OMG, Comete is a BEAST! I finally pulled the trigger on a small bottle because I felt like it was a frag that wears me rather than the other way around but I wanted to get to know it. One of my friends said she could smell me from about 200 metres away! I find it intriguing and it has lots of layers and complexity. It's one to take your time learning and savouring. Very aldehydic, feminine, sweet and yes, ethereal but also very strong and long lasting. Goes into the next day.

It lasts a good long time on me too for sure! I did find it quieter on me though, but projection and longevity are somewhat dependent upon where and how you spray, so that might explain that. It's really a lovely fragrance 🥰

I love Cometè, it’s extremely feminine, even girly, and very approachable for a Chanel. Soufflot is my type of gourmand! I wanted the tobacco to be a bit more prominent, but it really is the epitome of an autumn scent. Sweet enough but never cloying and not artificial to my nose. I’m loving it. Thank you ❤️ Comète is really interesting because it's different in that it's sweet and approachable but still distinctively Chanel, it's a good balance between the two and clever on their part. I agree, I was looking for the tobacco and not finding it 🤷‍♀️ the opening was lovely and yes, totally pumpkin spices style and very autumnal! Have a lovely weekend 🥰

I tested Äican on a video this summer and it was straight up orange juice and pine needles to me! I didn't get much sweetness, it was more of a realistic fresh unsweetened orange juice, or an orange segment if you squished in in your hand ..and then fell on an evergreen tree 🌲😆 Great video! 🫶🏻

They're worth trying! Soie Malaquais got a lot of love, but there are others that are worth sniffing too. Kajal are really ambroxan heavy a lot of the time, if that doesn't bother you and you like fruity, then those are also worth trying. 😊 Thanks for watching 🥰

Hi Claire. Comète is a great new release. It’s sweet and powdery but with the unmistakeable No.5 aldehydes. Probably not a full bottle for me, but I really enjoyed it. 😊

It could be interesting to compare Epona with Naomi Goodsir's Corpus Equus, which is almost a complete 180 degrees from your description of Epona. Naomi Goodsir describes Corpus Equus as a "tribute to a fiery and impetuous horse." Notes are: rose, amber, birch, cedar, incense, leather, musk, patchouli, smoked wood. Described as "a deep black animalistic composition, with assertive leather notes." My favorite rose scent from Guerlain (and my favorite rose scent overall) is the classic Nahema. Top notes are "Peach and Passionfruit; middle notes are Rose and Hyacinth; base notes are Sandalwood and Patchouli." I confess I haven't tried any of the new releases in 2024:)

Thanks Claire! I've sampled Neroli Plein Sud and although I'm not a fan of neroli/orange blossom, I found it pleasant, but not for me. My 2 favorites of 2024 are Chloe Vanilla Planifolia & House of Bo Casa Blanca.

Thank you for the reviews of all these newer releases. I am looking for a dark, dry rose so I may have to give Rose Amira a try. Love POAL but it’s a bit too strong for me. Perhaps this might work better for me as it’s a lighter scent.

Same! POAL is a wow, but just too much for me. The two scents go in different directions in the drydown but it's worth trying the Guerlain. It does evolve quite a bit but quite late on, I tried it three times and each time it surprised me 😅

I’ve really enjoyed watching your channel and love your science videos. I have a question which I wonder if you could answer in a video. I seem to not like or dislike notes but instead like or dislike brands. I know many brands use the same groups of perfumers so I don’t understand why I would like a fragrance by Vilhelm perfumery (for example) that if the same notes were by another brand I might not like them. Are you aware or reasons for this?

Thank you! ❤️ I don't really know for sure, but different brands use different materials and different manufacturers (e.g. Givaudan, Firmenich, Robertet) so will have different patented ingredients available also. They also have different budgets. If you've seen my video titled 5 fragrance brands I love, 5 I don't understand, for me it's usually something to do with ingredients I think... Especially ambrox derivatives. I call them all ambroxan but of course there are loads of different types of that kind of aromachemical and some are pleasant for me and some really aren't! Hope that helps! 🥰

I've got to try that New Zealand fragrance. I love unique fragrances. I've tried several fragrances - Sira Indes, Escada Incredible Me, Carven, Lou Lou (reformulated), Piguet Oud, and Calypso. All are very good, but what I am adopting as my signature scents I'm not listing, as I like to be original and don't like to smell like anyone else. The ones I've picked for signatures are from the same classic French perfumer though, and are more commonly worn in France. Calypso is very soft, so I will mix that with something else, like a BDK Vanilla Tonka or Annick Goutal Vanilla Amber. I mix the Sira Indes too with vanilla.

