Great tip! Try using the hook point to poke a small pilot hole where your screw lock will go, makes them easier to start.

Another fisherman that loves a good screwlock jigs!! Now that's my choice too. They are just more reliable about keeping your bait where it needs to be. You use the exact same baits I use. I make my own jigheads and yes they are all screwlock. I like football heads and ball shapes. I also pinch off the small claws in clearer water and occasionally I'll load one with a glass rattle to really make them hit hard. Thanks for sharing

Missle Baits is definitely a must!!! John Crews is one of my favorites. He's releasing a sweet new finesse jig that is going to be one to pay attention to. That Mini D Chunk is a sweet addition to his arsenal as well

I've been using the Savage Gear 4d craw on a shakey for the last couple years but instead of cutting the tail section I simply bend it over and screwlock into the back of the bait with the tail section curled under. It looks great in the water but I typically haven't thrown it in January, I'll give it a try.

Kevin, shhh. My go to year round shakie head is a Missile Baits head or the Picasso Rhinohead with a 4” SK Menace, some variation of green pumpkin. Missile baits 3/16 or 1/4 oz shakiehead is great in rocks and wood (laydowns or brushpiles). Most of the time I prefer on spinning, but I do fish the 1/4oz on a 6’10” Med Expride with 10-12lb Sunline Sniper. Unless I’m fishing in big chunk rocks, I fish the Picasso Rhinohead usually in 3/16oz. Great rig for pressured fish.

Do you have any hook up issues with that much plastic on the Picasso head? I've tried this with a beaver style bait and I have a mental block when it comes to hook sets because of how much plastic is between the bend of the hook and the point.

Not really. I should have mentioned it’s even better on the Smallies beaver. I’ve caught some really big bass on the shakedown especially with a Mag Trickworm
