Great update on the Enduro! One thing that stood out to me was how you said your metalic pads need a pull or two before the fully brake - I'm so glad I'm not alone in that! Thought my XT's were bugging out! Thanks for sharing Alex!

My fingers are crossed that Pivot brings out a LT 29er with room for both an X2 and a bottle cage! There is always the SB5.5! It's a bummer that stock is the issue with so many of these frames.

Some other KZbin riders just keep posting boring rides with their Patreon subs, but they hardly post any in-depth tech reviews. The iPhone quality was cool as far as I can tell, and the interesting content is what's really important. BTW - I liked your recent TDS uploads. Keep up the good work! Another bike to think about would be the Orbea Rallon. Their size large isn't the biggest on the market for sure, but is has a super steep seat tube angle, slack front end with an short-offset fork, and a really great riding rear suspension. I work in a demo shop and really like the extra length compared to my Hightower LT.

Try getting your hands on a linkage set from a 2017 bike, use the link only (not the shock yoke). It makes a big difference, feels so much better thru the travel and you dont get a super hard ramp up at the end. I have had both 2017 and 2018 enduros, noticed it straight away when going to the ‘18 bike, luckily had a spare linkage from the ‘17 to swap over. Added bonus with the older link is you get 165mm of rear wheel travel instead of 160mm

Something that I have noticed on stock Shimano pads, if you leave your bike sitting after a wet ride, the pads oxidize or something. So they make more noise and have less power. This is with the stock Shimano organic pads. The sinter ones seem to care less about that.

Alex, I ride a 2017 Specialized Enduro 29r elite and so far I have enjoyed it thoroughly. I finally had to send in my rock shox monarch plus for service and have been testing my buddy's Ohlins air shock which I have no complaints about even though that shock has had some reliability issues. I too am a Maxis tire guy, but I am testing the new Butcher 29X2.6s and recommend that you test those tires - although, they may not measure 2.6 with calipers. I enjoy aggressive trail riding, jumping, and climbing - so far so good. Specialized website is having a sale right now on all $45+ tires, buy one get one free. The knobs on these tires have really good bite - check them out! Cheers, Andrew (SoCal Enduro rider)

Blew out 3 air shocks on my 2017 enduro 29 as well mate. Only brand I could source in UK that did the enduro specific shock length was ohlins. I know what you mean about the coil bottom out. I run the sag probably 15 - 20% to compensate for the end stroke issue. it usually means my legs are doing most of the work at low speed but when it gets fast I feel like it's amazing! I understand your issues though. I think my next frame I choose shall have a more progressive linkage system so I know there are more options out there!

Man, with your skills, it is all about finding a bike that just feels right for YOU. People put WAY too much on what the bike can handle. Off Road riding is more about the person's skill than the bike. A perfect example of this is Yoann Barelli riding a cyclross bike down Dirt Merchant in Whistler. If the bike does not feel right, it is not you, the bike just is not what you want. Just my 2 cents. Love the videos man, keep on doing what you are doing!

Hey if your looking for a new bike the 2018 Devinci Spartan is rad! I have been on mine since may, and put on around 150,000 ft of vert and over 180 hours (did a spring training camp in North Carolina for a month) and all I can say is that it shreds. Can run it very plush like I like it without bottoming hard on anything including days at windrock. It can also be ridden with a stiff setup, my friend Adam Robbins runs it that way and is winning pro out here in the east coast. Incredible traction and solid geo makes this thing feel planted at speed, but is still a blast at slow speeds and gets me koms on my local trail XC rides.

Awesome review. I am leaning towards Nicolai g15 & Pole Evolink. they have a longer wheelbase, and chainstay, to me they seem more like what I am looking for, But I haven't demo'ed any of them. the linkage design is quite decent on the Specialized, I like that it has double shear joints/linkages, bearings won't missalig this way, liek htey do on my fuel ex, but I am not sure how well, threaded alloy shell molded to carbon would do with temperature changes.

Hey Richard, I enjoyed your video on your Enduro. I have the same bike as you but a Ohlins coil 2018 and I truly love it. I am also an advanced rider like yourself and my opinion differs a little from yours. I live in Colorado we’re we have four mn’t bike parks chair lifted and I went from Nomad C to the Enduro. The Enduro is noticeably faster I think through rock sections combined with the progression of the coil it’s scary fast. I myself don’t no as much as you in the suspension department as I go with the feel of the bike setup and work a little from there. For a big bike it climbs really well better than the Nomad . I think sometimes we can over think the suspension I have not bottomed out yet on my Enduro yet and my body weight is around 190 Ibs and I love to huck ! Lol! Anyway, just wanted to hit you up with my experience on my Enduro. Enjoy the ride bro.

