Love it dude sweet video! I am a big handup glove fan too! I battle that decision all the time pump vs co2. You made a great point about the difference in weight in the 2 never really thought about that. Keep up the great work buddy!

Finally a voice of reason! I have carried a Blackburn Mammoth since the late 90's. It is bigger and fatter than a lot of the mini-pumps so it puts out a lot of volume per stroke. It's heavier than the tiny mini pumps, but it's worth it when you actually have to put air in a tire. Anybody who knows I carry it asks to use it instead of their mini when they need air on the trail. Regarding CO2, I think you need at least three cartridges. Too often the first cartridge gets wasted because of another hole, unseated bead or the person using it is just unfamiliar with the way their inflator works.

I carry both, but If im doing shuttles I use Co2 because I can hopefully seal the bead of the tyre and still remain Tubless for the rest of the run/ride. But always have a tube and Pump as a back up.
@alexthemtbr
@alexthemtbr 7 жыл бұрын
Enduro Shredders that’s smart! Yea I guess I use a dynaplug to help seal the outside. I’ve never flatted where the bead unseated so badly that I couldn’t pump it by hand, I guess that depends on the tire
@enduroshredders6122
@enduroshredders6122 7 жыл бұрын
Alex Chamberlin Knock on wood, I also haven't had issues with a huge flat, but if a friend has a flat the Co2 just speeds up the process trail side, and more of a chance that the tubeless will still seal, since the Co2 releases a lot of gas really quickly. But if I'm not in a fast group, hand pump every time. Save money and the environment!
@TheGuyWho3415

Enduro Shredders every time I go to the park I get a flat, last time it was rough! Busted a dime sized hole in the tire riiiight on the bead. C02 might have globbed up enough sealant, but all I had was a pump :(
@enduroshredders6122
@enduroshredders6122 7 жыл бұрын
Like what Alex said, Dynaplug would help too, and a Co2 you might have gotten lucky and sealed it again.

I liked that ...I carry a Lezyne Alloy Drive mini-pump, mounted next to bottle cage. It has a small hose that stores inside the pump when not in use. I also carry a valve core tool, and make sure the core is tight before threading the pump onto the valve! ...It does seem to take forever to reach proper psi with a small pump... Yes on the EDC vid, and also intrigued by the OneUp system... thanx man! ☻🦄

Not sure if this has been mentioned already - I’ve heard the benefit of using C02, other than the time savings and hand cramping, is the fact that it has the power to seat a tubeless tire. I carry a small vial of sealant and one C02 cartridge with the presta adapter. I’ve actually never used it to prove myself right or wrong...would be interesting if an mtb KZbinr made a video out of it ;)

Kenny Sousa you can! But if you flat a tuneless tire and the bead pops off. Why would you try and reseat it? What if the tire has a hole and doesn’t reseat. Then you wasted your co2 and your tire is flat 😂

I wouldn't mind trying the e*thirteen cassette, the extra range in an 11spd package would be interesting to try. The 9t may be a little sketchy, but you're not exactly going to be pumping out gobs of torque in that gear anyway; the ability to run a wicked small ring up front would be nice here in Austin. There's a lot of tech after someone spilled Miracle-Gro on the rock gardens... Also, I carry both. Co2 is to help reseat a bead if I have to boot my tire. I already carry 25lbs of camera gear, what's another few grams? 💪😎

I tried the Box 11-46 cassette and I liked it alot until I bent the sprockets. But aside from that, the 46 vs 42 (SRAM) in first gear made enough of a difference in the PNW hills with a 30T front sprocket. But the 11T for the highest gear was marginal, but only on the road. I never ran out of gears on the trail.

I got pump + 2 co2 cartridges, pumping with a small pump is really harsh on my hands. one problem with the Lezyne co2 head is that they wear out fast, so it does not fill up the tyre. I got a Lezyne pump, so far no issues, but the rubber caps fall off.

just a few times of use and they are useless, the rubber seal inside wears out, so if you want to continue using it new seals is necessary. as can be seen here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnfZmqyDe9-HjrM this is the model that failed me: www.lezyne.com/product-CO2-infl-twinspddrive.php#.Wg7dz3lryUk I got their sv10 multitool, worked flawlessly, but I managed to bend the small Allen key due to play in the tool, I should have checked the tool, so was my fault, managed to bend it back, I regularly check my tools now. flic.kr/s/aHsm4Z2rgZ

I have not tested a bunch of them, but first impressions were not that great. I got the Lezyne Alloy Drive, I have previously used a topeak pump, But it was awful seal wore out after about ten uses. durable seals is important, also easy to replace too.
@mtbboy1993

pump with a hose is definitely a must, A kid surprised me, with taking my pump and tried to pump up my bike, and damaged the Presta valve with a Topeak DX.
@mtbboy1993
@mtbboy1993 7 жыл бұрын
But you can, of course, replace the seals, for the where the valve goes in, but not where the cartridge goes in, which worn out, I did not expect it to wear so soon. I guess its possible, if you get the seal out with a pick and then replace it by pressing it back in, which could be tricky, IMO they should have made both ends with a threaded cap, to make it easy.

