No, not really. "JoJo's bizarre adventure" is a REALLY OLD shonen jump anime and manga series in which Hirohiko Araki (creator/artist) went in depth of the characters detail and tried to make everything perfectly defined shading and all. In which succeeded. Especially for his time, his art, when corroborated to modern styles is still more detailed on even the littlest things with no execption of shading.

Out of all of Sam's videos I've watched, I think this is the one that was the most illuminating regarding the coloring and stylization techniques; having the narration of the decision making during the process is so incredibly useful. I would love to see more comparisons (such as a similar exercise in a different lighting or posing scenario). Also, when he was begging the lineart to land... I felt that on a visceral level, lol.

Thank you for tackling this and letting us know that line art is not something you are very proficient or comfortable with. I think a lot of times beginner artists find that they aren't good at an aspect of their work and take it to mean that it's all bad and they won't improve. We all have our strengths and where we hone our skills is part of how our style is developed.

As someone who does line art it is way easier to do on paper in my personal opinion. Something I like a about it is that it gives the drawing more of a defined texture. Instead of the way you do it which is more of a let the color give it shape. I prefer drawing on paper because I like the feeling of the pencil on the paper. Instead of drawing on a flat surface with little to no texture. I respect both drawing on appear and drawing on a device as they both come to the same conclusion! Some the vid and the art! Great Job!!

I've seen a lot of people's styles, but I still like yours the most hahaha. It seems simple but not simple. The works of art are rich in content. It's like writing Chinese characters. The fewer strokes, the harder it is to write beautifully. I think Painting is the same

Something I would point out is that disney often used coloured lineart in their 2d animated work, not just black. The picture of Ariel that you referenced wasn't a very good example of this, since the Little Mermaid wasn't big on using them, and the end result is really good regardless. Though if you're curious, Cinderella uses a lot of coloured lines, and has examples of what the animators did with characters that had a lighter colour palette (like Cinderella herself).

This was incredibly interesting to watch!! I didn’t fully realize how much saturated your colors are until I saw them side by side with a more realistic and a more anime style 😯 I personally still struggle as I can’t color and I don’t know which style I’m mostly gravitating towards (there are simply too many I find beautiful and wish to emulate). It was interesting to see you struggle with the linearts too, since I experience the same discomfort if I try to define shapes without it xD it baffles me still how you can convey different shapes using hard and soft edges instead of lines Also I hope you’re doing better now :/ food poisoning sounds awful

i never really thought i could.. like, make a decent drawing without lineart first. but seeing you, drawwaffles and others, do rough sketches and ten colour and line after/not at all is so impressive to me. It's such a challenge to decide on specific colours beforehand for me, so i prefer to sketch, maybe a second sketch, then line and colour at the end- the colouring and specifically shading taking up most of the time. when youre in a groove with lineart it can go pretty fast! but the undo shortcut is still my best friend.
