Mee goreng mamak.. good stuff indeed. I prefer spicy one stir fried in high heat with a slight burnt taste. Must have the right mix of salty, sweet, spicy, sour etc. Mee rebus and Mee bandung are also a specialty in southern peninsular msia. Like any other dish, you must get it from the right place for that perfect taste! Mee bandung needs to have that dried shrimp taste/paste and mee rebus needs to have much thicker brown gravy. By the way, mee bandung and sirap bandung has nothing to do with Bandung, Indonesia hehe

Mee rebus have two types.. southern type and east coast . The east cost mee rebus is just like what you guys eat in the video. It is soup, sour, & sweet at the same time. Southern version especially in johor the soup is a little bit thick and the color is red, looks like a curry noodle but it is not. The soup made of beef stock and serve with shreded meat on top. 😋 For me the east coast type is the best... feel like in my hometown

Steve and Ivana, Mee Kungfu isn't a martial art noodles. A pun from the word Cantonese. To have authentic Cantonese and Hailam noodles, you have to get them from Chinese Restaurant. The flavours must come from the good chicken and pig bone broth to make the sauce. Authentic Mee Ladna from Thai Restaurant and Mee Bandung from Muar. Mee goreng is mamak's speciality. Thus, to rightly gauge whether which type of mee is the best, you can't do it just from one restaurant. Probably you need to do more "mee party". Lol.🤣

Mee Bandung is actually original dish from district called Muar in Johor. The original version is actually made of chill paste mixed with dried prawn which gives the gravy thick red texture. I have problem with people outside Muar triy to make the dish by just making it a tomato based soup and called it Mee Bandung when the taste is so different and not as good as the original. Next do a taste test or video about "Laksa". 1. Laksa Normal / Sarang burung 2. Laksa Pulau Pinang (normal flour) 3. Asam Laksa 4. Laksa Kuala Kangsar (they use wheat flour) 5. Laksa Singapore 6. Laksam (some region in Malaysia consider it Laksa) Yeah, it super hard to get all of it in one places. Maybe you can try it at least once.

Mee Kung Fu best cooked with Yee Mee, the thin crunchy noodle.. which you can easily find in Chinese restaurant. Some Malay restaurant have it but normally they use mee kuning (yellow) which is the usual thick noodles as mee goreng. In Chinese restaurant, it is also well known as Cantonese mee instead of kung fu.

If you fancy for the best cantonese mee (in my opinion) and you are going back to Negeri Sembilan, head over to Oakland at Seremban 2 and look for chinese muslim restaurant called Victory. Their cantonese mee is so good even the freshness of all the vegetable taste like sweetness in your mouth. It is a must stop place whenever I travel south.. aaaand also on my way back to KL.

My favorite? There's something called "Mee Hokkien". Problem is finding some that is halal. There is a place near where I live that serves halal Mee Hokkien, though. There's also a "Mee Kantonis" (Cantonese Mee) which has a white sauce, similar to Mee Kung Fu. Another favorite of mine is "Mee Goreng Basah" - literally "Wet Fried Noodles". It's sort of like Mee Goreng made "wet", rather than dry. It's usually not "mamak style", but "Chinese style", with fish cake and scallions in it. The best I've ever had were the ones you could buy in the buffet car on trains of the Keretapi Tanah Melayu (Malayan Railways) back in the 1970s (sadly, long gone.. the current trains only carry pre-packaged meals in plastic containers). Another noodle dish that I really like (but which I have never found in Malaysia) is "Mee Celur Palembang" - which you get in Palembang, in Sumatra (I did find it in a shopping mall in Jakarta, once). It's hard to describe - probably most similar to Mee Bandung but the sauce has peanuts in it. Malaysia is full of dishes which bear place names outside of Malaysia where they've probably NEVER even HEARD of the eponymous dish - Nasi Goreng Pattaya, Mee Bandung, Air Bandung (which is rose syrup and milk) are three that come to mind. The soup in Mee Kung Fu? I've watched them prepare it - I think they actually put starch powder into the soup. Or maybe it's flour. If I'm not mistaken, what makes Mee Kung Fu Mee Kung Fu is that they fry the actual noodles with an egg, making a sort of noodle omelette, which is then drowned in the soup (which is prepared in a separate wok). Otherwise it's called something else (Mee Kantonis, perhaps). The sauce in the Mee Ladna is oyster sauce, comes in a bottle. I think slurping noodles is a Japanese thing - I've never seen anyone do it here.

One thing you didn't explore was asking for different types of noodles. "Mee" is the regular yellow Chinese style noodles, but instead of mee you can ask for "Kauy Teow" (which is the Thai-style ribbon-like white rice noodles). And there's "Mee Hoon" (or sometimes it's called "Mee Siam"), which people sometimes call "Vermicelli" but it really is not, since it's rice-based rather than wheat pasta. You can get most of those dishes with these other noodles - for instance, you could ask for "Kuay Teow Kung Fu" or "Mee Hoon Goreng". There are rules, though - if you asked for "Mee Hoon Bandung" they'd probably make it for you but they'd look at you funny.