I think layering is the way to get something unique for sure but yes, secret signature fragrances are quite another thing! 😂 One Way Bridge are truly unique, if you appreciate anise and tuberose, Date with a Dame is a lovely choice. 🥰

I've not tried very many of these. Comete I smelled in store and the opening reminded me of Belle de Grasse, maybe the heliotrope? Mono Cachemire I think I was a bit underwhelmed but I can't honestly bring the scent to mind. Aican was very fruity and bold, not my style. I am trying to think back what 2024 releases I have tried... Cedre Figalia from Atelier Materi that was very nice. Honestly the one that has stuck with me most is the new APOM by MFK, and I cannot stop thinking about it. I keep smelling the card and it is still going strong! Claire, what's the worst release you have smelled this year? Anything that has made you really go eww? Mine was The Language of Glaciers by Imaginary Authors but the Charlotte Tilbury ones were also rather disappointing.

I can get that with Mono cachemire, I'm not sure how they could have altered it, but that scent profile has been done better and also cheaper... Although I think Glossier You had now been reformulated. And yep, Aican just wasn't for me. But if people want fruity and woody and punchy and don't hate ambroxan, then that is the one. I need to go try APOM. I will go to Harvey Nichols 😊 Err worst release this year, that's hard... I think the Charlotte Tilbury fragrances were a low point, because of the pricing as well... But probably the worst for me must be some of the new Creeds and actually some of the cheaper designers should probably be in there too... Although I'm struggling to think which I've blanked from my mind right now 🤣 I know you hated that Imaginary Authors fragrance! I remember that!

They really were awful weren't they, especially Reef and Bacardi Breezer. Smirnoff Ice used to give me really bad pain in my shoulders for some reason, like a trapped wind! I can't wait to hear what you think about APOM. I really just want to buy a bottle but the price is so ouch, especially since I will soon need to replace my Petit Matin, and that one is a non negotiable. Yes, Language of Glaciers. In my head I wanted to love it because of the name and the bottle and that whole vibe, but the scent was truly not for me 🤣

Well did you see how fast Lizzie made her way through a 125ml bottle, it's insane! Lizzie likes softer fragrances but I think that tells you everything... It did last ages on me though! I have a sample of another few from Dries Van Noten but I've not got to them as yet. I think they have a nice range that is relatively interesting from what I've tried. 🥰

@dcjimr1 I'm not sure! Lizzie bought a bottle (new?) then decluttered it, then rebought one secondhand, so it might not have been full but she certainly used a good chunk in not very long. She said she uses it as a base for other fragrances, spraying that first before she decides what to wear pretty much every day.

Hey there, Miss Claire! Excellent vid as always😊. If I may, I have a video idea for ya'.. As a collector, I constantly struggle with (deceptively strong) fragrances. For example, perfumes like Baccarat Rouge 540, Oud for Greatness, or just fragrances I easily go nose-blind to, ( sometimes immediately it seems like), and so I then "go ham" because of it, to later find out that I'm choking people out, and it's honestly quite embarrassing.. Do you think that'd be a cool content idea? Maybe offer some tips on how to properly handle those types of frags? Thanks ! Keep rockin'😉

One of those was already a "Hell, no" for me at the mention of Erba Pura. Your description of the alcopops' night out will now stay with me every time I smell this scent profile. I stopped drinking those after a really good night out morphed into a friend needing to call a GP out to me the next morning (on a Sunday) due to the worst migraine I've ever experienced in my life. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. The image fits completely with some people who review that one positively. 😂

It's weird but here cherry blossom is not really used as a typical fragrance. The only version I've smelt is from the Body Shop. I have cherry trees lining the road I live on, but they don't smell at all! It must be only particular species or maybe a fantasy note? 🥰

It certainly is very ethereal and wears close to the skin, but quite long lasting at the same time. I mentioned in your last video that I’d ordered Violet Ida, it’s arriving in the post today so I’m looking forward to that one. Sending more warmth & sunshine from Australia! @ Ohh Chester, it’s so so beautiful! ♥️ I visited the UK first time in 2013 & again in 2014. Such a magical place, it’s so very green! Very different to our hot, dry country. The UK, being so much older than Australia, has some amazing history. Dearly love to live over there but I have a severely disabled adult son so we have to live here. (my hubby emigrated here in 2015) Still awaiting delivery of Violet Ida, it was another one that arrived yesterday….so still waiting (im)patiently. ☺️

Hopefully you can visit again. It is indeed very green in parts. Cheshire especially with its history of being an area important in butter and cheese production because of the natural high salt content in the grasslands there. I've always wanted to visit Australia, it's on my long list for a tour. 🥰

Yes the DvN bottles are beautiful 🤩 and for sure, I guess EA Blue Grass was all about the outdoors and horses in a way, although perhaps not quite as literal with the fragrance. Lovely though! 😊

Oh thank you! I've had iron deficiency and my hair has been very dry and frizzy, now 9 months on from supplements, it's finally looking vaguely like it used to and is soft again! I'm loving it even if it does what it wants 🤣 curly hair is uncontrollable...

