Autumn brings in the whiting and hopefully the Bass are following too.
In this video I use whiting as live bait for Bass using a treble hook and have success fishing close in to a shingle bank.
Sea fishing on a shingle bank that leads on to sand we catch some whitting and use them to tempt a bass.
I use my favoured live bait rig for bass • the simple most effect... .

Bit of food for thought for live baiting. I fish a normal paternoster style trace, small hook or hooks, with a bead above the swivel. While this is fishing I use a dedicated live bait rod to catch a wriggler. When the bait is caught I hook it onto a relatively short trace with a snap clip at the other end which is clipped onto the main line so it runs freely. The bead above the swivel stops tangles and the live bait trace is too short to tangle with the paternoster. When clipped on the bait can only swim down the line and does not suffer from being cast. Works a treat, just ignore the little fish hooked on the paternoster, they are for attraction, and wait for the rod to double over.

@SaltwaterAngler
@SaltwaterAngler Жыл бұрын
I’d be tempted to not spin it at all, under a float or free lined and controlled nicely in a good current. You can belly hook them and have the line coming out the head. We used to use them live off Shaldon bridge to good effect. I’ve only had success with frozen when float fishing for pollack

11 inches for livebait as well. A stinger could be useful where you have a baited small hook for them and a bigger hook so the bass eats the hooked fish

A bass can travel at 15 feet per second therefore if Whiting are prolific and your catching them what do you think the odds are of them taking your whiting
@SaltwaterAngler
@SaltwaterAngler 3 жыл бұрын
Ive often thought about that , the angler has two advantages though they can position the bait in a good ambush point (such as the wave backwash , in holes ect. The other thing is our whiting will be slower than the others around it.

Lightness and feel although smaller continental size rods are close. Something capable of casting 3oz will be a good choice for bait fishing. I used to use my old flatty fanatic as a bass rod but their old now! I recommend bass rods to fill the gap between surf/beach casters use mine a lot

Get one ! If you want something light and easy to cast. The quality is excellent and the new akios ones will be fine. Tony kirage recommends them so that’s 100 percent for me. I think it’s the way to go .The only caveat is if your fishing deep rock marks winching up fish from height or huge current and big fish then stick to traditional rods.
