The older generations are odd like that. Why make food bland af, when you lose taste buds has you age. I love seasoned foods. My mum didn't, so I agree with you.
@homeoftheinepttulpagamer
@homeoftheinepttulpagamer 4 жыл бұрын
The average person couldnt afford spices, even tea was locked away in little safes as it was so expensive. Most ordinary people lived on bread until the turn of the 20th century and the pallete was stifled during the second world war due to rationing.. In the early 1980s most kids like me live on baked beans on toast most of the week as it was all we could afford due to strikes and industrial action. Alot of the foods appear bland but were very indulgent so things like scotch eggs and pork pies made an appearance at christmas or if someone was getting married. Thankfully.. I think today we have a wonderful variety of foods and tastes, some of the classics are also improving! (Pork and pickle pie or Cumberland Scotch Egg - much more flavour)

We didn't invade we traded. And then gradually took over. Did you know we ran India with less 20,000 people/troops there? What that means is Britain ruled India *with the help of the locals* In Uganda apparently we had just 250 civil servants. The British Empire was the most (relatively) benign and benevolent Empire in history.

You can get pork pie with all sorts of extras added in like chutney, cheese. And garlic on the pastry. The basic supermarket own brand cheap versions aren't great and often have quite a bit of gelatin to fill in for the meat they cheaped out on, and could do with using nicer pastry (like a proper flakey one or something).

I think that’s part of it although British food is considered notoriously “bland” internationally in my experience ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You should try Tunnocks snowballs! I love them and think they're nicer than the teacakes but they are harder to get hold of (in the the south west anyway, not sure where you are). Also, McCoy's crisps and lots of Cadbury chocolate.

For pork pie Melton Mowbray and you can get ones with a flavour to them. The banana Soreen are delicious. I'm so happy Stevie loved the Tunnocks Caramel! They were my favourite thing from my Nan's when I was little, really gotta get some now 😃

For American snacks, try some things from Trader Joe’s if you can get them sent over. The dark chocolate peanut butter cups, peppermint chocolate dipped Joe-Joes (Oreos knock-off) they have at Christmas, Thai Lime and a Chili almonds, unusual dried fruits...anything else non-perishable.

If the Frazzles are anything like the bacon potato chips I had when I was there, I would hug a small puppy to get them. The fake bacon flavor is so convincing and I want it on everything. Even small puppies.

Make your own pork pie! It's like a pork "mince", with more spices than they use (think like a breakfast sausage, but a spicy breakfast sausage), that's then wrapped in puff pastry, which they stole from the French, and you can either spend three days making it, or you should be able to buy frozen. Cup of buttery pastry, cup of savory sausage. I have made myself hungry. Again.

Arctic Roll. Soreen, 20 seconds in the microwave + butter. (Watch out for the heat.) MilkyWay in the USA is not the same! The best egg-custards that I've had were in Portugal. Has Josie tried a BabyRuth?