I had the same issues with the rear on my 2013 enduro, felt way too chattery. I put the same Vivid coil on and it was better but still not perfect. I ended up running a 450 spring and almost too much air in the fork to keep it from going through stuff too hard, and considering i am on 67kgs it was weird. If you visualize the suspension on your current bike under compression, the wheelbase actually *shortens.* I've never had a bike with rear suspension, but I imagine that would feel a bit sketchy when landing bigger jumps. I only know of two manufacturers that make frames with rear suspensions that have the wheel moving *backward* under compression: Commençal and Canfield Brothers. Both frames are technically marketed at DH riders (not enduro, but pretty close...) One requires an adapter to mount a 203 rear disc (which will probably bother your OCD,) and the other doesn't meet your "29er" requirement; even still, I hope that this is at least a nudge in the right direction for your quest to find the ideal rear suspension.

Last year I ended my 10 year ride on an Enduro and like it...until I rode an Ibis HD3 (that DW link:). I'm sure that the several iterations of the Enduro that came out between mine and yours included several changes but I just never loved that FSR suspension but couldn't afford to get out of it until last year. I always felt like the bike was riding very harsh, unless I was riding way faster/harder than I felt comfortable; i've heard this comment about the HD4 as well "you really have to push it to make it ride well" but I haven't tried one so I can't say for sure. I love your videos but I also understand how much work it is to shoot and edit them and unless this is your full time, paying job it's a struggle to find the time/motivate yourself to do it. The mech at my local LBS just got rid of his HD4 for a Ripmo, he says it's faster for him than the HD4 was. Good luck with your bike search.

The enduro has an odd leverage curve. At the end of the stroke from around 125 to 165mm the leverage ratio rises up so will tend to blow through its travel faster. They have quite a high leverage ratio as well which won't help things.
@MrBjorntsc6 жыл бұрын
Same problems here. Great for the average rider. Linear rates help most riders use more travel. The more aggressive and fast you are, the more progressiveness you need. It is hard to manage travel with a near linear rate and the inability to run an air shock. The ext storia also did not last. They sent out shafts with a reinforcement a few weeks ago. Now it is a option. The vivid needs the firm compression tune. The ohlins needs to be firmed up. The push is also an option. Any ideas on the firebird 29? Kind of interested myself.

Yea I watched the whole video. I tried an enduro (aluminum) last year, i'm not a very good rider but really tall. I hated the pedaling position on it. I ended up with a Guerilla Gravity The Smash and love it. I like when there is more 3rd person action in videos. the helmet/chest mounts get old. But 3rd person is a lot more of a pain in the ass to film.

Totally on point, I have been on one for 30 days, will send but it feels slightly reckless, yes, rear shock blowup, I love to corner and jump this bike. What’s the rise on your bars?

Go with the Yeti again Alex your a Yeti rider... I don’t think the Specialized fits your style like the Yeti did! Haha....all the bikes you were considering are sick. The Ibis Ripmo or the Rocky Mountain Instinct BC edition are two of my other favs. Great video keep them coming!

Nukeproof mage, I've had the 275 for nearly a year now and I love it, not a bike many people in the US ride though

I've got the same cranks on my DH bike, they seem fine. Same issue with the metallic pads, but they're great after that.

I've got a '18 Enduro 29 too. Float X2 rear Fox 36 160 front. Saw your last bike update and commented about some of my difficulties with setup as well. It has been a hard bike to get setup well. Right now I've finally got it feeling good. It is I think a bit more plush than my old SB5.5c with float X2 and the rear does not bounce around as much. The Enduro does not sprint as well which is unfortunate as that is a big part of being fast. I also have a Aluminum Sentinel and it's been good but frame is way heavy. I snagged a L carbon frame so considering building that up but first race is in a week and half so not the time to change for me. I did switch to a 44mm offset CSU on my fork and installed a Vorsprung Luftkappe. The offset was a small but positive difference. Luftkappe is only positive. How did you tell that your Float X2 was cavitated? I'm ready to switch bikes too as I'm constantly chasing "perfect". Maybe SC will do a 29er Nomad? I need a h20 bottle mount too. Specialized and the SWAT system means I can do huge rides and not have to wear a pack which is big for me. New Stumpjumper looks pretty good too honestly. I'd be on a Ripmo if I could get a deal, but I stick to anything I can get a deal on. Bottom line, as you said I think it's possible to be fast on anything but bikes are so good I want something that doesn't have huge compromises.

Todd Munson sounds like we are in the same boat. The stumpy is intriguing because I love being able to do huge rides without a backpack. If you want to sell that transition... let me know 😂 I’ve heard rumors about the Hightower LT getting nomad like suspension soon too. Interested in that for sure!

Love your videos! Keep posting! What about an orbea rallon? Big travel 29er with room for a bottle cage. There's a comparison vid v the enduro and the rallon comes out on top. They had similar feedback to yours on the enduro!

wigdig the sizing just doesn’t work out well unfortunately

I'm between sizes too... 187cm. Went for the XL. Rode the large before purchase and it felt a tad small.

By the way - more skills vids would be great. The advice you gave on the Loam Ranger's vid about line choice, trail braking while cornering, etc. was really helpful.
