort readings, take spark plugs for example, they "DO NOT" NEED to be changed, they just need to be cleaned and re use, the only time they need to be changed is when the catod/anode are damaged or corroded, otherwise plugs are just fine for clean up and reuse, it is as if you would use your underware only one time and keep on buying new underware for only one use, NO you just wash it and reuse it, same with plugs and MANY sensors, even catalytics of trailers can be cleaned up and reuse, same catalytic untill they are completely depleted, there are businesses that make a living doing that.

It is not only cheating it's a violation of Federal law dude. Don't take my word, look it up. Changing any part of the approved Members sions system in order to augment the CO 2 reading is violation Federal Law 1984, 5,000.00 fine if you are caught. And a sharp tech will see it on a OBD2 scan. The information is stored in the ECU has a hard Data set, and can not be erased. Unplug bear it with a hammer, and a year later the Feds can still read the data of where and when it was changed. It's called OBD2 Mode 10. Not everyone knows what it's for. US called in all OEM around 2010 said "we know they are messing with the emissions, cutting cats, dummy sensors, Tuners. We want it stopped." OEM came back and said Here is Mode 10. It's to insure the Feds can track back to people breaking their law. For us, it doesn't allow any shop to lie and say they fixed the problem, because the ECU will self diagnose and send the code.

I'm getting ready to do this on my 2002 Toyota Camry XLE V6 but I also found out the alternator is going out and you did say the battery is weak and that can throw everything out of whack because of the electrical system is very sensitive on these cars and will cause them to throw codes.

Nein, the battery has nothing to do with catalytic converter efficiency.

You’re running rich, probably ur catalytic converter is clogged, unclogged ur catalytic converter, soak ur 2 o2 sensors into WD-40 and clean them off with a clean shop towel, Then put back your o2 sensors and also replace your pcv valve, also your idle is low because your pcv valve is stuck closed and is probably clogged by carbon build up 😅 good luck 👍

couldn't it also be a worn o2 sensor itself? diagnosing bad catalytic converter vs oxygen sensor are always sketch. I simulate a rich and lean condition(i.e starting fluid and vacuum leak) and watch the oscillation rates and compare with manufacturer data if available and such. still better to try a $120 oxygen sensor on than a $2K cat Lol idk

Disagree it could, be sensor 2 is no longer teading right. To determine that uou have typ chevk its impedence or know the proper oem specified range. It could be the cat. Dont you know how to test a catalytic function. Get an IR thermometer from parts store. You can get the temp spec by Google. Drive it a couple miles then test temp while running. A short cut is to measure temp before and after cat, the temp after cat should be higher. If not the cat is malfunctioning**** Cats are made well gor the life of the car. If you get a p0420, the question a good techjnician asks is why.? What system has caused the cats early death. Because thats a problem that needs fixed.

A little extra money and they all pass smog checks in California, even if they smoke. Especially with all the CAT thief's recently most people run without them to avoid spending a lot of money to just get stolen again.

New cars they made the computers too smart, if the computer doesn't see what he is expecting to see the computer does different test like intentionally will spray more fuel and will monitor both Oxygen sensors and if the second O2 sensor is too off it will set the P0420 it might take the computer longer to set the code but eventually it will set that p0420, I did the test myself and I am an auto mechanic for 30 years, the corporations they corner you to replace the catalytic, unless you can break into their program then you need to know about computer language like C++, Java, Paithoon, then how you gonna brake in to the program itself that's a tough job very tough, so it's like more economic just to buy the part and replace it it's becoming harder and harder to play with those things because you need to know computer language. You know those program writhers are very cleaver they are there to protect their job they are not gonna give access to an outsider to their program even top official at Honda Toyota GM Ford don't have access, they are protecting their job with two feet thick iron gate. and all the rest of us are screwed.

Hektor, You are an excellent mechanic, but I think making this particular video in my opinion was a bad idea. As a mechanic whom I would assume works for repudiable shop, you should not be suggesting short cuts and band aides to the public. the general public is your shops potential customer base, as such, suggesting shortcuts and quick fixes looks bad for your company, myself as a consumer would rationalize it as " if one mechanic uses short cuts at this shop who's to say they all don't, and maybe this isn't a shop I should go to if I want my vehicle repaired properly" just a thought.
