As always, great lesson Coach Simon! The explanation was perfect and very easy to pick up. I tried these techniques on court, and they work amazingly! Thanks a lot!

Why can’t coach Simon slow down his serve examples (slow motion) so we can see the visual from his lectures?

Visualising the serve before you actually serve That's a great point. Will try to do so.

Making sure to keep the tossing hand up and tossing high enough will also help prevent serves from going into the net. The sidespin serve is fairly easy to hit and gives good net clearance.

My biggest struggle now is to hit the ball cleanly in the center. A good toss and keeping the eye on the ball longer help but when I use more spin I often frame the serve

Dropping the head too early is a major problem for many players. I do it myself sometimes when tight. Tracking that ball coming off the strings is key 🔑

Great lesson Simon. I am using a platform stance and generally following the Sampras checkpoints of rocking the weight back and forth: (1) Start with weight on front foot, (2) Shift all the weight to back foot, (3) Raise the tossing arm and heels and "sit" on the imaginary chair just in front of the baseline. The first two steps work fine but not clear on the third step. When I "sit" on the chair, where should I think of the weight being distributed? Weight mainly on the back foot? Mainly on front foot? Or is weight about evenly distributed on both feet?

hi Simon! Thanx! i have a question: how do you toss in the direct sunlight?
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial2 жыл бұрын
You can adjust the toss slightly, either to the right or left, you can also use the tossing hand to block it when you reach the trophy position

What about the toss? I feel the toss is 80% of serve consistency! If the toss is off, you can do everything else correct and the serve won't go in.
@tomsd86562 жыл бұрын
A couple of things I experimented with and found helpful for me with the toss. You want to be smooth and relax during the toss, and to do that you can use breathing. Inhale as you toss and exhale as you swing, but breath in a relax manner, not force. Secondly, I align the tossing arm with where my front foot point, and usually, it points toward the net post, so I guess you can use the net post to align your tossing arm. Thirdly, you release the ball at eye level, so my trick is I look at the spot where I am supposed to release the ball. Of course you also have to do all the other things, like keeping the tossing arm straight, having smooth movement up, holding the ball in your palm the right way, and open up the palm at point of release the right way, etc... I am not touching these because they had been taught many times by many coaches.

The toss is definitely key to a consistent serve. On e of my favorite tips for a consistent toss is to think of releasing the ball up instead of throwing it up to contact point.

Hi Simon, When I’m practicing my serve I have no problems, but when I’m serving in a match I tend to accelerate in my mechanics (due to the pressure) and then I lost my rythm in my serve, How can I solve this?
@Better_Call_Raul2 жыл бұрын
Hi Simon, I am getting 60-70% First serves in. Basically try to get the first serve in hard to the backhand on the Ad side and accidentally hit the aggressive yellow target shown at 5:02 about 4 times a match. To be clear, I am not aiming at that aggressive target -- just aiming generally to opponent's backhand side. It is almost always an ace. I thought it was just luck but then noticed that most other players at my level never hit that spot. Does this mean I likely have some innate ability that can be developed with practice to hit this target more often and on purpose? Or perhaps I should just be content with getting the random five aces a match. Also note that if I try to intentionally hit that corner area it almost never happens. 😆
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial2 жыл бұрын
Without seeing that serve it’s impossible for me to say, but it sounds as though you should develop it more and use targets in practice 👍

Mindset is the most. What really helps is rating your serve (motion, technique) on a scale from 1-10 no matter if it’s in or out. You’ll notice that you get away from frustration over faults or low percentages immediately.
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial2 жыл бұрын
I presume in practice but not on matches?
@theypeedonmyrug2 жыл бұрын
You can try in matches likewise. Many players just get too easily annoyed when rate drops below 50-60 percent and perceive it as „none“.