Was running schwalbe's in colorado and had to put 3 tubes in 1 week but after 2nd time with lightest pump which sucked I switched to a lenze mini floor pump ya it's heavier but not alot more but man they work awesome. And yes I was running tubeless with 30 lbs in rear. I run a dhf in rear now and love it but that pump is worth its weight. I'm all about lighter but if it doesn't work worth a hoot then it's dead weight. It's big enough to work good but small enough to strap on next to water bottle.

I never really put much thought into it. I have a mini pump on my water bottle cage but it is tiny mini. I can hardly imagine pumping a mtb tire with it but it is always there. I also carry co2. I have used both. Mini for a slow leak discovered in my wife's bike that encouraged me to buy co2 and the co2 in Moab. Both with tubes. I have since gone tubeless on my bike and have never had an issue but still carry both and a tube. I don't care about the weight at all. If I add two pounds to my set up that only makes me want to lose 5 from my personal excess. I can alway stand to lose a couple of pounds. I guess the co2 is easier in my mind so my reality is it is easier. So my answer to your question is that both is better than either one.

I would not buy these gloves due to lack of knuckle protection, I had actually torn the first layer of skin of my middle finger by crashing once. crashed in few trees too. So for me, Poc is the only option.

Johannes Nilsen that makes sense! I’m a big minimalist fan but I can definitely see why you would want the added protection

I also wear shin, knee, elbow guards and of course FullFace helmet, with my joint issues its really a must, saved me from harsh impacts several times, some of them where even not on the trails.

Man everyone still uses tubes, its insane, for me 2500km on my road bike tubeless and no punctures, I had 1 but it sealed itself so it doesnt even count. I have never taken a tube with me, I only take a pump :) I love trolling people with innertubes.

Kurtis dude still bring a tube 😂😂 Almost every mtber runs tubeless and we still get flat tires bad enough that we can’t re seal the tire
@KurtisPape
@KurtisPape 7 жыл бұрын
I dont feel the need to on the road or MTB, if you get a huge blow out thats the end of the tire so your doomed anyway, but a puncture can seal itself and a pump should be all you need to get the tire back to pressure, Ill get back to ya if I have to do the walk of shame hahaha :)

Say you burp a ton of air, and your tubeless set-up loses it's bead...then wouldn't you need a CO2 to get it back in if you don't wanna use your tube? I have the OneUP EDC tool that's hidden inside the pump (not the steerer tube) so I ride with both.

For me if you are not racing I don;t understand the CO2 at all, hand pump as I am in no rush. Also since I am tubeless I rarely have any issue. I also think CO2 is a waste of our natural resources.

Not that i have owned these HandUP ones. What I dont like on gloves is when the seam meets on the fingertip, if it's not perfectly sown it presses you under the nail and is annoying. for example the cube gloves or roeckl mango gloves have the palm material going over the fingertip to the upper side of finger and the seam is about where your nail starts to grow from finger. nice and sturdy and comfortable but i guess a bit less design-friendly

On the new bike healing up! I Agree with all the comments about the downside of CO2. I am a CO2 carrier exclusively. I rarely use it but you can easily fill up up to a 2.3 29er tire with a single 18g CO2 (see link below) and it takes about 30 sec. I have a limited time to bike CO2 and a Dynaplug have made small punctures a non-item.. Honestly, the real reason for CO2 because I am old/lazy and need to preserve my strokin' arm muscles. It always seems to take like umpteen trillion strokes to fill up a tire using a pump. I think if I was really worried and in the middle of nowhere I would carry both. Been impressed with Hand UP gloves and their customer service. They seem like an excellent company. If you had a design I would buy a pair. CO2 chart and estimated psi per CO2 canister: reviews.mtbr.com/inflation-chart-for-different-tire-sizes-and-co2-sizes/screen-shot-2016-08-01-at-12-48-36-pm

Eric O, your points are definitely valid! Makes sense. That’s awesome to hear about the handup gloves! Hopefully I can come out with a design soon.