Galbanum is green, astringent and bitter afaik, your description makes sense. Tbh the performance issue being so obvious at that price point is definitely not a good thing - curious to test as well!

Yeah I never ever got the hype for Lamar, it was one of the first niche fragrances I ever tried back in 2021 and I just felt like I didn't enjoy it at all. I should revisit my sample now I have more experience and see if I get the vibe with it that I get from Aican. 🥰

Forgotten Highway is so interesting, isn’t it? People describe certain notes as Grandma smelling, and to me the opening is a Grandpa perfume, in the best possible way. It’s so herbal - that green sharpness like aftershave almost. Then the honeyed nutty notes with lavender smooth it all out. I had to wear it a few times to come around on it. I have not yet come around to Comête. I’m still annoyed it’s named after a comet? Dramatic night sky? And it smells like tiktok millennials with that out of nowhere cherry blossom accord… I can’t. Oh Chanel. 😅 Awesome reviews!

Yes Forgotten highway has a lot of texture to it! And is sweet. I get the kinda grandpa vibe in a very pleasant way ☺️ comforting and reassuring. Comète shocked me with its sweetness. I agree with you, the name doesn't fit and it is likely Chanel targeting a younger audience. 🥰

Hi Claire! I love the pea shoot 🫛 description, it's a very distinctive smell 🥰 Thanks for the comparisons, it really helps me to understand how a fragrance smells.. I'm happy to stick with L'Extase Rose Absolute over the Guerlain, especially with the rose fading away in the drydown.. and, like you said, the price! Yes it's so much better to test a fragrance at home as opposed to in store! Mono Cachemire has been on my sample wishlist for ages and I haven't been able to find it!! Thanks for the comparisons! 🙏🏼 Now if I can't locate it, at least I have a good idea of how it smells!

I really like L'orchestre Parfums from what I've tried so far, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Mono Cachemire, it's just not that distinctive to me, but really still very nice! The Guerlain was only like L'extase rose absolue for the first few seconds, but the resins really amped up as it dried down. I quite enjoy trying crazily expensive fragrances 😂 even if I have no intention of buying any of them! The Olfactive O fragrances are really reasonable though and also One Way Bridge. 🥰

Good day Claire Well i didn't hate that DVN one, it was very green wasn't it and yes bitter. Then for me in the dry down meh. I need to sniff Apona it does sound very nice. Horses brearh sounds nice. The Rose one was nice but wasn't a love from me. Not bad at all tho. Yea Comet was OK, wasn't my favourite ever, a bit dull but absolutely nothing to dislike at all about it. Not sure I'd love the MH one it sounds a bit like a very modern one. The L'Orchestre sounds OK I guess apart from maybe the cashmeran. Citrus from OO is a nice one, it has something about it thst makes it very enjoyable compared to the usual citrusy stuff. Yes Lamar is the big one. We can't love them all. Yasmina is my fave. Yes Aican is a very fruity one. I remember Reefs. I had Apollo 🤣 allergic to Africa Yes OWB are incredible. This was one that really grew on me too. Yes I've no idea what a lot of the things are 😂 I know I wanna smell NZ tho. Hmm Neroli... I do doubt I'd love this one. Thanks Claire it's almost like a miracle to see a video of new releases that aren't hyped to heck or aren't the "greatest ever ever releases" PR. Appreciate videos like this. The MH was fine until the drydown then it was a big old no from me. I don't think I like Orcanox if that's what that smell was 🤷‍♀️ I need to sniff it in something else to be sure. L'orchestre was actually good, I don't think you'll love it but I don't think you will hate it either. Olfactive O need more hype. I only tried this one so far from the new ones and from the old ones, I've tried Raving Rose and Soie Malaquais. I've got another to try though. This one actually had that sweet creamy vanilla greeness that turns my stomach a little but it was ok cos it wasn't beast mode. I can imagine DvN fragrances being sweet in general, they are trying to be massive appealing but niche too! 🥰
