*hello friends* wanted to make a quick note because I completely agree with you all about the HIKED up prices with ThredUp, especially since it is such a rad idea of "thrifting online" especially during this Pandemic, but I think they are over exaggerating the estimated price which then is helping them have a more expensive "thredup price", a secondhand fast fashion item shouldn't be more expensive than if you just went on that fast fashion company and I HEAR YOU ALL with that 🙌🏻 I think they do have some good deals here and there and they have been a great avenue during this pandemic for me as I am not able to go thrifting as much, but that's why I always make note of prices and just my overall concerns. I do still think it was a good box specifically with regards to the actual items, I did like most of them, BUT the thing that definitely drove it down were some of the prices of them especially since I did give a budget although I think it's more of a ~suggested~ budget. Overall I had a grand time and I'm happy I only paid $10 😅

Thred up has gone to a consignment model. The sellers increase the price to the max allowed. Since TU is warehousing items for them, they don't care when it sells (if it does). I suspect TU will figure this out eventually since it will cut into their profit. One issue is that resellers are paid instantly when an item is selected for goody boxes. Ouch. I liked the flower top for $58? No way. I bet when TU relists it they'll drop the price by half (even though they already paid for it). Also TU is selling on Walmart + several others (Macy's, JCP, Nordstroms). They've grown into more than online thrift shop.

@@aikanae1 Well four years or so ago when they still followed the old model. They were horrible to sellers and that's when I dealt with them. The first time was not great but okay. But by final grade I was getting literally pennies for my stuff and they sold everything for thirty+ each. Terrible company plus back then instead of giving items they didn't choose to charity, they put in grab bags and still made money. It was so long ago but at the time an ex employee confirmed and on the website they were selling grab bags. You couldn't choose much at that time but people bought to resell. I also question how there employees are treated and paid.

@@ccw2613 I agree. A lot of brands are always on 30%+ discount - so msrp is worthless. TU's inventory is EUC or new unlike thrifts and they take measurements, pics which is time consuming. Their labor and shipping costs must be huge. My point is the increase in sales price is often due to resellers pushing the price to max allowed. They don't have an incentive to sell quickly since TU is warehousing their items.

I think thred up is such a scammy company, they pay people pennies for clothes they send in and then turn around and inflate retail prices and sometimes sell it for more than the original price, doesnt sit well with me. Still better than clothes going to a landfill but they really need to adjust their pricing to make online thrifting accessible to more people

I love the idea of the mystery boxes but my goodness they seem like such a rip off. After watching your videos of them as well as others, its crazy to see the prices of most of the items. The mystery part is fun and getting things you may have not picked for yourself is nice, but for the price of one item though you could do so much better thrifting on your own. Love your channel and I thought I’d share some helpful information I learned a while back, sometimes the pockets come sewn together on jackets and blazers just to keep the shape until being sold, you can check if it’s an actual pocket and if it is you just use a seam ripper and then you have a functioning pocket. I remember when I found this out I went through all my jackets and seam ripped them all and now lots and lots of pockets lol hope this helps. Xo

If you’re trying a new blazer. You may have to unstitch the pockets. Be sure to check if there’s an actual pocket by feeling for extra fabric or looking under the lining. Same with pockets on shorts and trousers. The only thing I would have kept was the boots.

Yeah, if you have a seam ripper you can easily remove the thread that keeps the pockets closed.

I feel like thredup should give a major discount on mystery boxes since it's a huge bundle to one person and they'll pay less shipping/handling. I think they're heavily overcharging you on the items - if these items were discounted in one of their sales, they would be at least half the price. Honestly, I don't think mystery boxes are worth it in general usually unless there's a huge financial incentive, and even then its hard to get your style right. Though this is coming from a control freak....i like to buy things individually since I trust my own curation better than someone else's 😅

I’ve always considered getting a mystery box but never have as $100+ is a large chunk of change to not know exactly what I’m getting. If I ever did I’d probably get one from depop because at least you know who you’re supporting and they tend to have more vintage items that have resell value if you don’t like it

When you tried on the blazer (1st item) and your red slip dress was escaping out from the bottom of your shorts i was hoping you would take the shorts off as I thought the dress and blazer together would make a really nice contrast. I really loved the top shop floral dress on you but you didn't go for it and that's okay! The leopard print dress was quite expensive but would be a perfect go to dress for going out, paired with the blazer or, as you said, a black leather. I agree with what someone else has said about your petite frame, those "blousey blouses" are just too oversized on you and not in a good way. I have a similar issue with things dropping off my shoulders. I've tried making some smaller, either with elastic or just by taking them in a bit at the shoulder which works okay, but i don't think they ever fit quite right if they aren't made to a petite pattern. Very much looking forward to the next haul 🙂

I bet they're getting salvage items from some of these stores. Hence so many items with tags. It just doesn't seem likely that many people would send them items with tags. ThredUp can buy this stuff from liquidators by the case or by the pound. It's probably been on sale and on clearance and hasn't sold or is overstock. The prices are inflated, so I would only keep things I LOVE!

The beige blazer is a basic and versatile. I recommend this for you! You can check the pockets to see if they have sewn in the pocket. Use a seam ripper to open the pockets! The thinking process you use makes sense. The prices were too high!

