I see this as a great creative affect actually and also does help to humanise the baselines as I play bass and no two notes are the same length or the same volume….. but putting that random note on random one and tipping up to fulltilt really makes a great preset you could do amazing sounds of that

Another valued trick is to duck the bassline’s low frequencies with the kick drum, while leaving the high frequencies untouched 🔊-🎸

@LozzMusic_Ай бұрын
@@morris_deyou can use either shaperbox 3, volumeshaper or kickstart 2 with the kick sidechain input to see the kick shape and using the multiband function. Or you can use any multiband compressor that allows for sidechain inputs on single bands

On ableton I simply change them to wave and manipulate them from there using envelopes and then add different automations to it. I've heard it that a lot top guys do something similar.

thanks I’ll try to set it up in Alchemy load alchemy. load the modulator FX plug-in. Click the learn button on the modulator. Click the sustain button on alchemy. Set the wave shape to random
@KOSMIKFEADRECORDSАй бұрын
you lucky logic users... I'm a god at alchemy... or at least alchemy used to let me create godly things... allowed me to max out my sound designing... well that was back when i still had a windows version that worked. The fact you can make multiple scenes and morph between them and the fact that you have scaling for your mods... its stupidly underrated. You think of me next time you fire up that baby and do it for the ones who cant!

Seems to be overcomplicating sustain. Just play the notes as you want them to be - if you want them longer play them longer. Using velocity to determine sustain length seems a bit weird - staccato notes for example are often played with emphasis ie high velocity. Mapping velocity to sustain would contradict ie break that. Why not use modulation if you have to map something to sustain?
@KOSMIKFEADRECORDSАй бұрын
like he does it has effect on filter not just length.. its adding dynamics without automation... you can obvs make random lengthts... but this also changes the TONE
@KOSMIKFEADRECORDSАй бұрын
and obvs.... you can go insane and randomise other tonal things like waveshape and distortion and add velocity to things like eq peak or lfo depth etc...
@AutPen387 күн бұрын
I sometimes add randomness automation inside a synth plugin if that plugin has a non-standard effect inside it (e.g. its own distortion or flanger) but for things like note lengths and velocities, I much prefer using the DAW. I should think that all modern DAWs have "humanise" controls that allow you to create random fluctuations in midi parts, and if you apply those "grooves" destructively, you can of course tweak the lengths and velocities right fhere in the piano roll if something sounds too extreme.

That is indeed the most difficult thing of playing bass, to play clean and sustained notes all the time. You'll hear what i mean if you listen to a upright bassplayer in Jazz music

this is mainly for producers, the listener won't even notice, and I meant the part where you said/showed the "overkill part", showing 4 tracks of automation....🤦♂ for just the bass lines, also the 2 middle ones are very minute details that is just over the top and unnecessary.
@svensvensson8102Ай бұрын
They won't consciously notice, but many small details will add up to big results. Those modulations are a replacement for automation.
@jonnyk2091Ай бұрын
@@svensvensson8102 Sure, whatever you say.
@KOSMIKFEADRECORDSАй бұрын
I agree! you need to do it in ways that are effeciently making an audible difference without soloing to max out emotion.... if its tooo subtle it doesnt make any sense...You need to stay effecient and not fool yourself! but still the principal is good to make shit expressive and dynamic if you want to ensure emotional participation.
@jonnyk2091Ай бұрын
@@KOSMIKFEADRECORDS Yup! It seems like the internet space makes people dumb. In some ways there SOME points that are good but not ALL are good. "Oh a YT with x amount of subs, IT MUST BE TRUE!" 🤦♂ critical thinking is out the window.
