Thank you,Malcolm! I feel that this type of practising would be really very useful for me. I hate trying ,always start impatiently and want a definitive result as soon as possible. Of course ,the result is not always good. I'll start right now and I will not call it "trying" but "study"😀

Thank you Malcom. I like your description of this phase in painting: testing out shapes, colors, brushwork and getting to know one's subject. Together with a few initial sketches/value studies this painting study phase encourages a more planned approach to painting. As always, I appreciate your valuable recommendations.

This is such a great demo, thank you! I would love to see how you progress, with this study, to the next stage of a more finished painting. And, I'm almost finished your Painterly Landscape workshop - it has so much info and I'm really enjoying it.

Thank you Malcolm. Can you please do an instructional video on how one should dispose and clean oil painting brushes/palette and any remaining oils ? I have heard that oils and thinners are toxic and should be disposed properly for environmental reasons. Thank you.

That is another wow lesson Malcolm, I learned a lot there again. What a fantastic way to fit in more painting practices in a given number of days. Many thanks for uploading. I just had a quick question. If you were to do an actual plein air painting of the same scene, would you generally plan, to have the outdoor work look more/less finished than the type of painting study you just demonstrated? Just so I can get an idea of how resolved, I would need to aim my own efforts towards, when attempting a painting outdoors.
@MalcolmDewey2 жыл бұрын
Plein air can be planned well if you are in a calm environment. However in a tough one, like a windy beach, I will paint faster and do a loose study. It can get hectic at times so you take what you can get.
@theponderingpilgrim43422 жыл бұрын
@@MalcolmDewey Thanks Malcolm for your insights, they are much appreciated. Yes I see what you mean, outdoors painting all kinds of things happening as you mentioned weather, insects etc, outside of one's control. I guess, any reasonable result in those conditions, would be a win-win. Regards Andrew

Thank you Malcolm, this is such a lovely study, in my mind it looks like a finished painting😀 I consider all my paintings studies. When do you call it “Finished”? Is it the finer details that make it finished?
@MalcolmDewey2 жыл бұрын
Yes, many layers and developing color richness. But does not guarantee success of course. Just gives direction.
