I appreciate this video but some points: 1: These are fashion corsets. Or "corselettes". They usually have plastic boning and are not suitable for tightlacing. The boning quickly looses shape and they more of a lingerie corset. Proper corsets can reduce 5" to 15" depending on the corset. 2: Real corsets comes in different shapes. You have the classic Hourglass shape which will put pressure on your ribcage (if you have a wide lower ribcage), and not your lungs. Then you have the Cupped corset which is sitting on top of your ribcage but have the cinched in area at the waist only (which will relieve any pressure on your ribs). 3: the satin lacing is usually a sign of a fashion corset. Most proper ones have a woven more rope like type of lace. They usually cost anything from 90$ and up. Entertaining and full of positive vibes. Love your videos. I do back the comments saying you should try on proper corsets. Your mind will. Be. Blown.

Okay but whoever tied those corsets should have watched a tutorial beforehand.. the reason the lacing doubles on the same side in the middle is so you can cinch from the middle, and get it as tight as possible from the top and bottom and really accentuate an hourglass figure🤦🏻‍♂️ Edit: SO happy they actually addressed that!

You should be able to breathe in a properly fitting and tightened corset. I have several that I enjoy in casual wear, that never restrict my breathing.

Edit: commented before finishing the video and realize you guys figured it out 😅 Just one note, a safe corset tightening method is the have it lace towards yous waist rather than the end of the laces being at the bottom. Likely came laced wrong, but something to know for safest and most comfortable corset wearing :)

The last corsets are my favorites. If someone got the rose/champagne one in black, the leather pants would look great. With this color, I'd go with Drew's jeans shade of wash and a velvet/velvetine wine or berry blazer. For the flowery crop, I'd go with a short billowy, layered sheer skirt in black, to match the back, or dark green to let the flower colors pop.

So 1) if a corset is too tight you run the risk of not being able to breathe, 2) you guys are perpetuating the Victorian myth that corsets are bad and that they are torture devices, 3) Jackie, the reason why you hated wearing that corset at your job was that it probably wasn't made to your specific measurements, and 4) you don't need to tight-lace, corsets are not meant to cinch your waist, they are meant to support your back and boobs.

Downvoted for perpetuating harmful corset myths. You should be able to breathe. You should be comfortable. You shouldn’t wear it against your bare skin. You should get one made to your size so that it fits YOUR ribs and waist length and doesn’t impede breathing or pinch you anywhere to cause pain. If you’re going to wear a corset, don’t be cheap and buy off the rack. It won’t fit you. And don’t support Amazon. What people do with their bodies becomes everybody’s business when it has negative social consequences, like smoking, drugs, the anorexia movement, self-harm, and now we have these videos perpetuating that feeling breathless is normal for a corset, not that the movie industry hasn’t done its fair share of harm. Even if we ignore the personal harm, buying a cheap ill fitting one from Amazon contributes to poor working conditions and unliveable wages. There are things that people need and can’t always buy ethically because they can’t afford to, like work/everyday clothes, shoes, etc… but a corset doesn’t fall under that category. It’s not a need. If a corset is something you really want but can’t afford ethically, you can learn to sew your own with zip ties. Perhaps after making one, you can understand why a $50 corset off of Amazon is exploiting labour, where most of that cost is eaten up by the materials and shipping, leaving the worker paid almost nothing.
