For me this is one of REM's best songs live or otherwise . A number of alternatives of this great track. All good for me the period 83/89 was the best time of REM

id go from Chronic Town to Document being flawless....then with Warner came the necessity of accessibility. There were still gems to be found, but nothing like the tear from 81-89

The fact that the description for this video says that "R.E.M. WAS an American rock band from Athens, Georgia..." is absolutely accurate, but patently depressing....and makes me feel old...

Beautiful song, to be sure, and this is a good version despite the fact that Michael is pretty flat here. What I like about the “Chronic Town” version is that unlike most Michael Stipe vocals, the one on the EP is quiet and practically falsetto. Michael’s baritone is amazing, and it was nice to hear that he had other styles too. Like the rest of the band, he had wonderful variety.
@adrianherrera98814 ай бұрын
I actually love that Micheal sings the first verse flat because it shows how amateur-ish they were in the beginning.

Not true. We knew REM in 1985. Murmur came out in 1983. Reckoning in 1984. If you were in college in the early 80’s, you knew this band.

@@connerfr -not everyone was in college. as of yet, they still hadn't Mainstreamed. hence - Warner Bros., and - the beginning of the end - IRS had been the REAL R.E.M. - with Warner Bros., they were just a skeleton of their former greatness - even Bill said - "so long" - goin' back home - gonna buy me a farm - have fun guys - they tried - but Bill proved to be a REAL band member - not "just the drummer" - a true part of their creative process - and the REAL R.E.M., was no more - the new R.E.M. - Michael's version - not as good - sometimes, the truth can be painful - and since, Michael has "come out", with his recent appearance on the red carpet with world-renowned Satanist Marina Abramovic, his bud, as a worshipper of Satan himself - not the 80's anymore - some people will even "sell their soul to Satan", for a buck and a few hand-claps - SO sad

Matt William I’m certain you are trying to say something profound and make yourself sound important. My point was simple, the people at this club knew REM. They were well know with college aged people going to clubs in 1985. They weren’t just “a band”. I was providing context to your original comment. Nothing more. Nothing controversial. Nothing combative.