That colorful poofy shirt would look great with black, high waisted skinny jeans. I have a basic formula that I follow for outfits. Poofy top? Pair with skinny jeans. Tight top? Pair with baggy (big) jeans. It helps create a nice balance.

Thanks so much for including Autumn, she is sooooo beautiful, I had to show her to my boyfriend and he agreed. We are both cat lovers and I love how many cats I see on KZbin through other people's videos. Really keeps me going cos my two cats moved to the country with my parents (same situation with my bf and his cats) and I moved into a flat in the city. Then a couple years ago one of them died at age 14 which I found difficult because I adored him and he was just the sweetest, most affectionate big ginger boy. Plus I had only gotten to see him the summer before he got sick so I wasn't there when he had to be put down. I cried myself to sleep in my flat nearly every night for like 6 months, at age 26 lol. His mother is still around though and doing well, she is a tortoiseshell cat like Autumn. I usually only get to see her twice a year during the summer and at Christmas when I visit my parents but ofc cos of the pandemic I haven't been able to visit since Christmas 2019. She's very vocal and always has a lot to say to me so I've been missing her a lot this year lmao. Many KZbinrs bring me joy, just like you, but KZbinrs with cats? The joy is immediately multiplied haha ❤

I hope that ThredUP addresses this ridiculous overpricing issue. I completely understand that the labor of listing items, packaging, shipping, etc - are all factored into determining pricing... but damn... these are WILD prices for secondhand items and honestly kind of insulting and ridiculously inaccessible to the average person trying to thrift and save money. It's possible the pockets of the blazer are still sewn shut. They do that so the blazer keeps its shape while in store or in transit. Lots of people don't know this and never open them. I find so many blazers in the thrift store with the pockets still sewn shut.

There's no way on earth that green Topshop tank would have been $30 new. Topshop is slightly more expensive in the US than it is here in the UK, but not *that* much more expensive! My guess is that even in the US it would have been cheaper new than the price they're charging for it secondhand. Some of the clothes in that box were nice - I really love that blazer - but the prices are definitely very inflated.

Hi! First of all-EVERYTHING a LOOKS GOOD ON YOU!!!! I thought every piece had several positives about it-especially the flowered top-so cute!!! HOWEVER! Are they kidding with the prices? You certainly thrift GREAT things on your own, for so much LESS money! Also, you can actually get some of those items cheaper from the original store when they go on sale-and not past season! Sales are quite prolific this year!! I think the ThredUP STYLIST took advantage of the fact that you were willing to go up to $50 per item and raised the prices! Every time I see a KZbinr talk about ThredUp, I go on the site to see what I can find! There are actually some older things that are more reasonably priced (I prefer older vintage anyway), but everything that’s actually supposed to be fashionable now, are several seasons old, but still highly priced! Newer things are more expensive than the current sales! I think you do a MUCH better job at sourcing your own thrifted items from Goodwill and other places! Last Sunday I bought 16 pieces for a dollar each at my local Goodwill! I got some amazing things-including 3 really vintage chic dresses, a cream wool blazer, and a nice black wool winter car coat, and much more! Forget ThredUp-they are taking advantage of the pandemic situation, using influencers to get people to spend too much on thrifted items they receiv3d free, and are not doing it at a “fair” priced in anyway!! Sorry! Just have had it with them!!!

I love this type of content 💕! As far as the items in the box, I am with you. The blazer is a nice fit and color and the green T-shirt looks attractive. The rest of it just wasn’t the right fit for your figure. You have a petite frame that didn’t pair well with the blouses. The Harley Davidson would have been cute if it were oversized as you said. The boots 👎🏼. I also agree a square heel would be much better. Thanks for sharing 💖.

I think that thred up is just overpriced.. second hand clothes shouldn’t cost as much as something new. I think the prices need to be lower in order to move people to buy second hand and not buy new because buying new is cheaper.

I think thred up might have increased their prices. Some of the stuff is near the regular price, especially the near new or with tag items.

The best part of this video....AUTUMN!!! I love kitties. I love petting and brushing my kitties. It's very therapeutic. She is sooooo cute. Please add more Autumn to your videos. 🐱❤🥰 I don't know that much about ThredUp other than I've seen other KZbinrs use them. I thought you looked beautiful in every piece. Though the shoulder issue would drive me crazy....slipping down all the time. Sadly I'd say no to those items for that reason. You looked great in the boots but if they aren't comfy...forget it. The brighter colors look divine on you. I particularly like the blues on you. Can you let us know what you decide to keep? Also, is there a reason that TredUp prices are somewhat high for second hand clothes? ❤

OK, potentially long comment: I'm a dedicated thrifter like you Alexa and at the beginning of lockdown I did a closet de-clutter. It sat around for awhile and I just recently went through everything to list and sell on Facebook Market place/ebay and there was a real theme with things that didn't end up working for me: * Anything ill-fitting (especially button-downs that gape or bags with too long straps) * Odd colour schemes/ patterns that didn't go with the majority of my wardrobe. * Clingy polyester ( some polyesters are fine but for the most part they're not great especially in a hot climate. It's like I liked the idea of these clothing items but once I got them into rotation they just didn't gel. All this is to say, I feel like the majority of these items are like that: maybe cute by themselves but ultimately: ill fitting, polyester, random colors and prints and over-priced fast fashion...nothing wrong with a bit of thrifted fast fashion but all of this stuff seems kind of random. Autumn is super cute though :D
