My name is Isaiah Rivera and I have the highest officially tested vertical on the planet at 50.5 inches and am the co-founder of THPstrength, a company that focuses on vertical jump training for athletes.
What makes me a little different from most athletes that jump high is that I started with a pretty low vertical and documented my entire journey on this channel. Here is my journey in a nutshell:
14: Started working out to jump higher for basketball
16: Hit my first dunk and shortly after found out about the world of pro dunking
17: Trained like a madman and hit my first between the legs dunk
18: Entered my first professional dunk contest
19: Knee pain almost made me quit dunking
20: Met my coach John Evans, who helped me get rid of knee pain
21: Won my first international dunk contest
22: Tested a 48 inch vertical and started coaching full time
24: Tested a world record 50.5 inch vertical
The reason I make so much free content about jumping higher now is because it’s a resource I wish I would’ve had when I was in high school that would’ve prevented a lot of unnecessary mistakes and injuries.
My mission is to share my passion and love for dunking and training and to make dunking an officially recognized sport.
I hope that I can be an inspiration for your jump training and dunking journey,
Isaiah

Have you ever thought about training with a weight vest specifically for plyos? Or low rimming with one? I could see the potential especially in a session if you warm up with a vest than do your actual jumps without, but it probably with present a higher injury risk.

6:20 : shows you how good the Maasai are at jumping. They might have the highest vertical in the world if they use their arms and momentum.

if you are a beginner you have to use dumbbells to start, these are a lot harder than it looks. He makes it look easy.

Should I replace this with my normal plyo workout (Box jumps, squat jumps, weighted approach jump, etc)? I am 6'5 190 and can touch backboard with my head.

I was looking at programming these for myself in an upcoming phase, I then log on and see you destroying my concept of reality jumping around with 315🤯How do you determine appropriate load for this? I’m assuming 3-5x3, say I test 1RM at 405 on a trap bar deadlift for example. 🤔

I have some info you and John may find usefull. It's about fatigue. Strength /neural drive will fatigue in stages/levels. 1st fatigue is fast concentric, followed by slow concentric to Isometric and finally eccentric. That means it's not uncommon to lack/fail at concentric power but still be able to lift heavy and slow or lower super heavy. Basically central fatigue happens from rigth to left in the force-velocity curve.

Have either of u guys ever worked with a client that was low body fat extremely strong in the weight room with good form that runs extremely fast with plus agility and great lateral movement but a below average two foot jump was in college with a very explosive 385 squat 470 high handle trap 20+ neutral grip pull-ups could easily push over a grand and consistently walked backwards with 400+ pounds almost daily but i can’t jump high at all off two standing or running when I actually train I can grab the rim within a month of jumping but stopped because I feel being a one foot jumper can make u slower I’ve never been measured on the trap jumps but feel I was generating similar power to Isiah I mean this question could be simple I was obsessed with sprinting like rivera is with jumping so maybe I simply didn’t jump enough but I feel like I should have been able to throw it down pretty easily with how hard I could run the fast break I’m not training hard at the moment I just fealt like when I was I should have been dunking easily

@ it’s a true mystery anyone who saw me run the floor asked if I could dunk it could be that i have super long legs for my height with super long quads and low knees so my vertical force power translates to sprinting speed better than a jump I did the ben Patrick program until I noticed the atg split squat was making me slower at a certain point great program tho I had great ground contact time as well from depth and drop jumps I have no doubt if I practiced one foot jumping all the time I could easily get to a nick briz level on one foot within a couple years I just don’t see the point as a non basketball player seems like a great way to guarantee an uneccasary injury it could be the way my knees are angled for running speed rather than vertical these stats are when when I was 22 at a college of idiots who prefer skinny weak kids and fat kids on steroids lining up on the outside instead of 183 pounds of pure speed power and entertainment and I could have sworn the ncaa was a business but I’m 23 now numbers definitely down coming off a hip problem so I just wanted to know if they have had any unique scenarios working with a high level athlete who needed some particular exercise to break through
